lipo packs

Hi. I just got addicted, already, to a brushless converted truggy ( I'm thinking of a HPI Hellfire with some speedtech hopups and, ofcourse, Mike's help).

I need six lipo cells for my setup. 6400-8000mah are my target equipped with a balance connector. I also need a charger( a good one for no more than 150-200 with a balancer). I'm ready to spend $600 maxximum for 6s lipos and charger.

The project is going to take a very long time, I guess. With God's willing, I might have it ready after 10-12 months. Money is a real problem right now.

Thanks for help, though

Try to look at maxamps, get the EOS charger, and the LVD's they have, just browse their site for now. www.maxamps.com

MetalMan 04.08.2006 03:33 PM

If you buy from Maxamps, you could get two 3s2p packs with their 3000mah cells, so 6000mah total. That's $240 for the packs, and then you can get 2 Hyperion LBA6 balancers, $40 each, $80 for both. Without a charger, that's $320. There really aren't many (if any) chargers besides the AF109 that can do 6 Lipo cells for under $200, but the Thunder Power 1010C is $200 and is very good.
If you get the TP 10cell balancer for $100 and charger, along with the data cable to go between the balancer and charger, you would have a completely fool-proof charging setup that is advanced as it gets. So, for $300 you get a top-notch charging setup. Then, you would have $300 left for batteries.

captain harlock 04.09.2006 09:08 AM

Well, that seems interesting. Are the Maxamps lipos good enough for my setup? How much will it cost me if I get the 8000mah packs in 6s form?
I'll check on the TP balancer and charger. I might go for a Schulze charger if needed.

Thanks for the help, Sylvester and MetalMan.

It would cost $380 total for two 3s2p packs, that would be put in series for 6s2p 8000mah.

squeeforever 04.09.2006 11:07 AM

but keep in mind, the schulze charger is a little less than 200. ive seen it for 160.

MetalMan 04.09.2006 11:11 AM

Which one?

squeeforever 04.09.2006 01:32 PM

the 330d.

captain harlock 04.09.2006 01:57 PM

The isl 8-936g is listed for 889 dollars or something. Is it that incredible to be sold for such a rediculous price?!!!!!

MetalMan 04.09.2006 02:17 PM

The Schulze 330d at 3s-6s Lipo can do up to 5.5amps. That would be an option, but it doesn't have the ability to interface with a balancer, like the TP 1010C charger can.

squeeforever 04.09.2006 06:07 PM

ah...that makes since. so its not a cc/cv?

starscream 04.10.2006 01:09 AM

The maxamps packs do not appear to be pre-wired for a balancing cable. So, this may sound dumb but how will the maxamps pack be balanced without being pre-wired to do so?

captain harlock 04.10.2006 04:36 AM

Well, you're the pros here and I simply need the best for a moderate price. Batteries should not go under 6k mah.

nl12 04.10.2006 06:04 AM

You need to have a close look at a hellfire first, there is not a lot of room on the chassis for lipos, that is one of the reasons why i chose to convert a Jammin crt instead, maybe you have some better ideas on where to put stuff, it looked like a more challanging conversion to me. I am sure it can be done though, the new kyosho MP777ST-R would be a cool conversion too.

It's an option on their website. Look under where it says "Add to Cart", and you will see 2 options for taps, TP taps or Hyperion taps.

Does the warrior 9918 have a lipo cutoff voltage?!

squeeforever 04.23.2006 01:40 PM

nope

coolhandcountry 04.23.2006 02:17 PM

You can get like a li saver for the cutoff. Mike was supposed to get some in but never got a response from company.

captain harlock 04.23.2006 04:24 PM

My Schulze 18.149 has a lipo cutoff voltage, however, I dont know if its gonna handle the 6s pack. Promod did tell me that he ran very high voltage in his 12.97 and 18.97 without any troubles, but I'm a bit worried. I'm not that lucky.

coolhandcountry 04.23.2006 04:51 PM

I don't know about the 18.149 but my 18.97 has a cutoff for lowvoltage but not lipo.

stampy 04.23.2006 06:02 PM

if you havent got a charger yet and your going to run 2 3s packs to make up 6s in the truck then you could go with a mrc 977. ive got one and i love it it will do 2 3s packs at once even if there a diff mah plus if your packs can take it, it will charge each pack at 5amps plus its only like $120 :)

squeeforever 04.23.2006 06:29 PM

the 989 is a little better and is worth the wait. its only gonna be 75 and can charge 8s lipo or 20 nimh cells.

captain harlock 04.24.2006 06:47 AM

I'm already fixing my eyes on the Thunder Power charger and Balancer. I'm also leaning toward the Schulze chargers.

Coolhandcountry: have you ever ran or over celled your 18.97 esc?

coolhandcountry 04.24.2006 03:54 PM

I have not captain. I have ran 18 maxx on it. I have thought about it but hate to see it fry. I wish I could help more.

joostin420 04.24.2006 04:39 PM

your timeframe is beating mine, i am going on 1.5 years now with 2 projects :005: finally 95% done or so on my Rustler 1/8 buggy thing, and about 80% done on the Dual lehner 4200 Wild Dagger.

i just got a Duratrax Ice because it was rec'd by so many people everywhere for lipos. i did get the 25amp Radio Shack power supply for it as well, total $220 for both.

justin

captain harlock 04.25.2006 01:22 PM

But the Ice charger does not have a balancer.

MetalMan 04.25.2006 10:11 PM

You can use a stand-alone balancer. In reality, that's all that the Thunder Power 10cell balancer is, but it has a port to connect to the charger. That setup is the ultimate in safety, and will give the longest pack life because it will keep the cells balanced very well.

starscream 04.25.2006 10:33 PM

Just FYI
The FMA Cellpro and BlanaceProHD chargers have adapters for PQ and TP packs.

Great! Oh, when I was surfing around I found a new ProBalance charger by FMADirect. Check it out at TowerHobbies.com

MetalMan 04.26.2006 06:03 PM

You mean this one?:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXMPJ0&P=7

captain harlock 04.27.2006 06:34 AM

Yeah, however, I dont think I'll be able to use it with any lipo packs I may choose. Probably they'll release a Scorpion version for the rc cars and trucks.

Tazz 05.02.2006 01:42 PM

Captain if you are still interested in the TP charger and balancer the cheapest place that I have found is at Helihobby.
http://helihobby.com/html/helicopter_chargers.html

captain harlock 05.02.2006 02:55 PM

Thanks a bunch, Tazz. I'll refer to Mike when I get the chance to buy my lipos.

captain harlock 06.06.2006 01:24 PM

Anyone knows if I can actually use the Electrifly Lipos my maxx ? they come with a balance port wired with them. They say that any charger with a balancing system can be used. They're sold for 110 for 3s. So, 6s would cost 220. The charger of choice would be the FMA balance pro 6s charger. Any feedbacks?
