Do people still need lipo repairs?

Judging demand here, I have been dabbling with batteries for a while and got most of the things down pack. Can ad or remove cells, Solder to the aluminum tabs etc.

I have a Zippy 4S that needs a puffed cell removed. I wont have any use for it afterwards, so I dont really know what I should do with it - so if anyone has a need for a 3S Zippy (4200mah or something like that), we could do some kind of PIF with it....

ive got a turnify 2s that after landing a big jump doesnt work all the time. I can put it in my truck and it will drive for 50 feet and just stop. Think it might be a loose wire. would like to get it fixed

lincpimp 04.18.2010 01:54 PM

Have fun with it Ben. At the peak I was fixing 5-6 a day. Kinda kills your hobby time, but you are still young.

To everyone, I have no idea how good Ben is at fixing packs, but it is not rocket science, and the more you do the better you get! Give him a try.

I've done some repairs also, it's not that difficult with the right solder, flux and a good iron. Only part I have trouble with is making the shrink wrap look decent

brushlessboy16 04.18.2010 05:28 PM

Well thats the problem @ linc. No way im going to be able to o 5 or 6 a day, maybe 2 or 3. Just as a mental note lol.. There are 13 Loose lipo Cells sitting around my room :)

How about repairing a Lipo with a bad balance tap?

It charges fine, no other issues, but the balance tap seems to be disconnected internally. (It's a 5000mah 2S pack)

etc1006 04.18.2010 11:37 PM

I've got a 2s that I melted one of the aluminum tabs right off it in a wreck... Dunno if it's still good or not. And IDK if I screwed the pooch when I took the pack apart or not, I cut the foil some on the other cell (was a hardcase). IDK, if you want to play w/it LMK.

sweetride4me 04.21.2010 10:36 AM

How about fixing a broken one... all cells are fine just the 3rd cell has come disconnected from the rest on the board....

brushlessboy16 04.21.2010 01:32 PM

Yes you can, just click on your username and send yourself a pm, real easy, glad I could help.

After dabbleing w/a few lipos I'm making all the repairs myself. Was scary at first but with caution and common sense it's really not to bad. Steady hands are a must, or Zzzzt & Poof

Shoot me a pm, Are the cell tabs still in tact?

brushlessboy16 06.01.2010 12:20 AM

Fixed a lipo For A member here

2- 3cell lipos, one pack had a bad cell
Made 2 2cell lipos, reomoved PCB Installed 12 ga wire, traxxas connectors and 2s balance taps.

I wasnt in my normal workshop but the finished product was top notch if i do say so myself.. Note the tissue box holding the lipos, and the nail clippers holding the traxxas contact plates, i had to get creative!

Looks great Ben..

brushlessboy16 06.01.2010 08:03 AM

Why thank you

Bondonutz 06.01.2010 08:19 AM

Looks good BB16, Thank for the pics and now I know these cells can be easily seperated. I have a buddys HC 5s I need to remove a cell from to salvage to a 4s pack.

The older packs are directly glued together, adhesive remover or Lighter fluid is needed to break down the adhesive or you will stretch the cell cases. This is a newer one and it has plastic separators between the cells

:lol:No it was a TrueRC 10c purple brick.

suicideneil 06.01.2010 06:50 PM

A solder sucker, or copper braidingis useful- melt the solder then 'extract' it either item to leave as little as possible, ready for new joints to be made. Looking at that picture though it appars nearly half the cells have puffed- I'd say that pak cant be saved, or isnt worth saving given the age/ spec.

_paralyzed_ 06.02.2010 03:22 AM

you continue to impress me with your work. Keep it up!

Just want to say thank you Ben for the lipo service you provided to me. I had 2 3 cells with 1 cell in it going bad. I wanted 2 2 cell packs made. Within a week and a couple days I sent him the packs and he fixed them and sent them back. They came out perfect and just how I asked for them. He is a great guy to deal with and would definitely recommend his services to anyone. Ben, thanks again and I might have a couple more packs for you. Terry

I just saw the lipo repair work post up above. Those look like my packs. Cool man and great solder job.

brushlessboy16 06.05.2010 08:24 AM

No problem Terry, those are your packs. Enjoy
