Good CVD suggestions?
I have been breaking CVD's like crazy. Anybody know of some good CVD's that cost around $60? My MMM and CC Neu on 5s is way too much for cheap Ebay CVD's. If anybody has suggestion please post a comment. Thanks :mdr:

Whats better MIP or Traxxas? Traxxas ones seem better for bashing, but im still kinda lost i dont want to waist my money on carp.

I use UE CVDs on mine and I still have to break any granted I'm running 6S. What suspension are you using?
|
|
Where can you get UE from though? I know UE is the best but i have yet to come across some CVD's. I am using the stock suspention with different shocks right now.
|
TRX CVDs I haven't had one fail me yet they wear slowly also. Mine have over 20 hours on them under 4s paired with a 2200kv MMM combo on a 11.5 pound Maxx.
|
Sweet thats what i was waiting to hear! Thanks so TRX 1, MIP 0
|
Lito (george16) is right UE reigns supreme but that likely is neither here nor there. MIPs pins fell out every run when I used to own them.
|
I'm going to most likely go with Traxxas. Sounds like its the second best (UE being the best) for now. I dont think i could put up with losing pins when i drive. Traxxas 2 MIP -1
|
About the MIP pins falling out: I'm not sure how they are built compared to 8th scale CVDs, but you can grind a shallow flat spot on the pin where the set screw pushes against. So, even if the screw loosens a tad, the pin will be more apt to stay in place.

Proper assembly goes a long way to making cvds work and last. Dry film lube is also a must.
I only have a few mip cvds, but they seem to be pretty good. Sometimes they use std hardware. Much better than the cheapo ebay cvds. I have a feeling either the traxxas or mip will do well. On a side note my buddy has had a few issues with axial ax10 cvds from mip. The customer service has been great from him and they even sent him spares at no cost... Not sure if traxxas can beat that? |
Heat shrink over the cvd will prevent pin from sliding out also.
If your breaking CVD's constantly maybe consider adjusting slipper clutch to actually slip ? |
I think he means to say that hes breaking the stock 3.3 sliders not true CVDs. Still perhaps a better slipper setup is needed. Great advice James.
|
I am actualy running metal CVD's and i cant ajust my slipper because then i destroy spur grears. Does any company still make 3906 slipper kits? Links? My slipper is as tight as it goes because of the spur grears melting.
|
After reading I have an excellent idea for you! Ditch the 3906 slipper and do the mod to run a 3905 slipper!!! It's not that hard, costs about $30 in parts and a little time. If you search there are threads in here explaining how to do it. I did the mod on my first project, a G2R revo that used a 3906 tranny, because I to melted the spur which resluted in a snapped motor shaft!!!
After getting the proper slipper in there even the plastic shafts hold up well. When I do wear one out or break one I keep it cause they break in different places and I have made spare shafts out of broken ones. |
Robison Racing - check on tower for their slipper kit. Worked well for me. Also, there is a conversion you can do to run a Revo spec slipper (the new slipper set up). I dont know where the thread is - might be in the brushless section. Requires a bit of work to do it though.

Ah. Robinsonracing.com I've had mine since I've had brushless. Years now. Its never really failed me. One time I had a screw back out and get caught in the mesh even with running the plasitc spur which I reccomend. Any way I bought a new screw put a tiny amount of lock tight on just that one and never had a problem from any of them. I wanted for the longest time to go to the strobe sprong slipper but my RRP slipper never failed so thats what I continue to use. |
I have a set of Strobe slipper kit for a 3906 tranny.

I killed cvds too. It was in my e-revo with a mamba monster 2200 on 4s. The only ones that held up were traxxas. I even killed the $130 mip ones(and they didnt warrenty them even though they admited 2 wernt even heat treated and they said they would warrenty them). They wore out fast(I bought rebuild kits and went threw then every few weeks. Then they snaped in half. I also snapped the vantage racing cvds(on the first run and they didnt warrenty them either after they said they would)
So I would have to say go with the traxxas ones |
I recently got a Revo that i converted to brushless. I pretty much scraped my Maxx cause i don't really need it anymore. Thanks for your inputs though:mdr: If i ever break the driveshafts in it I am going to get Traxxas ones.
