What are your other hobbies?

My primary hobby is drag racing. 80 Chev Malibu 383 w/spray, TH350 manual shift body and trans-brake. 9in rear end, 6pt roll cage, etc etc.

Here are some pics of our build this spring. first pass out was 11.80 @113 with NO spray and using the foot brake. next year we are hoping to get into the low to mid 10s with a 200hp shot.

Here is the car as i bought it last fall. 36k original miles, V6, typical little old lady story.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...DSC00453-1.jpg

we pulled the front clip and then the engine, and in a matter of hours had the body off the frame so we could notch the frame for the bigger tires.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...DSC00076-2.jpg

then we painted the frame with Por15 and set the solid body mounts on the frame.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...DSC00094-1.jpg
here is the body up on my super scary looking but surprisingly sturdy setup. I was under this for a few hours scraping off undercoating....not fun

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...DSC00068-1.jpg

Body is back on frame, and engine and tranny are in. New manual brakes, line-lock and prop valve are also installed.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...DSC00112-1.jpg
another with the nitrous kit installed
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...u/DSC00137.jpg

fenders and core support back on, as well as the electric water pump installed
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...u/DSC00120.jpg

semi-finished product, just needs cage, fuel cell, and rear fire wall installed/fabricated
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...u/DSC00124.jpg

Heres the finished car at the gas station (it stops there frequently)

Here is the color i want to paint the car eventually
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6.../1975/side.jpg
these are the only pictures i have of the car at the track. I actually ended up going around this guy on the top end for the win. not sure what the time was but im usually around 11.80 Launches are usually wheels up if i use the trans brake, but only 7-8 inches or so but still pretty impressive for my first drag car! And i havent even hit the spray yet
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...20pics/373.jpg

I ended up beating this car also, its a 2000 turbo charged camaro.

I left out LOTS of details, just wanted you to get the basics of what my other hobby is. Lets see what you guys have for have other hobbies.

I keep ball pythons. One of the best snakes to have as a pet IMO, manageable size, easy to care for, and great temperament. Some of these pictures are from a breeder I know, and I take pictures for his ads. I only have 2 myself right now, but would love to have more once I get a bigger place and could have a joint RC/snake room!

I have a 32ft by 16ft HO scale railroad based on an 1870's logging operation in Washington and Oregon, roughly 100 cars and 15 locos.
I also work on my 76 trans-am with a stroked 400 up to a 462. Never raced it yet ( well, atleast not sanctioned :) and a 1972 Monte Carlo SS that my grandpa gave to me after my grandma passed, it was her car so I'm leaving it totally stock.
And finally my guns (technically my dads until I'm 21) I have an rock river arms AR15 a belgian (I think,no serial numbers or stampings) AK47,Remington 700,mossberg 500 & 590 a ruger super redhawk in .454 casul, plus multitudes of airsoft rifles and paintball guns for outdoor fun with friends.
Most of this stuff I don't even call a hobby anymore,I built the cars over a period of about 5 yrs at my dads bodyshop since I was about 13 and I got into guns through my grandpa as he is one he'll of a gun nut (and inadvertantly so am I !) and the model trains started with a Christmas set I had when I was 3, lol --Josh

I Love to be in the Ocean, Shooting fish or Boogie Boarding. Weekends I am either at the Beach or Tinkering with R/C. If it is raining; time for some good old video games.

On a more serious note. I play video games every one in a while (not waaaaaaaay as intensive as I used to be), I practice soccer, ballroom and latin dancing with my GF, I dropped Jeet Kune Do a while back but would love to pick that up again and I love watching a good movie or preferable a serie.

scarletboa 09.24.2010 07:05 PM

2 suriname red-tail boas
1 guyana red-tail boa (named scarlet, hence my username)
1 ball python
2 california kingsnakes

Experience

Well I consider myself a man of experience and have done many things throughout my life. I have scuba dived, raced dirt bikes, drag raced, ridden cross country biking, played in dart leagues, and bowling leagues, and have had more pets then I can even remember or care to mention. R/C was something that I had always wanted to do, but just could not afford it as a child or while I was growing up, nor did I really have the time for the investment. They all cost money in one way or another, and some cost much more than I care to be involved in nowa days. We also have a DVD collection of nearly 1000 movies, because of the international travel we do on the job it pays to have entertainment with you. My true passion is building things that I know will out last myself. Welding, woodworking, and just about any kind of construction is what keeps my interest. I just love creating works of art from nothing. I guess that is why I like building R/Cs so much. Because of our lifestyle I am limited somewhat on how much stuff we can move with, and sometimes it is difficult to acquire materials depending on what country we are living in.

