Need opinion deciding on BL Lehner 1950
I am going to upgrade my 1/8 buggy BL system.
It was a Hacker Master Comp ESC with Feigao 9L on 12 cells Up Grading too.. -BK Warrior 12020 esc -UBEC -Lehner 1950 BL I want to run 14 to 16 cells and go to li-poly in the future. I'm thinking Lehner 1950 5turn. Need some input guys.... I have the ESC/UBEC already can't seem too decided on motor turn.. |
Have you considered a 1940? IMO the 1950 is too much for a 1/8 buggy, and even the 1940 would be more than powerful enough. I looked on BK's site, and found that the 1940 8t would probably work best for 14 and 16 cells on a 1/8 buggy. It has a kv of 1959.
|
A 1950/5 would easily destroy your 12020 esc. Go for a 1940 like Metal Man said.
|
1940 is more than enough for the 1/8 buggy, but Dafni seem pretty happy with his 1950!

1950
The reason I wanted to go with the Lehner 1950 is the 5mm shaft.
I asked Mike about it and he reccommended the Lehner 1950 6 turn and the BK 12020 esc is fine.. I am just looking for KraZy power, torque, and speed.. The set-up I have now it is Quick 9L on 12 cells geared at 16/46.. Just need to know peoples opinions because you guys know alot. Any more suggestions. I am open to it.. I Just want to make the right choice. |
Yeah, Mike is right, I love the 1950 on my MBX5! I drove it today, and it was awesome.
I have a 6 turn in it, and run it on 14 cells. Temps are awesome, and so is speed and torque. I only wish I had a 120 or 150 amp controller for it. Just to be on a safer side. The 99apm warrior gets warm, but not hot, though. When the weather gets warmer, I`ll run it on 5S. But I also agree with mike, a 1940 would be more than enough already. |
1950 Dafni
Dafni,
Man I was just going to PM you about the 1950 motor. So what do you gear it at? How many cells you running. |
I wish i could put a picture of my BL buggy on here but, it says my file is to big.
|
My Buggy has 12\40 diffs front\rear. And I run a 51t in the center. On 14 cells, with the 1950\6 you can use either a 14, 15 or a 16t pinion without worries. I ran the 15t all weekend, and speed is fine. Runtime and temps too. Altough for a marathon 1 hour a-main I would use the 14.
Yeah, would love to see a pic! Check www.photobucket.com Or you resize it, if you want to use the "attach" button. |

Is that you in the backround?
|
Dafni,
Nice Video, How is it when you are racing with the Nitro's. |
Hi, Dafni I did not know you looked so ''goofy'' LOL. Nice video and buggy.
|
dafni thats a nice vid and buggy
|
Yeah, that's one hell of a buggy..
And Daniel is one hell of a guy too.. You think you look goofy on that pic Daniel? i thought it was meant to look blurry... :p Look at the front right shock, perhaps that is the reason for its binding, looks like the shock is bent. |
Yes, that's me on the pic, indeed. Standing on renes staircase.
The vid is also in Holland. Now I'm back home in Switzerland. The driver in the vid is my friend Marc, who's an experienced nitro buggy driver. Romster, I never had it on a track against nitros, but Marc says it is as fast as his OS.21 buggy (and I had the throttle on 80%). Yes, Serum, I bent a shock shaft. I think it happened when I wedged it under this beam on the far end of the spot in the video. A bend shock shaft is not bad, considering the beating it took. |
Maybe you should let your friend marc race it one time to see how it compares out. You may be able to convince him to go brushless on his buggy. You could sell him a mount for it. ;)
|
yeah if it is as fast as his buggy there shouldnt be any problems with him racing yours.
|
So here on this forum who owns a Lehner 1950?
-What Turn is your 1950 motor? -What Esc are you using? -Do I have to worry about heat issues, Esc and motor... |

Last summer I was in Sweden for two weeks, and Marc and me spent every free minute on tracks. I brought the Revoxx, and we were exchanging transmitters all day long. Marc is like the brother I never had to me. Yes, Boss, he can drive. I let him drive my stuff without the least worry. Romster, e-mail sent :) |
I have a 1950 8t hi amp. I run it on a 9920 with no heat problems. I run from 14 to 20 cells as well. Depends on the tires i have. I run from a 14 - 20 tooth pinion with 51 tooth spur.
|
So if I use the BK 12020 Esc and a 1950 6 turn gear at 18t or 20t pinion on 14 to 16 cells. Should I be fine?
|
You have a 44t or 47t spur, right? I would start with a 14t pinion.
|
I am using at the moment a 46T spur center gear. I could also gear up to a 53T spur gear.
|
Coolhandcountry What are you using for a motor mount for Lehner 1950?
I have one of GriffinRu motor mounts and I am not sure if it will fit. Need to find a motor mount before I purchase 1950 motor. |
The 1950 fits a standard 540 motor mount,so if it works with your 9L it should fit.
|
I heard on the Lehner 1950 the Bearing my be too big to fit thru the motor mount. I am sure the mounting screww holes will fit correctly. But not too sure about the bearing part of motor.
|
I mean, 1950 bearing may be too big to fit thru motor mount. But I am not sure. I have not really seen the shaft side of a Lehner 1950.
|
Err,drill?:005:
Sorry, the bearing's only about 10mm,can't remember exactly, and extends about 1mm,just run a drill through it if it's too small. |
I like to thank everyone on this thread for helping me decide. I really appreciate it guys........
I am going to get the 1950 6turn...OOOYeah!!! can't wait.... thanks again Guys...:018: :027: |
Daf that buggy sounds tough! :028: It's pretty quick too!:027:
