Need Motor and ESC for E-Maxx

I am looking for some ideas for a motor and esc for my custom e-maxx. I don’t know the weight of it yet because I am still assembling it, but here is a list of what I have so far:

UE
8 Spyder Diff. Gear Sets
6mm Axle Steel CVD’s
Titanium Center Driveshafts
Racer X Pro Suspension Kit with Setback Arms
Racer X Supershock Kit
Titanium Pillowballs

G-Maxx
Alum. Chassis
Chassis Ext.
Single Speed Conversion

FLM Hybrid Bulks

Pro-Line Maxx Road Rage Tires

RPM Monster Clawz StableMaxx Wheels

Robison Racing Slipper Clutch (because no one has the Strobe slipper in stock)

I am looking at the MGM Compro 160amp 24 cell controller but have no clue about what motor. For batteries I am looking at LiPo’s, either 2s2p 7.4V & 3s2p 11.1V combo (18.5V total) or 2 3s2p 11.1V combo ( 22.2V total) 8000mah, 96amp con. and 128amp burst. Any suggestion would be appreciated

I would say that you should wait and get the strobe slipper.

What kind of speed are you looking at getting?

coolhandcountry 03.13.2006 03:06 PM

For a 6s lipo (2 x 3s)set up I would go 9xl. Unless you like a higher quality motor i would say a 1950 8T.

Tazz 03.13.2006 03:25 PM

I shouldn't need to go any faster than 40mph even if I race it.

boss 302 03.13.2006 03:40 PM

i would go with the 1950 8 turn if you have the money.

HotnCold 03.13.2006 04:05 PM

or 1940 if you wanna get a little more run time - and Welcome to the forums..

Tazz 03.14.2006 09:01 AM

I would prefer the higher quality motor. HotnCold you mentioned a 1940 motor, is that an 8 turn ?
What kind of gearing would be a good starting point and what size shaft is on the 1940 motors ?

coolhandcountry 03.14.2006 12:56 PM

1940 has a 4mm shaft. A 8 turn or 9 turn would work in the 1940.

Tazz 03.14.2006 01:05 PM

Coolhandcontry are you certain about the shaft size, because I just found their web site and it says that 19 series motors have 3.17mm shaft diameters.

coolhandcountry 03.14.2006 04:54 PM

You can get them with the 1/8 inch shaft. The 1940 and 30 has 4 mm. The 1950 has a 5mm shaft.

boss 302 03.14.2006 04:56 PM

if i was you i would go with the 1950

Reason being.....is cause we all can't get enough POWAHHH!!:005: Or at least I can't wait to upgrade my motor again, but my checkbok can :035:

Tazz 03.15.2006 12:26 PM

What kind of gearing would I need if I went with a 1950 8T and what would the run time be (I know there are a lot of variables to run time but I am just looking for an idea). What would be the differance in run time be between the 1950 8T and 1940 8T?

Questions, questions and more questions!!

boss 302 03.15.2006 03:18 PM

A 1950 would have more torque and run cooler

coolhandcountry 03.15.2006 04:49 PM

If you run 2x 3s lipo wit hthe 8000mah. A 1950 8t would run you about an hour. The 7t would be great motor as well. I run my 1950 on 20cells and it is a blast. I get 25-30 min on a ib 3800 20 cells. 18 51 mod1 gearing with the strobe is a great starting point and should be about right for gearing. Your lipos are lighter than the nimhs.

steve050773 03.16.2006 08:57 AM

Hey guys - I have a similar setup as above, but I plan on running nothing more than 14 cells nimhs (ib3800 and up). I also have the strobe slipper & sprong setup on its way. What motor & pinion do you think I should use? Mike recommended the 1940 6 or 7 turn with 18 51 gearing, but I'm concerned about the lack of pinion availability. Is there a motor that would work well with 14 51 gearing?

Tazz 03.16.2006 09:30 AM

steve050773 were are you getting the strobe slipper from? Every place that I check that should have them they have been out of stock for a while.

Tazz 03.23.2006 08:25 AM

Thanks for the help guys. I placed my order last night but mike was out of the 1950/8 so I went with a 1950/7. Would the gearing for the 7T be the same as the 8T (18/51)?

coolhandcountry 03.23.2006 11:33 AM

I would drop back a couple for the 7. Try a 16 51 for it.
