HB lighting PRO brushless makeover;
On this picture you can see the problem of the lighting; The centerdiff is off center. To hold the batteriepacks in balance i decided to reposition the diff to the center of the frame
<img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/1.jpg" width="640" height="480"> PURPLE?!?!?!? Used caustic soda to get rid of it.. <img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/2.jpg" width="640" height="480"> Little bit of elbowgrease and some polish later. <img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/3.jpg" width="640" height="480"> Motorplate, from 4 mm thick aluminum <img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/4.jpg" width="640" height="480"> In the middle.. where it belongs... ;) <img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/5.jpg" width="640" height="480"> <img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/6.jpg" width="640" height="480"> Here is the center repositioning device (CRD ©®) <img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/7.jpg" width="640" height="480"> And a nice support for the motor, to keep the motorplate from bending. |
GREAT SERUM!
I can't wait to drive it! |
looking good! I was thinking of a similar solution to the off center center diff.
|
Works like a charm..
I am going to make a fourth mounting hole in it. If you don't reposition that thing, you aren't able to position the batteries perfect. |
Yes, I know this! I had the same problem with mine. I haven't had the time to work on it in a couple weeks, but I was considereing the smae template to move the diff towards the center.
|
That is beautiful. If only I didnt my my tickets to hawaii.
Mike, ygm. |
Boy, it must be convenient to be able to fab your own parts when you need to! That's a nice conversion job.
One question, though -- what is that silver tape for? |
I used the tape to align the centerdiff.
|
Nice work. The CDR looks like a happy face :L:
|
What chassis and center diff is that? I've heard of people using a ofna center also but don't know what model they are from..
patch |
It is from the HB lighting pro.
And true, i am also going to build an emaxx centerdiff with an Ofna diff. Read the 2240 thread by Promod in the brushless section. |
Found it, Thanks!
1 more question....it doens't say how you would make the brakes work. What channel would you use on the receiver. patch |
I am going to use a Y cable on the gas/brake channel. As simple as that.. ;)
|
Update;
Well.... I haven’t figured out if i am going to use this things... Took me a lot of time making them, but they don't convince me... I got the material from a person I know. I didn't understand why it was so freaking hard to work on.. Appeared that it was used to make a Audi A8 bulletproof.......... Wish he told me before.. :D
<img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/8.jpg" width="640" height="480"> The subtle motorbrace to be.. <img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/9.jpg" width="640" height="480"> This took some work, it's the servo-holder, i needed to cut some of the nylon to make the driveshaft fit nicely. <img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/10.jpg" width="640" height="480"> And here is the new Battery Carrying Device (BCD ©) the battery is held on the aluminum plate with Velcro and a few tie-wraps The black things on the front are bumpers, that keep the batteries in place with frontal crashes. In front of the long aluminum bars, you can seen the black parts i was mentioning. Those where a PITA to work on.. |
Careful using those Audi parts, you don't want your car to suddenly move forwards or backwards without any warning! ;)
|
Real nice work rene, if you are further in the progress keep everybody updated with the nice pics you make!
|
Looks great! :) Keep up the good work.
|
Why o WHY can't brushless controller manufacturers make a nice and good looking thing to hold the controller in place? All the highpower brushless controllers (16 cells and up) are build in a plastic bag (heatshrink) .. You need zip ties to hold these things to the chassis.. That is not the most clean solution in my opinion.
<img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/11.jpg" width="640" height="480"> Again; <img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/12.jpg" width="640" height="480"> And to be able to do some programmin; <img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/13.jpg" width="640" height="480"> |
The servo tray looks very clean. I like that you threaded the screw holes on it. I think I will do the same for the one I designed for my Hyper 7.
|
Batterieholders..
With electronics;
<img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/14.jpg" width="640" height="480"> <img border="5" src="http://rc.stuurmijmail.nl/lightning/15.jpg" width="640" height="480"> |
I can't see the pictures for some reason.
|
They were there earlier. I did see them before but now I can't either.
|
Weird..
I had this earlier.. Always in the weekends.. I guess my providers bandwith isn't what it needs to be.. |
So we may see them again after the weekend?
|
They were there earlier today.
|
lttl updt..

Thats coming along beatifully....your making me want one after I talked myself out of a revo...lol.
|
This is shaping up to be one h*** of a conversion! Very nice work, Rene.
|
Very cool - I think I will make one of those holders myself. THANKS for posting.
|
Well Thank you Mike!
I think i might finish her within a few days.. It is a fun project to do so farr! I was also thinking about an Revo to Eevo conversion, but it would be a light setup, on 12 or 14 cells.. i haven't heard much on the stock drivetrain on the revo though... But i guess it would stand a mild brushless setup.. |
I have been toying with the Revo conversion for quite some time. I think the drivetrain on the revo is pretty tough, but I carry the revo diff cups and CVDS in case it isn't! Dafni has a nice Revo conversion project in the works on this forum.
|
This conversion has to be the cleanest I've seen yet. Great work!
|
Ready to rumble...

That is a clean conversion. It looks like it came that way. Excellent work Serum.

Nice work, rene. Very nice.
|
Serum, I'm very impressed with the conversion you did on the Lightning Pro, any chance you'd have some extra pieces left over to sell as a conversion kit.
|
Any idea what the weight is?
patch |
It's 5020 gram. (darn metric guys... ;)... )
including all, 16 cells, body, wheels etc. |
11.2 pounds. Beefy!
