Mp 7.5 sc
1 Attachment(s)
hey guys, been wanting to start this for a long time. so here we go.
Twin force rear axle with MP 7.5 diff narrowed to 12.5" chassis will be custom cut to length. vertical plate will be cut from 4mm black or 4.5mm red CF take a look at the google sketch-up for my ideas so far. took me a better part of an hour to get this going. for those of you who use sketch up i can send you the file just send me a pm. will have either tekin 1/8th or MMM system. trick will be mounting the batts. real pics coming when i find my darn memory card... |
here are couple more shots with some more work done...
i think this will be the best place for the motor, as i dont really see a good way to mount it lower on the chassis yet. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...SC/topsc75.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/sidemp75.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...sorearsc75.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...SC/isomp75.jpg |

so figured out the pacing a little. reverse the chassis will give me plenty of room up-front.

slow going... need to buy some parts for the links. gonna get some STRR upper arms for the links. the added length should more than cover the distance. the links in the pics are from the buggy, and there is only about 1/8" threaded in for pictures' sake.
the wheelbase is just about 13" right now. but will be adjustable with the link system. hard part will be cutting the CF... with hand tools. does anyone know someone who has the capability. seriously, ill pay for the work, supply templates, all that jazz. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/IMG00083.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/IMG00084.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/IMG00085.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/IMG00086.jpg |
Nice project, looking forward to see how it turns out.

here's my update... (sorry bout the pic quality)
well here are some updated pics. took some 3mm carbon and made some pieces for the lower link mounts. also got the knuckles locked. they will look cleaner when its ready to drive, its all text fit for now. i plan to use some kyosho ST upper rear arms for the links. they are quite a bit longer, and pretty much beef. also got an idea for the shock mounts on the turnbuckle part of the lower links. i will have to get that up here in the next few days as well. still workin on the sides of this thing. i have the carbon. and been thinkin about just getting a rotozip to make my own. i have had a few suggestions from people who could cut it for me, but i am affraid of getting the measurements a bit off i guess. anyway: onto the pics. (with my blackberry) i know im lame http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/IMG00174.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/IMG00175.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/IMG00176.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/IMG00177.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/IMG00178.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/IMG00179.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/IMG00180.jpg |
here are some better pics, got the memory card issue sorted out.
http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2707.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2706.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2705.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2704.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2703.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2701.jpg |
made one cut and a little drawing. i think this could be a good shape for the vertical plate.
there will be a "table" so to speak about half way up where you can see the dotted lines on the drawing. this will be where the ESC will go, it wil also make the CF side much stronger. http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ssis-Joint-Set those things will be used to mount the table and also to mount the vertical paltes to the chassis. i'll buy a couple sets of them. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2721.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2722.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2723.jpg |
Interesting build. I'm thinking about doing the same thing to a 1/10 scale.
What body will you be putting on it? |
probably something form proline. whatever fits really. i'll probably be looking for someone's old basher body to do some test fitting.
|
Saweet! I hope torque steer isn't a problem.
|
Quote:
i am also planning a large torsion bar in the rear just like the full scale trucks. |
mods are the best!
|
looking great so far, i have seen afew of these builds and i still want to do one too
|
What are you gonna use to power this beast?
And where do you plan on putting your batts.? |
i plan to get an ezrun 80A. its not really a racer, just gonna be a fun truck, so i didnt see the need to go real exotic with a tekin or something like that.
The batteries will be attached to the outside of the vertical chassis plates, either via twin force battery trays, which have, or getting some trays from Mike. the motor mount is still up in the air. i plan to use a mount from Mike, but that might not fit. i might need to ask if Mike or someone else can mill me a vertical mount for the motor. |
check it out guys,
cut some CF tonight, with the hacksaw blade. yeah, thats right, just holding a blade, no handle attached. i used a piece aluminum stock as a straight edge clamped along each edge cut. i had each side bolted together so that each side would at least share the same mistakes :) had to take it apart before the last few cuts for some test fitting. what do you think? http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2758.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2757.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2756.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2755.jpg |
Looking good!
Hacksaw blade with no handle? ouch! |
i was at least wearing a glove, and had the vacuum in the other hand sucking up all the nasty airborne particulates.
gotta start smoothing the edges with a file and putting a nice thick coat of CA around them to keep them clean! |
gotta love the custom builds...great job!
|
got the shocks mounted. at least for testing things out. i am going to have to drill a bunch of different holes at some point.
that center plate is just holding it together now. it will really be there just a bit lower and actually mounted to the top of the center diff. the ESC will go on top of this. anyone know height in MM of mikes mounts? the back end of the CF is not fully fledged out yet, mostly because i need to decide which bumper to mount and if im going to put fake spares on the back as well. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2761.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2762.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2763.jpg |
i cut some out of the red CF i have too. its 3.5mm thick instead of 3mm. so a bit tougher, it also hads less gaps in the laminated layers compared to the black. so it is just beefier all around.
i moved the overall center of gravity more to the front of the chassis on this shape to allow for a more forward mounted shock position. i also cut a center plate out of the red CF, so its pretty bling when its together, went to th LHS yesterday and ordered some parts so i should have those middle of next week. stay tuned to see a roller!! pick your poison. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2788.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2786.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2784.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2785.jpg |
hey guys redesigned the rear lower links in my head again. too bad i spent bout $20 on parts, good thing is i can use those parts for the upper links.
Hesse machining already has these links, i would just need them shortened a bit maybe beefed up where the ball ends screw in since i use 5mm set screws there. what do you think? the battery trays and rear shocks were moved 12" forward to get them outta the screen shot for now. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...arcloseiso.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...5rearlinks.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...SCv5bottom.jpg i started drilling holes for the shock. the top line to the right was a guess. way off. the top line on the left is just junk. it sucks. but it will work. I started paying more attention on the 2nd two lines. i kinda buggered up that first one., http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2818.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2817.jpg brand new shark fin for the center upper mount!! lots of cool holes for different mounting positions. i plan to paint this flat black. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2820.jpg and i also did better on the set of black plates for the mounting holes for the shocks... http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2821.jpg |
some pics for fun..
got the plates mounted temporarily. until my new chassis material comes that is. also got a revo axle for the rear since that one may need to expand and contract. i still need to get a motor mount from rcmonster. and i can start mocking up that new chassis. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2822.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2823.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2824.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2825.jpg i had to mount the wheels, and put shocks on. still not close to being done, but i wanted to just see if it would look right. what do you all think? http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2826.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2827.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2828.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2829.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2830.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2831.jpg |
looking good
|
thanks, still lots to do!
does anyone know the length from left to right of one of Mike's mounts? around 3"?? |
anyone know that measurement?
|
hey guys, got busy with this today. i made a top plate that ties the whole thing together. getting the holes drilled correctly was a bit tough, but luckily i did it right the first time! there is plenty of room under neath for a servo.
i also have a cardboard representation of the motor mount. i was so worried about having to redesign that driveline, but it turns out there should be room using the stock center diff mounts. i'll take some more pics with the side plates on, i will also be adding some "lightening" holes in this plate. its gonna make it pretty stiff. comments welcome! http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2835.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2836.jpg \ http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2837.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2838.jpg |

