Slash 4x4 Thread

Got my Slash 4x4 via brown pants man.So I have a extra Neu motor its a 1515/1.5D/FB.Highest KV motor I have its 2700KV.The ESC is for sale allready and I have a MMM plus TRX hold down I am lookin at.Gonna start with 3s?What do you guys think. The Slash 4x4 has been realy picked to death on some other forums. We shall see:party:Where can I get the receiver box that is used with the MMM combo. It is mounted at the front of the chassis.

Overdriven 02.10.2010 09:58 PM

Traxxas shows a stampede rx box being used with the mmm on their site.

Bondonutz 02.10.2010 10:32 PM

You have to change the RX box when installing a M.M.M. ESC ???

Guess I better order one then, My 4X4 Slash will not be shipping till the 11th.

PhatMonk, that combo sounds great. I'm doing almost the same thing, Castle combo w/2650 w/3s 40C Zippys.

phatmonk 02.11.2010 05:02 PM

Yea you gotta love those Zippies/Turnegy lipos

reno911 02.11.2010 05:33 PM

I have raced with the out of box 4x4 and it holds up great. A 4x4 took first in the SC open class last race, wasn't me but nice to know. No one is putting anything huge in it yet but I might try it with the 2650 and the mmm since my caster is dead, next race. Might need some better shocks then. I have seen many on the Traxxas forum using losi 8ight shocks with great results. Might have to pick up a set of those as well.

t-maxxracer32 02.11.2010 06:32 PM

ive ran mine hard with no breaks yet. When i say hard i dont mean pushing the engine and drivetrain.. i mean launching, flipping, rolling, etc. it is one tough truck.

the body is pretty beat but other than that its all good!

and ya maybe some new shocks would do it some good.

Are you running the stock ESC?Will the TRX ESC run a Neu 1512?I know the Neu is a 4 pole motor and the TRX motor is 2 pole?

bruce750i 02.12.2010 01:55 PM

I've had a Medusa 4800kv 4-pole hooked up and it would pulse and surge with no load. Medusa 650kv 4-pole ran smooth with no load. Maybe I was hitting a rev limit with the 4800?

Shark413 02.15.2010 11:25 PM

Dyed mine black, running a Mamba Max, TeknoNeu 1509 1.5Y on 3s.

6s ? Wow, I'll bet that thing is crazy fun to drive !

bruce750i 02.16.2010 11:39 AM

Nice Rhinos Ravin!

I have been testing a 6s setup as well, with a 50mm 17??kv motor and 6s 1550. It puts me around the stock vxl rpms.

Bondonutz, the 1509 is great, plenty of power and it runs ice cold. Yeah it is probably overpowered for the track and I can't officially race it using 3s but it sure is fun. I have been running powerful 1/8's for a while so I guess I am used to it, so no problem controlling the Slash. For racing I use my Jammin SCRT10 Novak HV 4.5 on 2s, it's much slower but it handles a little better than the Slash so it evens out.

Very Nice !
I'm not 100% yet but I'm either going w/the 2650 Castle or scoop a Tekno Neu 1512 somthing ?

phatmonk 02.16.2010 04:57 PM

I think the Neu 1512 1.5D would be perfect.Especialy since they are on sale on the Neu website.Run it on 4s and look out.Overkill yes.Wont ever run hot though.

Yeah, I have a 1512 3D/1700 I was going to install w/4s but decided it might better suited to my 1/8 buggy. I want to stick w/3s to keep it a little lighter. I just ordered (3) 3s 40C's from Hobby CIty for 48.00 each. Can't beat that !

phatmonk 02.16.2010 06:34 PM

Something to remember is you will need to run atleast a 18t pinion when running a finned can Neu motor.

For a proper gear mesh I assume due to extra diameter of finnage ?

phatmonk 02.17.2010 04:57 PM

Thats correct Bondonutz. The fins prevent the use of a smaller pinion.

ravin 02.17.2010 07:30 PM

I'm running a Tekin 4030 1400kv the specs look a tad bigger than the castle 2650 motor and I have run a 14/54 with no problems.

phatmonk 02.17.2010 07:35 PM

Yea thats fine but I have a Neu 1515 in my 4x4 slash and its imposible to move the motor over towards the center with a smaller pinion.18t is the smallest I can use in mine.My Finned Neu motor is 1.73 inches in diameter the Tekin is 1.65 inches

fatkidjoey 02.17.2010 07:42 PM

just got my 4x4 and dieing to put my MMP and a 2200kv in it , what kinda pinon is it ? its not mod 1 right ? and where can i get the 4s batt tie down ? anyone know ?

The pinion is 32p/.8 pitch 5mm bore for a CC 2200.RCM has them forsale.I had a extra from my E Revo I am using on my Neu 1515 1.5D/F

erevo15151y 02.17.2010 08:34 PM

Hey guys i run a neu1512 1.5d/f in a 1/8 scale buggy, and have a spare motor and mamba monster and a mamba max pro, just got a 4x4 slash, you guys say the neu 1512 1.5 d/f is a direct fit in a 4x4 slash???? If so do i need a special pinion??? Would i need a metal spur?? God i couldnt imagine a slash,my buggy is stupid fast on 4s,,thanks for the help,,ill try to work on it tonight,

Should bolt right up to the motor plate, you'll need a 5mm bore mod.8/32 pitch pinion of course.
Gear accordingly;

Did you want to know about the rx box or the esc?:na:

kazuaki 02.17.2010 11:28 PM

I ran my Slash 4x4 (MMM/2650/4s) in the sand dunes this weekend. It was a blast for a while. But the rear paddles and possibly too tight slipper destroyed my rear half shafts. I need something that will hold up better. The Losi 8ight shocks worked awesome though!!

I installed the Rustler/Stampede RX box and didn't like it. As you can see from my pics, I'm running naked now :gasp:

Man, I don't care how tight your slipper is, if you're running in sand and snap axles your axles are weak. I hate slippers and I hate weak drivetrains. Poopy deal.

http://www.nuibe.com/rc/slash4x4/rear_half_shaft.jpg

Just out of curiosity; are you running the center diff in there? Because running a solid center with dissimilar diameter tires can place a lot of stress on the drivetrain in general. But that's probably not why the rear shaft snapped; that's probably caused by the greater traction of those paddles. CVDs would help that a lot. I've never been a fan of the smaller slider shafts; they are just too weak to handle serious power IMO.

erevo15151y 02.18.2010 06:58 PM

pinion is mod 8 pitch 32,what is a good cool running gear ratio/ i have a 18t on there now stock spur,1512 1.5d thanks,..
