My first truggy :)

Hi guys :)

Ive been stuck in Revoland for 3 years now. I have a couple of nitro revos in bags and boxes, and I have my E-Revo. My E has been a total blast! I dont have any plans on selling it, but I wanted to try something different. I had an opportunity to grab an MBX5T Prospec roller for a verry good price locally, so I jumped on it :mdr: This thing is very nice! And well maintained :whip: I have a conversion kit ordered, and will grab a few things from the store here as well. I snapped a couple of pix with it and my trusty Revo.. I cant wait to get it going! :mdr:

Pix!

Sweet...On my mbx5T I run a 1520 on 5s w/the mmm esc and it is sweet. BEFORE you add brushless power, make sure to check diffs for correct shimming. In my haste to get my running, I forgot to check them and blew front and rear. Nitro running is a little more forgiving than BL power.

Have fun!

freeagent 08.13.2010 06:08 PM

Thank you sir :mdr:

Thanks for the tip, I was just going to run it, but I will check the diffs now

That's just what I did..did not end so well when I did. Well worth the 1hr of time to tear down and check...besides, the diff fluid will be different for electric . I run 15K front 20k center and 7k rear. I only bash so this works well for me

freeagent 08.13.2010 07:47 PM

Thats the plan for this one too, its going to be a basher.. I was trying to see what my revolvers and badlands looked like on it, the sad part is I already misplaced the hex bolt! Noobs eh :grrrrrr:

But it looks good

Thanks for the tip on the diff fluids, Ill try it out :)

nuz69 08.17.2010 10:32 AM

I race with a prospec mbx5t, it takes a lot of abuse without any wear, I only broke some front lower arm on very bad landings at high speed but every other truggies would have broke too... You will be happy with it !
+1 on the diffs shimming, use washers to ajust correctly the mesh between spur and bevel gear. I ran 150 batteries and my diffs are unused.
Mugen drivetrains are the most invulnerable drivetrains, exactly what we need for brushless power :D
My setup for racing : 30K, 15K, 10K.

freeagent 08.17.2010 08:06 PM

Thanks man :) After watching a ton of vids on youtube while at work, this thing is going to be badass I think.. Theres alot of nice ones on here too, some awsome info to be had :) I get my conversion kit in a few days woooo :)

brushlesswonder 08.18.2010 02:20 PM

nice truggy bud! are you going to be racing it?

freeagent 08.18.2010 03:00 PM

Thanks man! To be honest Ive never been on a track before :(

Out of my group of friends, it seems that I am the last one to own an rc.. Driveing by yourself is ok now and then, but not all the time.. So I may get into it a little bit. I thought the 5 was a total badass, but it appears there are some newer flashier models, so Im not sure how competitive I would be, but it doesnt hurt to try! I have some VTR's that I can use for now.. We will see how it goes next year tho :) I wanted to try raceing my revo at one point, but never got around to it.. This thing totally outclasses it in every single way!

oh well your one of the lucky ones

all my friends do is sit on their bums all day and play "call of duty" me no call of duty, i like spend me money on my favorite toys, but when winter comes ill play cod. :na: to be honest i think your truggy and your E-revo could out run some people on the track:mdr: you just got to try and see if your competitive. wish you the best of luck!

and No problem

freeagent 08.19.2010 11:52 AM

Hehehe maybe :)

Dont get me wrong, I love cod too, but this is summer, we have long winters, so I like to get my rc time in when I can heheh. In the winter Ill get back to pwning noobs and masters alike :)

Thanks for the faith in my toys :) I think I would do ok, I would have to get used to being on a track. As for driving, I think Im pretty decent, and I could probably be competitive. I just give myself a hard time because I havent been on a track. My Revo is set up so sweet right now, I still <3 her :)

revo guy 08.19.2010 11:54 AM

Eliminator-RC is having a race this weekend, come out to race. It is not overly competitive and it is always tons of fun. And they also have great random prizes:party:

freeagent 08.19.2010 11:58 AM

That works good for me too, because usually everytime they have a race on, I have to work! I think Ill see you there :) Mine will be the black beetle !