did a little more work guys. I got a sheet of 7075 .125 alloy and cut a new chassis for this guy. spent the weekend cutting it and drilling some holes while watchin football. it is 7.5" wide, which should give plenty of room for the battery trays to mount on the side.
only made one small booboo, the front mounting hole on the right was off by about a 1/4" so there are 2 holes now. not a huge issue, but no perfect. and also the rear diff mount screws are a bit too close to the end. but i have a solution for that one. here are the pics. i know its boring all taped up, but it make it much easier to sketch on it for holes and suck. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2844.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2845.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2846.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2847.jpg |
well guys. here she is. Pretty much done as far as being a roller. i have to mount the servo, and elecs and its good to go. I really am very happy with this thing.
the weight balance is just about spot on. it balances almost exactly in the middle. on to the pics. in this pic you can see the lower arm rests at a funny angle. i might tweak this some before i get to running it. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2867.jpg the front width is pretty wide compared to this body. I am going to get a different body for this. i was looking at the f150 raptor. I was also thinking of using the Baja Bug body if i cant find a body to fit. there aren't many issues with the rear width. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2868.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2870.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2871.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2869.jpg the bumpers went on pretty easily! no real; issues there. same deal for the font body mount. easy mount on the front shock tower. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2872.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2873.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2874.jpg it already does tricks! it actually balances on the rear bumper. just thought that was kinda cool. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2875.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2876.jpg i think since i have this chassis plate done i am going to make another to correct the small errors i did the first time around. i am going to make the front bumper part of the chassis, not an added plate. so what do you think? |
few updates. got the links mounted a better way, and put holes in the chassis plates.
also: recut the lower chassis so its all one piece now. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2889.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2886.jpg |
Nice work. I had the same problem up front with the body not being quite wide enough for the tires on my Ofna. I added a bit of camber and they would tuck under the fenders when the suspension was compressed. Can't wait to hear your driving impressions.
|
i'll see what kind of camber i can add to this thing. gotta get the body i really want for this thing too.
i can't wait to hear my driving impressions too |
Very cool!
Would like to hear you impression on how it drives. |
hey guys. i got the revo cantilever shocks worked out finally. you can probably see all the holes i had to drill in this thing to figure it out. but i think this is the best setup. i am using the long travel rockers from the revo. i still need to relocate the sway bar. its a tough fit now with the rockers on the side of this thing. this easily DOUBLED the travel that it had. it is VERY soft and plush now. i may need to get some thicker oil in the thing. i put some spacers on the shock, but that didnt help too much.
on to the pics. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2981.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2983.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2982.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2984.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2985.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2988.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2986.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2987.jpg here are the close ups for you guys that care to get really close... there is still some prettying up to do for the new angle brackets. i had 1/16th stock on there. this is 1/8th stock. they need to be trimmed and lightened up a good bit. http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2989.jpg http://i63.photobucket.com/albums/h1...C/DSCN2990.jpg |
