Neu motor heat up fast?

I have a neu 1515/3d was ok from the last race. Today tested the motor it did not even leave the pit n it was 158 fahren.

I check the drag brakes n binding it zero n ok. Diff is ok. So what's wrong? Motor?

superek4 02.18.2010 08:05 AM

Anyone?

bdebde 02.18.2010 09:35 AM

Sounds like the motor is de-magnetized.

Can't be, the motor has never been overheated n a de-magnetized motor clogged alot.

I am thinking izzit the esc or the motor.

bdebde 02.18.2010 10:51 AM

was it with no load on the motor? they can heat up quick running without a load.

Shorted......I have gone through this already. Feels like it has a drag brake on right??? That is the symptom....

rootar 02.18.2010 11:15 AM

yup it shorted check your leads right at the can of the motor.

It's with load.

superek4 02.18.2010 12:06 PM

If it's shorted what can I do?

What's_nitro? 02.18.2010 12:16 PM

By "never left the pit" do you mean you were running it on a stand? That counts as a "no load" situation, or at least "not enough load". It's the same scenario as motor heat from too much tire spin. Take it out to the track and if it's still getting too hot then I guess contact Neu about warranty service.

It went out to the front part of the track but heated up before I even go further.

there is nothing you can do with a shorted motor. either one of the leads has rubbed through on the can or broke internally... if neu dont warranty it you can pull the rotor and save it incase you come across a good can, or you can use it for a nice fridge magnet.

superek4 02.18.2010 08:57 PM

Can I open the motor myself? Will it be costly to repair it? I change to tekin n test it ok. So it's my neu that has problems.

What's the email address of neu? I tried to email them but no reply.

fastbaja5b 02.18.2010 09:22 PM

Start saving for a new (neu) motor.

superek4 02.18.2010 09:32 PM

What??? That's bad if neu is designed this way? The wires will come lose one day. Then I rather get a CC neu or tekin no wire problems n cheaper!

What's_nitro? 02.18.2010 11:32 PM

Hey if they'll warranty it for nothing then you might as well have them fix it.

superek4 02.18.2010 11:38 PM

I think it out of warranty

What's_nitro? 02.18.2010 11:46 PM

Are the wires shorted internally, or are they rubbing where they exit the motor can? If they are rubbing where they exit the can maybe you can fit a grommet in there to keep them from shorting anymore. Even a piece of balsa wood would work. It might be a temporary fix but it should make the motor usable until you can buy a replacement.

superek4 02.19.2010 12:14 AM

What's the cost of repair? Can I open up the motor n check?

phildogg 02.19.2010 11:27 AM

I think the repair cost is 1/2 price of the motor. I might be mistaken though.

the cost of the repair I believe is 80 dollars I am not sure if that was if its under warranty or without it

Joe Ford 03.02.2010 12:16 AM

Definitely sounds like a short in the motor. Do not open the motor though. Send it directly to NeuMotors. Here is their repair information. repairs@neutronics.com

They can let you know an exact price, and all other pertinent information on getting it repaired.

jsr 03.02.2010 11:08 PM

Yup, shorted motor. I've had that happen. Mine (not Neus) were shorted internally. Stop running it or it may take your ESC with it.
