Has anyone converted a hotbodies lightning stadium pro????

Hello everyone! I was thinking of converting my Lightning stadium pro. It is in excellent shape. Have not Run it in over 2 years. I love converting nitro into brushless. The vehicle is very light. What I like is that it has 3 disc brake set up front and rear. I would like to keep the mechanical brake on this set up. i was thinking of modding Savage flux battery boxes on the sides. I'm a basher not a racer. Any advice or opinions would be Great.

Wow Nice Job on both your Conversions. I like them alot. How fast are they going?? How do you think they compare to today's current Stadium Trucks? MXB5T or MMXB6, losi 8ight RC8?? Thanks for Great photos!!!!!!

nativepaul 04.25.2010 02:06 PM

Yeah many people have, it was one of the most popular conversions a couple of years ago I think mike has all the parts you would need in the RC monster store here.
I converted it's twin the lightning buggy myself, although you might not recognise it now.

The top truck which I still have, is geared for 41mph. I only bash w/it, and a fine basher it is !

The other one I sold was set up for the track and it worked very well but I feel that the LSP isn't as refined as the newer truggys. It doesn't seem to steer and handle as well, maybe in the hands of a lesser driver it wouldn't be as noticable but to me it was.

LSP's are old school - I remember Serum did a sweet one way back. You should do a search on it. It was a huge inspiration for me

Heres some OLD pictures of my BPP LSP from when I bought it. :mdr: It looks quite a bit different now.

Nice Squee! I never did the LSP, but I did the 1/10 version a LONG time ago - here's what it looked like:

Sorry to be off topic - it's just nostalgic

Thanks for all the response!! Everything will be old school. The losi 2.0 will be old school in 3 years. Hey squee, I love the side battery boxes. What were they from? What about the cage? Where is that from? What does it look like now? I have a maxamps 6 cell 5000max lipo I would like to use for this conversion. The castle creations mamba 2200kv is too high right? I would need what a 1700 or under?

Its ALL carbon fiber. The chassis, and the cage. Its a Bombproof Products LSP kit. If I remember right they only made about 20 of them and they were right at $500 just for the chassis setup, then you had the buy the LSP itself. They only made a couple in carbon fiber. I've never seen another as a matter of fact.

So Squee, hoy have the worlds only full carbon LSP and yet

Now its got 8mm axles, buggy 22* knuckles and upper arms, stainless and purple hardware, Dace CRT 23mm hubs, shock socks, aluminum shock ends, yellow high downforce wing, doubled up purple ackermans off a buggy, etc. Thats all I can think of right now, but I'm thinking of changing the shocks up to something adjustable, putting the purple aluminum shock towers on it off a buggy (with the way the center brace is I think I'll have to go with rear shock towers front and rear), 17mm purple hubs, and I've been thinking of going with the newer D8T suspension, along with a redesigned motor mount (and going with a 1717 :mdr:) that'll put it in the center, and getting Mike to make me some new battery trays, maybe in aluminum :mdr:.

Oh, and I went with the buggy front bumper and no rear bumper, put the sway bar back on the rear, and a dark red metallic CRT body with a Upgrade RC graphics kit. I think thats about all the stuff I've done to it.

Well I have a update! I have received my RC-Monster mount Came in lightning time. Happy with that shipping was alot for something that weighs ounces. I have added the brake servo for the mechanical brake. I will post pics when I figure it out. My next question is? I looking for top speed. I saw on ebay A new monster mamba for around 250.00 for the 2200kv set up. Or should I go for a 1600kv to 1700kv. for a 6 cell battery that I currently own. I found a losi xcelorin 2100kv set up for around 225.00.

IMO stay away from the Losi set up...to many probs. on 6s a 1600 motor would do nicely w/a mmm esc. The 2200 motor you mentioned above on 6s would be stupid fast. I had the 2200combo on 5s in my truggy and it was too fast so I went w/the new castle motor...1520 and it is perfect

coolink13 05.08.2010 12:10 PM

Thanks magman for prompt response! I should have said 4 cells on the mamba monster 2200kv set up. I know you said that 5 cells was too fast on the 2200kv set up on yours. My question is? would the 2200kv set be OK to try on 5 or 6 cells with hurting the motor or esc? Thanks again

Bondonutz 05.08.2010 03:57 PM

+1 stay away from the Xcelorin

If you plan on 4s, go with the 2200.

If you go with 5s/6s the 1518 or 1520 would be better choices.

Shock Question

Got a question...I have a older Lightning Stadium Truggy that I got ripped on a few years ago when I bought it on RC Universe..recently rebuilt it but am now deciding if I want to convert it to brushless...I saw your post with the dual shocks and was wondering how you did that...did you have to buy two new shock towers or did you custom fit them with a part from HB?

coolink13 04.20.2011 06:44 AM

I have the same set up on my brushless Lightning. If I remember correctly? All I did was add rear shock stand offs that were made for the lightning and I think longer bolts to go through them. And 4 more Lightning shocks. I did not have to change the towers for sure. Hope that Helps.

Bondonutz 04.20.2011 09:47 AM

I used Ofna part # 36507 CNC'd shock stand offs and longer bolts with stock towers. Thats it !

I using Sportwerks Rear Buggy shocks in all 4 corners as well.

I've recently redid the layout and installed a Castle 1520 and built my own Battery tray/ESC mount from Kydex

Thanks sooo much for the info...I have been trying to get rid of the LSP on RC Universe but no bites (trying to fund a Brusless Revo) so I might just go and tackle the conversion for my LSP...yours looks GREAT...you did a fine job. I was thinking about going with Teckno's conversion kit for the HB D8T and maybe change the center diff which I think needs to be done as well as the shocks...The F & R diffs seem to be the same...the covers that is! Also, I might just have to change the suspension arms on her since I like the screw type holders instead of the damn E-Clips...I just wish I could get a trade on this to a Revo (don't know why I like the Revos so, who knows) but would like to do something before the weather gets better....

BTW...will the Ofna Shock Standoffs work with the factory tower from HB...your's look different?
