Computer Build and Introduction
I guess all start with intro...
Well my name is Mitch and 16 yrs old. I've been watching these forums for a while and only recently became a member. I have a converted E-revo and a Hyper9e (all brushless of course). For a couple of weeks I have been researching computers and which setup will suit my needs (extreme performance) and I came up with this list that I ordered Tuesday. -Case -PSU -Memory -CPU -Mobo -CPU cooler -Display -Graphics card I already have a couple spare HD's so no need to spend any more. As far as building goes, our family has three custom computers already so I'm assuming this build will not be too difficult. And yes, I did pay for this entirely myself. I was dishes at the local pizza place. i'll give you guys a full update and pics when it comes fri. |
I hope my six year old boy grows up to be like you. Hard working, resourceful, honest with the drive and willingness to follow through with any project he can think of. By the way, I don't know much about computers but the stuff looks cool.
|
Well Hello Mitch! I am Harold. I'm a nut job, but occasionaly entertaining.
Good for you for working to get what you want. Not enough people are willing to put the work in. If you keep on laboring your life will be much easier. Looking forward to seeing your pc build. Throw some pics of your r/c's up too! |
Good for you man, I was working at a candy factory when I turned 16 to afford my games and stuff. I didn't build my first computer till I was almost 21. It's an awesome experience doing it for your first time.
Beyond the case which I personally don't care for, you've definently done your homework and picked out quality components all around. I remember researching for 3-4 months in regards to everything before building my computer back in spring of 2001. It was alot of work, but it paid off. Let me know if you have any questions. I would recommend this PSU instead as the modular cables help reduce cable clutter alot and Corsair makes some really good PSU's http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139012 Are you going to be running SLI or Crossfire or just single vid card? |
That thing is gonna rip!
|
I'll be running just a single for now. It should still be plenty of powa to run/play anything on the highest resolution and settings. And for the PSU I couldn't pass up $-40 instant savings, and the case supposedly has a lot of room for wiring.
I know for some of the older people here the case may not look so great, but cmon... digital camo, pretty sweet for that price |
I suppose, i'm more of an Antec case fine myself. This is my current build "Black Ice" I've probably done close to a dozen custom modified cases over the years, including water cooling when I was in my computer building prime. Now i'm just wanting silence and simplicity.
I custom made the HDD suspension cables to reduce drive noise. http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m.../silence15.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...SFF/night2.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m.../angleglow.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m...F/silence7.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m.../silence10.jpg http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m.../silence13.jpg |
Wow! Nice build. That case definitely makes the computer look very clean.
I'm actually typing on a Antec cased computer right now. I like the 900 but I wanted something unique if I'm going to spend that much money. Only thing that would make me not want to do the hard drive mount stringy thing is if you wanted more the one HD, hanging two looks like a challenge. |
get a better case with more internal space.
my setup for inspiration CPU:Core i7-930@3.65 + Noctua NH-D14 Mainboard: GA-X58A-UD3R Memory:6GB OCZ3G1866LV6GK VGA:Gainward GTX285 GS Sound:X-FI Platinum + ProGamer G500 + Sennheiser HD-555 AE (595 upgrade) Monitor:BenQ FP241W + Dell 2009W Storage: Kingston 64GB V SSD + WD4000AAKS +WD5000AAKS + Samsung HD753LJ a HD103UJ, Sony AD-7241S Case&PSU: Lian-Li PC-V1200B Plus II + 3x Noctua NF-P12-1300, Corsair 650W, Zalman MFC1 Plus Accessories:Aver Speedy, Logitech MOMO, Logitech Chillstream, Razer Lycosa, MX Performance + G500 + eXactMat it is not possible to keep inside looking clean :) just too many wires and continuous upgrades. however everything is cool and very, very quiet thanks to Noctua fans. http://img.rcx.cz/big.jpg |
Noctura fans are sweeet! I have used them in the past. They won't fit in the Antec Skeleton case very well.
Looks like a solid build.. |
Nocturas are nice, just farking expensive..... The Typhoon I got is a nice balance of price and noise.

