High speed buggy??
If I wanted to take back my high speed open wheel title what converted buggy or truggy have you guys used or recomend? I figured I would be better off with a buggy or truggy rather than another emaxx. Remember length would most likely help high speed stability.
|
the losi 8ights have seen about 105mph. that was the fastest recorded buggy i've seen on youtube.
|
DUH! I didnt even think to check youtube. Once again I think tires will be the issue. I wonder if losi still make those tires in your avatar dwight ?
|
nope...losi discontinued them 2 years ago. you can get them directly through GRP though.
http://www.grpgandini.it/index.php?p...chk=1&Itemid=6 the B soft compound is what i used. Shipping is $30, but they have them to your door in 3-5 days. |
They are GRP Rally Tires. Get em on Ebay (I did) or GRPGandini site.
+1 on the 8ight. But I would add a L8ight Bumper, and an 8ight-T chassis. They will all bolt right on. just need center CVs. With buggy arms, Truggy length chassis, Slammed like a L8ight (with wedge type body); Castle 1520 - 8s on the New MMMXL. I see 110+ mph easy... Buy em quick!! http://cgi.ebay.com/GRP-GM01C-D1C-Ra...item5adcf6d5e4 Edit: I just noticed they have the Sweet Spoked rims too! Lucky! |
|
Beau: Honestly, the best way to do it will be to basically buggy-ize your E-maxx. I would make a flat chassis with a center diff like the buggies do. I would then get 17mm adapters and run the GRP or Ofna tires. The Ofna's are really sticky!!
The reason I say this is because where buggies use a 3.30 fr/rr diff ratio where the stock emaxx is 2.73. This plays into your hand and helps with gearing. |
Believe me gearing was the least of my problems when doing my runs. I think on my final runs I was geared for over 120mph. Not to mention I was running UE 1/8 scale diffs also. Cant remember exact ratio though. Personally I think I had way too much power on 6s. I bet I could of went faster on 4 or 5s . Ofna onroad gtz or gtp (whatever it is ) went 113mph on 4s with mmm same motor and similer weight. nic case went 129 with a shumacher car on 3s and mmm.

Those cars were more aerodynamically sound as well... |
Besides the tires sticking out I believe mine was also. You know kinda like an indy car.

These tires are good, too. Ipanema Rubber Slicks
|
You think they can handle the centrifical forces of spinnin 100mph plus. I seen one of those losi tires split at speed and it flip the car on the lid and he went through the trap upside down.
|
I haven't seen a GRP tire split yet... 118mph so far on the GTP
|
Got any vids?

It's not my GTP. Beau you did see this car reach 112mph on the GRP tires. He has since sold the car to the LHS owner who has now reached the 118mph mark. I don't think he has it videoed. |

Ipanema Rubber Slicks
+1 for the Ipanema Rubber Slicks. I have a set of those for my GTP and they do exactly as advertised. Very grippy and has survived full throttle runs of my GTP geared 24/51 on 5s running a Flux 2200. I am looking to get my hands on a top of the line 6s and see what it can really do.