Bondonutz 09.24.2010 09:37 PM

Fishing is my favorite thing, Tinkering with my Jeep, Drinking Beer and burning trees, Ebay and in the cooler months Metal Art/welding.

outside of r/c i used to enjoy building offshore race boats for a small company called Schiada boats in my college days. anymore though when im not workin on the power grids(which includes everything fom substations to transmission towers to wood pole distribution and underground) this is my other hobby::lol:

PBO 09.25.2010 05:00 AM

Nice boats slimthelineman. My son is going to start his racing career in a year or two so the "skills & handling" period is about to start with a 6hp wing boat. I'll be building a CF hull in the next few months...similar to this one. Aside from that boats are the profession & not so much the passion

http://www.uhpbc.net/JBAugustClubDay2010/oo6u9043.jpg

There's also time allocated for kids soccer, my daughters pony club, swimming squad & the never ending garden landscaping...do a bit of charity fund raising also

Cool hgobbies guys, always interesting to see what other people in different walks of life do for fun!

My current hobby is guns. I do not hunt, only target shoot. I like guns due to the wide variety of mechanical operating systems they use. Always cool to pull one apart and see the genius that goes into making something work!

Mainly focus on handguns, I have about 40 right now. I also like shotguns, mainly the ak based russian models. I am a great pistol shot, but need to work on my rifle shooting techniques.

Other hobbies include all manner of home and garden projects, welding, and the occasional custom paint job. Since I own a body shop and paint cars most of the time I am not so hot on doing that in my spare time. I have done car audio, engine building and sportbikes too.

Guns are great, the really hold their value, and will often go up in value in short time periods.

PBO: dude wicked hull man! that looks like so much fun it shouldn't be legal! boating is an awsome thing to grow up around. only bummer is there is no wake or tower to have even more fun with.

JERRY2KONE 09.26.2010 01:22 AM

Fun times.

Yea fun times come in all forms. I also love waterskiing, skimmerboarding, and almost anything on water, but rarely have the chance. I am a top marksman in pistol, and rifle, but do not own any guns myself. As long as we have kids living at home too much risk for my taste. I hope some day to be in a position to build my own classic vehicle from teh ground up. Maybe even create some of my own designs to make it extra special. I truly enjoy taking someone else's design and making it better. More power, more strength, and more impressive in any way.

Luckily have a friends with boats, best of the bunch would be the Mastercraft X2 I guess although I prefer the 2x250 hp Protector we use at work. Don't have a photo of it exactly but similar to this one. Goes through anything & when it's full of fuel & friends, has a good solid wake

Breakdancing

Nice Nice Nice. All great hobbies guys.

I tinker on my Nissan 720 minitruck. Having a family and busy work schedule, stopped me from being a minitrucker. Truck is parked now and saving for when my son gets older. His wish is to work on it when he gets older. I love motor vehicles in general and driving is what I do best.
Music is another hobby of mine and I'm a bit of an audiophile.
Photography is another one. I'm needing a new camera and waiting for the new Sony DSLR that uses a two way mirror.

First love

My first love was basketball growing up, and I used to love playing raquetball, but once you reach a certain age these things get to be just too dammed much work, but they are great sources of exercise. Anything that keeps you moving is a good thing, right???

PBO 09.26.2010 09:31 PM

Does that include walking between the fridge & the couch?

JERRY2KONE 09.26.2010 09:44 PM

You bet ya.

You bet ya, and don't foget the one armed curls as well. Got to keep those muscles pumped up. You can even things out by switching hands every so often so you don't get lopsided with too much bulk on one side.

slimthelineman 09.26.2010 10:06 PM

just double fist and get twice the pump in half the time! ha ha ha sorry couldn't help it...

Nice! Great vantage point, got the whole thing in the frame. Is really a neat place to see in person. Worked in hunters point a couple years back and me and the fam tooled around on the gate for a while one day. Very impressive structure. Made me want to climb it though....

BlackWood 09.27.2010 04:52 PM

Just like some members here, firearms are also another hobby I,m into. LMT AR15, Mossberg 590, SKS, acquiring parts for a AR15 pistol build lately. Getting back into archery as well, Oneida Aeroforce Bow.

Bondonutz 09.27.2010 05:55 PM

AR15 Pistol build ?
Can you please post links on this, I recently bought a buddy of mines and looking to do something "different" w/it now that I have 2.
Thanks,
J.

BlackWood 09.27.2010 06:55 PM

To build a AR pistol you have to start with a stripped receiver thats never been assembled into a rifle. thats the easiest way to start a pistol build. Luckily receivers prices are dropping after the panic buying from the long-legged mac daddy being elected. I'm building a pistol until I save up enough funds for a tax stamp, then I'm turning it into a SBR. I just cant decide what cal 5.56 or 6.8. I get most of info from AR15.com, just like this site the tech forums on there are full of great info. http://www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=3&f=122