revo guy 08.19.2010 04:25 PM

Great, also i believe you need to prepay to have the roast pig (Race for the pig)

and I will have the ERBE with red rims and a red wing

freeagent 08.19.2010 08:12 PM

Thats no problem, I love dead animal cooked over fire, makes me feel closer to my inner caveman, ugg :)

If you dont mind me asking, what pinion and spur do you run at their track?

revo guy 08.19.2010 09:41 PM

Come on Saturday for practice and I will help you set up your e revo if you want. But I run 6s hobbycity lipos and 18/65 with 0 motor timing (OVERPOWERED). Also a 8th scale center diff helps alot.

freeagent 08.19.2010 09:47 PM

Sweet, I can run 4 or 6s too, I have a crapload of pinions and spurs, as well as all the spring sets :whip:

freeagent 08.30.2010 11:04 PM

I was just messing around with my 5t, I pretty much converted it heheh. If I were to stick with this setup instead of the tekno kit Im waiting for, Id Just need the RC monster mount and a pinion I think

Im looking forward to getting it going :great:

Thanks man!

I think I will get the mount! My tekno kit shipped already, and Ill still pay for it, but Im gonna sit on it.. I want to try this setup out, it feels pretty good the way it is.. Except I dont like how the esc is positioned.. So I was thinking of maybe slideing the lipos forward a bit more. In order for me to able to use my castle/neu 2200kv I have to cut it free from the revo motor mount... Too much locktite and stripped hexs= tears :(

I took the time to make some minor adjustments here and there, and I cleaned up the wires a bit, I think shes good to go :rules:

I also want to get some 0 offset rims because I think it might be a bit on the wide side with half inch offsets.. with vtr wheels on my Revo, this thing is 3 inches wider than it lol

freeagent 09.10.2010 05:32 PM

I havent gotten my truggy going yet because i am waiting on parts :(

So in the meantime I bought a MBX5B for a good price, still need a few parts for it too lol :)

Shes gonna be brushless too

Well, before I found out all I really needed was the RC Monster motor mount, I went ahead and ordered the tekno conversion. My order did not ship when it was supposed to, so I have been waiting since they day I posted the first pix in this thread for it to come heheh. It just came today :) Now Im thinking about just keeping the battery tray from it, and selling the kit and ordering 2 RCM mounts, 1 for each MBX5

Edit:

But Ive snagged the big bores from the mbx5 and threw em on the 5t :mdr:

definitely order the mounts from RCM...well worth it. Both my Mugens use Mike's mounts. I have extra big bore shocks on my truggy as well..Xray ones I think. Makes a huge difference when bashing. The suspension is so smooth..nicest suspension of all my trucks

freeagent 09.10.2010 09:45 PM

Oh man I totally agree with you. I thought the stock mugen shocks were nice, compared to my revos, but these Jammins are silky sweet goodness :)

freeagent 09.16.2010 11:43 AM

Okay! This thing is just about done, I need to get a pinion, and some stiffer springs for these shocks heheh. I kind of prefer the other setup I had with the stock chassis, but this is pretty decent, it seems alot more rigid the the stock one. I will probably have to tear it down to put in some heavier diff fluids, but thats ok :mdr:

This thing is heavy now, I was going to try out a 17t pinion, maybe 15 or 16 would be better.. I only have 4s and 6s to run with either a Castle 2200kv or T8 2250kv so I kinda shot myself in the foot there :whip:

magman 09.16.2010 08:14 PM

I like the layout. I have never been a fan of the Tekno battery stap set up. ALL my trucks have a custom made battery box made here at RCM to fit specific batteries..well worth the $ IMO. As I have them made to fit, the batteries do not move an inch and it gives me piece of mind when the truggy is 15' in the air.

Your set up looks good! On 6s w/a 2200kv motor that must scream. Someday if you can keep the 6s and get a 1500kv motor for the 6s, it would be a much more efficient setup .

