feigao 380XL

hi guys,

what would be a good speed control for this motor? and what voltage would it run best on? what vehicles would it be good for? has a kv rating of 2903.

I know there was a thread to do with this motor but i did a search and cant find it.

Thanks for any help :)

squeeforever 04.09.2006 10:50 AM

a 7020 would be a good controller for it.

MetalMan 04.09.2006 11:11 AM

You could use 4s Lipo or 12 NiMh cells with a motor like that. It might be good for a lightweight E-Maxx.

Sylvester 04.09.2006 11:23 AM

Dont you think that little motor would run a bit hot? Or maybe it would be similar to a normal 540 "L" motor.

coolhandcountry 04.09.2006 11:53 AM

It is about the size inside of a hv maxx so i would go with about he hv maxx suggestions. That would be me though. 12 cells and 14 72 gearing.

squeeforever 04.09.2006 01:24 PM

yup. like coolhand said, its about the size of an hv (i have 3 of these little motors). only disadvantage is the fact that you need to make a motor mount...

stampy 04.10.2006 02:20 AM

sorry to thread jack but i dont wont to start a hole new thread. is the 380c L motors the same leaght as the 540 L motors. i wont to know cause im thinging of getting a 380c 6L for my little truck

squeeforever 04.10.2006 08:17 AM

not sure about the L C cans but the little 380xl is about and 1/4 of inch shorter than my 540xl.

MetalMan 04.10.2006 08:38 AM

The 380C L motors are longer than the 540 L motors by 5mm.

squeeforever 04.10.2006 08:56 AM

thats kinda unusual...

coolhandcountry 04.10.2006 09:01 AM

I was thinking the same thing squee.

Edit:
I found the L at 57 mm long and the xl at 67mm long. both are a touch shorter than the 540 motors.

stampy 04.11.2006 12:45 AM

ok guys that just how much clearence ive got now one more question. whats the overall dia. on the c can? it says that the reg. 380 is about 28 but the c can has the heat sink which would it have a bigger dia.

Basketti 04.12.2006 04:59 AM

How would the motor compare to a hv-maxx?

coolhandcountry 04.12.2006 05:26 AM

If you give me a little bit basketti. I have a couple of these coming. I will test them to see what is up with them.

squeeforever 04.12.2006 02:26 PM

cool, sent em yesterday so they should be there by friday or saturday at the most.

coolhandcountry 04.12.2006 05:40 PM

Thank you squee. I can't wait to test them out. I am curious at what they will do. I going to test one first and compare it to a novak.

stampy 04.14.2006 07:42 PM

nobody knows the overall dia. if the 380c can:032:

Basketti 04.14.2006 08:31 PM

I just measured mine and its 28mm

stampy 04.15.2006 12:24 AM

sweet just what i needed to know thx basketti :)

coolhandcountry 04.15.2006 03:29 PM

You don't have a c can though basketti. I think the c can is bigger for the fins. Did you ever try yours out yet. I got me one for testing purposes.

stampy 04.15.2006 05:30 PM

dangit :030: any body know the dia of the c can 380?

Basketti 04.15.2006 06:13 PM

opps sorry stampy. I haven tried it out yet, im actually selling it lol cause i just got a savage.

Cartwheels 04.16.2006 08:24 AM

The 380c can is 36mm.

coolhandcountry 04.16.2006 05:53 PM

I got one to test out basketti. I want to see how they compare to hv maxx. The about the same size inside so may be simaliar in power. Don't know until i try. I may try a video of it.

stampy 04.16.2006 11:28 PM

tnx cartwheels

boss 302 04.17.2006 08:11 AM

let us no how it goes chc

Basketti 04.18.2006 12:00 AM

Whats the max current rating for these motors? Thanks

coolhandcountry 04.18.2006 09:51 AM

What I read up on them. It seems to be about 55 amps.

Basketti 04.19.2006 06:32 AM

Thanks CHC. Did you manage to get it running in your maxx yet?

coolhandcountry 04.19.2006 07:37 AM

I have to get me some mounts made to fit the gmaxx mount. I going to test one out and then a dual system out. I want to compare and see how one does. Then I can see how much a two motor setup is different. Not only that but I am also building a truck for this project run. :027:

stampy 04.19.2006 07:50 PM

how bout you make a vid to :018:

coolhandcountry 04.19.2006 08:59 PM

I won't make any promises stampy. I will try to get one made up for you. It will only be on 12 cells though.

stampy 04.19.2006 09:11 PM

thats fine :003:

Cool, Sounds like fun! hope it all turns out well.

Red350DropTop 04.23.2006 02:50 PM

Based on some calculations in a spread sheet I have the 380XL 8Turn motor is approximately the same as a 540s 12 turn motor. Also, you can look at the Kv and Amp draw of the two and see that.

380XL 8
Kv 2903
Amp 53

540S 12
Kv 2958
Amp 54

coolhandcountry 04.23.2006 03:51 PM

Does the sheet tell you kt of the motor? I would be interested in knowing this.

Red350DropTop 04.23.2006 05:27 PM

Kt calculated to be 0.459869101 for the 380 8XL
Kt calculated to be 0.451318458 for the 540 12S

But, the IO is higher on the 380XL than the 540s so that hinders the torque output of the 380 a little bit. The 12t 540S turns out to have a very slightly higher torque output than the 8t 380xl, but not by much.

coolhandcountry 04.23.2006 05:37 PM

Thanks for that info. I will surely have to try it out now. Even more so than before.

stampy 04.23.2006 05:52 PM

something tells me that the 380cxl should do better that the 12s but im no expert

boss 302 04.23.2006 08:16 PM

the 380xl would probably spool up faster
