<<flm maxx-childproof>>
its time to build a new truck.
i have two kids and they love my "BIG" truck(FLM MAXX) of course will i build a truck to my spoiled kids... i want the truck bulletproof, but i want it to be cheap... where should i put the money?i have plastic arms and driveshafts because it cheap and easy to change when they crash, but some parts should/must hack a crash. i have: -FLM chassi -FLM towers -ofna shocks -stock a-arms -stock plastic driveshafts -stock diffs -stock carrier(?) -stock wheels http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/P1010755.jpg http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/t...d/P1010758.jpg -what kind of bulkheads should i choose? is the stockplastic bulks okey or should i buy some in alu? -moter/esc options for a slow BL truck? i want them to grow into the speed. maybe run it with 2s paralell and the change to serie? thanks guys.. |
I would put the money into the diffs., then trans to make them bombproof. Good bulks are a good idea as well as kids will hit more stationary objects than an adult would. The combo bulks/diff set up Mike sells is very nice and it uses 1/8 gears to really make it sweet! Also in the RCM store are alternatives if that is too expensive. Arms and driveshafts are easy enough to change so rpm arms would be good. On say a 4s set up a mmm/Tekin esc would be good.
The problem w/limiting speed is that the esc's run cooler/best at higher voltages and speed when geared correctly. ( more efficient ) So for a motor say a 2000kv truggy motor on 4s will be a good starting point....not crazy fast but fast enough to keep them entertained. They, kids, will have to learn throttle control. |
Is the stock diff so bad?
I was thinking use the stock diff with HR or FLM alu bulks... |
It will fail instantly under brushless strain....
|
I think i Will buy FLM hybrid with HB lightning PRO diff.

However, if you want to stay cheap, I would run the newer Emaxx's drivetrain and keep the power levels low for the kids. You could probably run a MMM/2650 system in on 2-3s and be fine. |
Mmm is expencive...if someone have à combo over please send me a pm.
I have find new hybrids with diff for a great price. I need the pro diff in my other truck for My CD project so its perfect. I have a lightning diff to put in this truck. Have anybody tried any "Kina" motors? I can run it with 4s and put down the gasthrottle. |
|
No & no- I killed 2 motors the same as that, they hate heavy alloy trucks, and I know someone ( a douche actually, but anyway... ) who had that esc and killed it in a truck much lighter than a maxx.
If you want cheap and reliable, but not excessivelty powerful = hvmaxx pro systems. Opt for th 6.5 or 7.5 motor versions, they can be found on ebay for only $190 which is pretty good value, and they perfrom just fine on 2x 2s lipo, geared for 30-35mph in a ~10lb truck. Otherwise, look into the hobbywing XErun 150amp esc and 4168 2200kv motor- about $50 or so cheaper than an MMM system, pretty much just as powerful ( motor is a little smaller, but still 4 poles ). A system with good customer service is fairly important, wouldnt like to imagine how young children would drive a BL maxx- need to learn throttle control before they fry the esc and motor.... :eyes: |
Maybe i should buy à MMM 2200 and throttle down.
The flm hybrid seller change his mind.... fu*k.. I need two okey buggy diffs, any suggestions? HB Db8? And i think i will use FLM bulks, but help me, i think i need à house to put the diff in befor i put it in the bulks. Where can i find those? Thanks |
http://cgi.ebay.com/TWO-UE-SPIDER6-U...item3a5befe512
Complete UE 1/8 diffs and cases- should sell for about $150 usually ( normally about $250-300 new ). If you just want to buy the cases ( new ), then only UE sell them, and only to USA residents, so... impossible to get basically, only if they appear for sale on ebay or for sale on a forum. |
And i can put them in the new FLM bulks?
And i can put mikes 6mm output and use traxxad stock shafts? Whats best? Flm hybrid with hb diff or neils ue link with flm bulks ????????? |
If they are the ordinary bulks like this:
http://www.fastlanemachine.net/prodi...misc%20030.JPG then yep, they will fit just fine. You can use Mike's output shafts too yes, just like I did: clicky As for which is best... I'd say they are about even really. The hybrid bulks will be a bit lighter, but if you damage them you have to replace a larger part vs just one cheap bulk. The UE diff cup is aluminium ( ofna spider technically speaking... ) so will be a bit stronger, but its rare that you will see a broken HB diff using a plastic cup. $$$ wise, they are pretty even, being equally expensive  |
Thank. I hope i get them...
I have replaced the outputs in my other truck and its greate. |
Thanks for all help Neil

Last a wile...? Its the new diff but i need something that is childproof...