I run a 1520 1600kv on 5s in my mbx5T and it flies

freeagent 09.16.2010 08:40 PM

Thanks compadre, Im glad you like it! Im at work, off in 20 mins but its just my luck that 1. its raining, and 2. its almost dark out, and I cant really see that well in the low light :( I will look into other battery trays, this one is different then the one that came with the original tekno conversion for the revo. This is is waay longer, maybe close to 2 inches? As for the straps, I reaaly cannot comment, as I have never drivein with a battery setup like this before, I never did finish that nitro revo conversion lol..

As for 6s and 2200kv, its a total frikkin animal in a Revo, I can only imagine how this will move heheh. First run will be with 4s, just so I can monitor the diffs, and the whole setup in general, and go from there. I do plan on getting a lower kv motor, I was thinking around 1800kv, but maybe not.. I might have to copy you and get the motor you are running heheh

Edit:

Lol ok the tray isnt 2 inches longer, but it might as well be heheh :)

magman 09.16.2010 08:48 PM

did you check your diffs after your got it for proper shimming? I forgot to and it cost me a set of front and rear gears. On 4s it should be ok , but, on anything higher the shimming is CRITICAL.

Same goes for your buggy as well...don't for get to check them!

magman 09.16.2010 08:51 PM

If you look at my truck above there are a couple of good pics of the batt tray Mike made for me

freeagent 09.17.2010 01:04 AM

No I havent, I opend up the diff and stopped when it dawned on me Im not exactly sure what Im looking for.. I did go and get my new fluids, but I havent put them in yet. Should I order a few shim kits? My local shop might even have them..

Oh yeah, this thing is a total pig! I might have to put the stock shocks back on because these springs on the BB's cant take the weight very well..

http://img824.imageshack.us/img824/3442/img3584l.jpg

Edit:

Those lipos are 5k 3s 20/30c zippys

freeagent 09.17.2010 12:15 PM

After some hardcore googleing I know what Im looking for :) Im going to grab some shims on my way to work, and when I get home its sugery time :) Also, I weighed her up with some 2s 5200 40c smc packs, and its alot lighter heheh.

http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/3047/img3596f.jpg

magman 09.17.2010 01:01 PM

I believe mine weighs around 11 lbs. But, I am running a 1520 on 5s. Absolutely check your diffs...easier to add shims than shell out $ for more diff parts

When you open the diffs, check to see how much play you have in the pinion gear...movement front to back. You want the gears to mesh tightly (smoothly ) but not move a lot if that makes sense. Shims are added to reduce slop, movement or what ever you want to call it. My rear diff took 2 shims while my front only took 1 using 1mm shims

freeagent 09.17.2010 06:07 PM

Awsome, well I will go ahead and do that :) I did that to my revo, and it helped for a few runs with a tight slipper. I read a thread on the mugen forums where I guess a rep went over how to properly setup a diff on a 6t, it was tedious, he was shimming all the way around, assembleing, disassemleing, it was controlled chaos heheh. If its just the pinion then thats uber easy heheh :)

Also I couldnt get 7k diff fluid, I cant remember what I bought off hand, even tho I should know, but Im tired and stuck in the office so when I get home I will letchoo know Ive got.

freeagent 09.17.2010 10:03 PM

Hmmm.

Well okay Ive got 7k, 10k, and 20k..

Think 10 is a bit thick for up front?

It was 15k they didnt have :whip:

magman 09.18.2010 10:52 AM

I am happy with 15k up front and 20 center...but I only bash

freeagent 09.18.2010 11:49 AM

Do you think 10k would be too thick for up front? They didnt have 15k, she tried to tell me it didnt exist.

Nard Cox 09.18.2010 11:57 AM

I drive 15-15-10 on my MBX6Te. But I race on astro turf which is pretty high traction.

What! I must have 3 bottles of 15 kicking around. I normally run in really soft sand so my set up is perfect for me.