I don't know about more internal space. I was looking at a couple of youtube reviews and they said it had quite a lot of internal space for a mid tower.
|
These would be better options IMO, especially the P183, awesome case to reduce noise

Mike should sell computer parts... He would get a lot more money from me! |
Have you looked at the Lian Li's?
I know a few people who are quite happy with their Lian Li's and swear by them. Besides that, that computer should blow everything out of the water. I, personally, would've went with the i7-920, but hey, it is a pretty penny. Since everybody else is contributing, I'll toss in my BUDGET computer.. RandomCheapFry'sCase Biostar A770E3 AMD Athlon II X4 620 @ 2.66GHz Corsair DDR3 1333mHz 4GB (2x2GB) BFG Tech nVidia GTS 250 (2) Seagate Barracuda, 500GB + 1.5TB External 500GB (backups) Cooler Master 600W PSU Samsung SyncMaster 2232GW Good luck with the build, get some documented pics, I'm definitely interested in your setup! |

I have Lian Li, all aluminum... black brushed finish. Even have the matching brushed aluminum flash memory reader.

My computer was $993 with a monitor after shipping from Newegg.
6gb DDR3 G.Skill ram AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Ed. 3.4GHz XFX Radeon HD 5770 GIGABYTE GA-880GA-UD3H Motherboard Antec Earthwatts 500w PSU Antec 300 case w/ 2 extra 120mm fans Samsung 1tb hard drive Samsung SyncMaster P2250 22" monitor I can play Bad Company 2 on max settings, full AA, Vsync, using DX11 getting 35-40fps according to FRAPS. I am dual booting Linux Ubuntu and Windows 7. I use windows for gaming and everything else is done with Ubuntu. I love ubuntu. The Rhythmbox music player on linux is amazing, especially with the keyboard shortcuts where I can change/pause a song at any time, with anything open. If you want me to rant about how much better rhythmbox is over iTunes, let me know. Linux REALLY loves the quad core processor. When I was testing fooling around I saw that each core had equal load on it. My only gripes with linux is that the flash player driver sucks and I can't sync playlists to my iPod. Both will probably be fixed in the future, when google hopefully replaces the crap adobe flash POS and developers perfect using the iPhone with Linux. http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/DSCN0399.jpg http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p...1/DSCN0439.jpg I am looking at a chipset heatsink, more fans, a new CPU cooler, and a few other things. I don't need 6gb ram (I've only seen it above 4gb once when I was trying to bog down the computer) so I think I might built a HTPC and use a stick for that. Edit: And my processor is more efficient than all of those intel processors. |

I just personally like the lynfields (sp?) better. I know they bashed around on the computer forums but I think that if your not going to be doing serious overclocking, the lynfields are better. BTW: tracking says that my case and display will show up today, but everything else saturday or monday. |
Lynnfields, are great.
Though, I got the AMD and Biostar combo for around $60 or so. It was on clearance @ Fry's, so I said why not! Sure, it's not going to be overclocking or anything, but it's much much cheaper. It works great for my use, some heavy gaming here and there, casual gaming, and then rendering, decoding, and encoding videos. Only gets to about 55°C when I'm really trying to bog it down. The proc. separately is $100 (first quad for $100!), and the mobo is roughly 80 or so. The computer before this one was the E8500 w/ ECS mobo, that sucker was fast! Intel Core 2 Duo @ 3.16GHz (Not even OC'd).. I've seen people OC'ing 8500s to over 4.0, and well, that thing would've ripped. |
Grrrrrrrr...I HATE waiting for shipping :(((

I'm assuming it's coming tomorrow? I hate that the most. Waiting over the weekend. Bored out of your mind.. |
Yep, should be here tomorrow
|
Wakes up at 5:30 in the morning to check tracking

He's still building it...

Sorry for no updates... My Mobo came with three pent CPU socket pins. Sent it back to newegg.
I might go to a local store here in MN and pick one up and sell the replacement newegg sends. Its also only $139 here in MN. I'll upload pics of everything else though |

It's super silent, still reasonable fast and it never fails me :) @ Hyper, pity to hear from the CPU socket pins, always nasty to get a DOA :( |
Nice rig Nox, I haven't done watercooling since 2002. I'm glad you also picked Antecs nicest case :yipi:
|