The diff is made for traxxas bl and nitro trucks, but are they so bad or is the buggy diff just better? Do you understund My question? I live in Sweden and i cant buy ue stuff... -Stock diff and FLM bulkheads(and with luck buy i UE diff house from ebay) -FLM hybrid with some buggy diff, but its much money.. What to do? I think i Will use MMM2200 4s but trottle down the gas. I find this at the bay:New Ofna Hyper 7 Front/Rear Differential Diff w/ Pinion is it an okey diff? Will it fit the hybrid? |
Whats the difference between hvmaxx PRO 5.5/6.5/7.5
wich motor is best when i need strong truck? Is it difference kv? Low kv=stronger truck???? |
The new emaxx diffs will last a while- how long depends on how much abuse they get- lots of stopping & starting will strip the teeth sooner rather than later- the UE or other 1/8 diffs will outlast the truck usually..
The hvmaxx pro systems just come with different kv motors- 4.5 is fastest, 7.5 is slowest. That also means the 4.5 will run hottest and be most sensitive to gearing,- most people opt for the 6.5 for general bashing, its a nice mid-range motor for speed and power, easily accepts gearing for 20mph upto about 35mph, in a stock weight emaxx ( 10lb-ish ). I think that would be a good choice for the kids to use really, they'd have a hard time killing it unless they drive it into a lake or something.. |
Is the 1/8 diffs in a standar Size? And is there some bad diffs?the ofna diff i found doesnt cost that much, but is it a good diff?
Many people say novak is crap and the have heat problem... Is novak good stuff? Is i just a bad driver when the esc burns up? Novaks stuff cost less them ezrun and other Kina stuff.. Is the hv PRO with 6.5 motor a nice combo? |
The ofna diff and hotbodies diff are the same size ( cup & bearings ), though there are a few 1/8 diffs that are slightly smaller- cant remember off-hand so its best to stick with the ofna of HB ones; prices vary, but not by a great amount- both are great diffs
Novak is good when it works, a royal pain in the anus when it doesnt; just today some guy on another forum has had to send his new hvmaxx system back twice because it broke down for no apparent reason ( locked rotor, that wasnt locked... ). Its 2/3 the price of a new MMM system though, thats the main advantage ( along with not being too much power for a young child to handle ), although you could always look at the hobbywing escs and motors, or even a brushed setup ( kershaw designs 650 motors and an evx2 esc or something along those lines ). Its all personal choice really- you can tame down the MMM, get a beefy brushed setup, or use a hvmaxx and save money vs the MMM.... |
Fantastic Neil, thanks.
I Will go for MMM. But should i choose 2200 or 2650 motor? And i think i Will buy the hybrids with ofna hyper7 diff. |
I have a CC 2200 now..
|
Yeah, 2200 motor is better for a full sized MT, the 2650 would work but you'd be limited to 4s lipo, no higher, and gearign would have to be lower to compensate for it being a smaller motor.
|
Hybrids and new diffs is to Expencive...
I havent decide yet but maybe i Will go for stock diff. And they Will fit FLM bulks? |
Yes. :)
|
Is GH bulks okey?
|
Yes. Pretty much any brand of bulks will be fine, just avoid the integy ones, and avoid oens that have alot of metal machined away to save weight- tends to make them weaker & uglier looking..
|
I have order FLM stuff and ACNC rear skid.
I Will use the stock diff with FLM bulks. Is it any idea to use some alu diff housing with the diff? any good brands? |
I think FLM make diff cases for the 3905 spec diffs ( they are different internally vs the 3906 diffs ), but I doubt it'll make a huge difference really; the money spent upgrading the stock diffs still wont make bullet proof as its the tiny spider gears that break- cant fix that without upgrading to 1/8 diffs. I'd just run the stock plastic diffs and tone down the throttle on the esc to spare them some stress.
|
Nice. Now u have save some money for me.
|
Can i use the same diffoil setup with the stockdiff as i used in My maxxtruck with 1:8 diff? 7k in the front and 3k rear?
|
I dont believe so- there are fewer & smaller gears so you need to use thicker oil to have the same effect. Not sure whats recommended, but the traxxas website might have some info- racer setup sheets etc
|
Hmm is it possible to open up the diff, its sealed..
If can do it, can i use a revo racesetup. Dont find any good for maxx truck.but im not that good to search and look.. |
Yeah, they will open up easily enough- should be instructions & pictures on the traxxas website ( .pdf diagrams and manual ).
|
No problem to open them up, but i really dont know what oil i should put i in. I have read alot and everybody say difference... 100k around? Just to save the diff. Its for the kids so its not that important its perfekt. But the stock oil is 30k and very soft..
|
I Will try 30k rear and 50k in front.
Thats a setup many e-revobash trucks is useing.. Hope it Will be good |
I need servo suggestion..
I have found: Hitec 7955 Savöx 1268 Savöx 1256 Any other nice servos? Witch is best? What do you think of this:http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s.../_.17sec_/_52g |
If you want quality without question, then the hitec is great- I have a savox and although its really nice, it doesnt quite have the power I'd like- price is great though which works in its favour. You can look into Ace servos, BlueBird servos and Jr servos too- so many brands you could spend a month looking and never make a decision.
A pair of those Bluebird ones from hobbyking would be great though, plenty of power & still much cheaper than a single hitec.. |
Hmm the blue bird is 14.2 kg, cant i use it as a single servo?
