2200kv MMM on 6s... I've ordered a Slipperential so can't wait to fit that into it. :D

and yessss I have now belted my tyres, it was a lot fun driving something out of Looney Toons but time to get serious now.
:mdr:

Looks like you had a crazy time ...anything broken?
What does the Slipperential do ?

Nick 02.23.2010 10:22 AM

Only thing that broke was the center diff, the spyder gears drilled themselves into the plastic endcap.

Slipperential = Slipper Differential. Has like an adjustable slipper clutch on. There's lots of info on it in the RCM store. :)

There's a whole section of the forum devoted to it.

Any photos of that damage? I'm new to the RC8 and eager to learn what to watch out for...thanks for the info!!!

Nick 02.23.2010 01:03 PM

You can see here, top right is my diff like new for comparison.

I've got a 20page thread on another forum of me building, tweaking it and general discussion on improvements here:

No anywhere selling aluminum or alloy end cases for the RC8 diffs?

E-Revonut 02.23.2010 01:13 PM

Did you have any diff fluid in there? The front tires where huge and your pic of the diff looks like it's bone dry. If your just gonna bash with it then some 30k or higher silicone diff fluid will help control the power distribution and keep things lubricated so you don't destroy the diff. If you plan on racing then something between 10k and 30k will be better suited. I ran 10k in mine for racing and mixed 10k and 50k for bashing. I only ran 5s and it was on a lower kv motor but I never had any issues with the diffs

Haven't looked, there's really no need for them when things are lubricated

Nick 02.23.2010 03:19 PM

Yes it was well oiled, it's dry because I cleaned it out, with all the shreds of plastic!

You can get alu cases for the diff.

swiftneed 02.23.2010 07:20 PM

Now thats the way to enjoy the ride putting it together an effort : bashing it effortless lol

suicideneil 02.23.2010 07:38 PM

It really does look like a loonytoons car in some of the pics- all the tyres a different size and angle... :mdr:

plettenbergs 02.23.2010 07:39 PM

great pics...a wing makes a GREAT wheelie bar!!

magman 02.23.2010 07:47 PM

By chance did you tape the inside of your tires?

I think your power is unloading a bit to the front wheels....

Nick 02.28.2010 03:01 PM

First run with the Slipper today and makes a hell of a difference! Works great.

Sadly, day didn't end too well...

I need a new chassis, do the nitro RC8T ones work with the RC8Te stuff? I can't imagine they'd make 2 different ones.

What's the difference between these 2?

E-Revonut 02.28.2010 03:35 PM

Honestly? What the F*** did you do? I have launched mine and made a quad out of a double double on the track and not done anything other than tweak the rear chassis brace. That jump sent me about 25' up and flew for about 50'. I would suggest getting Mike's chassis, last I checked it's cheaper than a stock one. Look at the kit and select no motor mount which puts it at like $85 I think, you'll get a battery tray to use with it and the rest of your stuff will bolt up.

Nick 02.28.2010 03:53 PM

I'll have a video up soon of what happaned, it isn't pretty.

I need the chassis before the weekend so can't order internationally. Will all my electric stuff from a RC8Te fit on the nitro RC8T chassis?

thzero 02.28.2010 05:01 PM

Yes, the part # is exactly the same. RC8Te is just a packaged nitro car (without the nitro parts, i.e. brakes, etc.) with the conversion kit. I've got the nitro that I used the conversion kit on.

Nick 02.28.2010 05:35 PM

Cheers, I'll fork out for one then.

Here's some pics, before it blew to pieces. The tyres are belted by the way, this was running the Slipperential on 20/46 gearing.

Ouch I changed my mind on the 6s after seeing this Man Nick It hurts more than it looks shoot dont mind bashing but this just ends it

thzero 02.28.2010 10:08 PM

He's also running a really high gear ratio; 2.3. RC8Te and conversion come with a 50/15 (or 16 I forget which) for a 3.3. I'm going up from 4S to 5S or 6S because I want to gear down to help keep the motor running cooler.

e-rev project 02.28.2010 10:24 PM

the rc8te chassis is stamped alum, unlike mikes, and team factory which is milled aluminum

Nick 03.03.2010 12:17 PM

I run 4s to start with
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Slm_XHptBu4

Then I come back about 1:35 and do 6s.... the air just gets under the RC8 and flips it.

Need to lower front, take rear wing off and some stiffer springs next time.

54mph into Baja = Death. :(

DwightSchrute 03.03.2010 12:55 PM

wow......that's impressive. those baja's are like brick walls. i think i'm gonna get a factory 8 chassis today and hang up the TE stamped i've got.. :gasp: :surprised:

suicideneil 03.03.2010 06:24 PM

Pretty nasty carnage, but atleast the electronics were alright I suppose- if those guys had been 10feet further back then it might just have slid along the pavement and glanced off that fence, rather than doing an inverted emergency stop and snapping.

All good fun though

riverat1540 03.05.2010 05:17 PM

I like the guy getting plowed at the end, that had to hurt!
