1/10 Onroad/rally car?

I were sitting and looking at my Erbe, and I just thought, I want something fast, something that hauls on 4s, I want a 1/10scale brushless onroad/rally car.

When I was young a had a Kyosho Pure ten alpha Gp :

http://images.forum-auto.com/mesimag...2/DSCN4572.JPG

I miss it. Maybe I should buy one again and convert it to brushless?

I was thinking of this setup:

Esc: click

Motor: Click

Battery:Click

The problem is.... I donīt think the drivetrain will like this setup, or any brushless setup for that mather:whistle:

Does anyone have a other suggestion of car? Or know If someone have converted one of these? I like this one because it has a simple design, Itīs very cheap and I miss it:oops:

I have also been looking at some hpi models and the 4-tec but I want a more "rally style" car.

Feel free to shime in:whip:

See if you can scrounge up an used Tamiya tt01.

Manne 11.05.2010 11:16 AM

Yeah, or a new one from tower: click

But itīs a mess, I understand that there is differences, by looking at the price. But what is different betwen them?

Some have new plastic parts such as " New design, seperated gearbox and shocktower"

But how in the world am I going to know wich version that is best?:surprised:

I have tried to fint a "tamiya homepage" to look at the models but itīs a nightmare.

Finding out the difference between the hpi sprint to sport models, the sprint to flux and the e10 was easy as drinking a beer but on this one Iīm stuck.

And I donīt know where to get spare parts.. Tower doesnīt have them all I think...:whip:

Tamiya makes the DF03ra chassis which is specifically for rally purpose, that could work for what you're thinking about. Here's a link.

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXWXX9&P=SM

Of course there's also the Kyosho Inferno GT with the Subaru body, they can go insanely fast once converted to brushless, I know, I have one but that's 1/8 scale.

Also there's a crap load of hop-ups for the DF03ra on RCmart.com. You can use most of the hop-ups made for the DF03 also as this is the exact chassis the DF03ra is using, the only difference is the shocks/towers are shorter.

hooppjs 11.05.2010 06:12 PM

Plus one what IGT_7x said, the DF-03Ra. Here is the combo deal from rcmart -

http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/rc-tow...cPath=420_1167

Shame you got rid of the Pure Ten. We used to have them too and bring them to work on nightshifts. Hoon them around the car park for hours & get paid for it, lol. Ah the memories.

IGT_7x - Have you got a thread or pics of your GT anywhere? I'd like to see it?

Pete

IGT_7x 11.05.2010 06:16 PM

hooppjs – yes I do have pics, just search for Inferno GT in this forum & it should show up. I tell you what that car on 6s is a blast, you talk about a speed rush. Matter of fact I'm thinking of getting another one but this time the GT2 with the corvette body.

hooppjs 11.05.2010 06:17 PM

Manne,
Damn it, everytime I go to rcmart I buy something.

I'm going to try my hand at front wheel drive, the mighty mini.

What a sweet looking rig!

http://www.rcmart.com/catalog/rc-tam...cPath=420_1167

Overpowered, brushless front wheel drive time.

Manne 11.05.2010 06:28 PM

Thanks alot IGT_7x!

Balldiffs as standard sound good to me, Do you know if the outputs from the diffs are plastic or metal?

Maybe it doesnīt mather since I saw that there were upgrades available at rcmart.

Iīm a bit scared tho... I saw this: Bevel gear set

plaaastic...

Edit:

Hooppjs Haha thatīs life when you are addicted to Rc, I know how it feels....

IGT_7x: That rig of yours... Is one truely good looking piece of art! exactly what I want! Maybe I should just find myself a cheap second hand 1/8 nitro rally something...? Gaah itīs hard, this project is meant to be cheap:lol:

IGT_7x 11.05.2010 06:33 PM

Yes they are plastic...typical Tamiya. I have the DF03 Dark Impact which I converted to brushless Sidewinder/5700 combo & on 2s it seems to have no problems. I did however do a lot of upgrades to it including a carbon fiber chassis. I put it up on Ebay as I don't use it at all. Here's some pics.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...#ht_946wt_1141

As far as the IGT, you might be able to find one on Ebay cheap since the IGT2 is out. Plus they're built like a tank so it can take a beating. Thanks for the compliment!

hooppjs 11.05.2010 06:34 PM

Yep, just looking. That is beautiful as with ricemans.
The Kyosho 1/8's have come a long way since the GP20. I'd recommend these as well to Manne if 1/8 scale was ok. I have 5 GP20's I've collected over the decades.

Now, I was in the hobby shop the other day face to face with that GT2 with yellow corvette body. I stood there for 5 minutes staring at it. It is a big car.:gasp:

IGT_7x 11.05.2010 06:40 PM

Yes it is and the detail is amazing. But you haven't seen big till you've owned a HPI Baja 5t. I have one as well & it's a beast!!:surprised:

Manne – you should know by now that this hobby is never cheap

Manne 11.05.2010 06:44 PM

PLastic just wonīt do it for me:oops: The dark Impact was nice!

How about the sport to sprint?: hpi belt driven

The hpi E10 clickSeems to be a real beginners car, fragile, or?:whip:

With some other shocks and tires... And body:party:

IGT_7x 11.05.2010 06:50 PM

The HPI Sprint 2 is a nice car, I have one too (yes I know I have too many ) It's really smooth to drive since it's belt driven, but like any other rc there's some mods that you will have to do to make it run better. My setup has the Sidewinder/5700 combo & it hauls. Right now I have it setup to do drifting, wanted to try my hand on it. Forget the E10, that's a beginner car.

Manne 11.05.2010 06:55 PM

Thanks alot for the input:). What is the main modifications then?:whip:

Are the driveline holding up well?

I want to use so much juice that I can drift with regular "grippy" non drifting tires:lol: You think my current setup will be enough?

IGT_7x 11.05.2010 07:03 PM

Well, the first thing I would do is a little tricky, you will need a dremel or something similar because you will have to cut both the front & rear housing where the diffs are because rocks can get trapped there and the belts will snap. Also if you want it to drift you can lock the the rear diff, I used a glue gun & then change the front diff to a one way unit. With that setup it will perform pretty good. Right now I replaced some parts to aluminum & I also replaced the chassis to aluminum so it would add some heft to it. Oh yeah you probably want to replace the dampers to aluminum. As far as the bodies, there's a lot of body options, I just bought the HPI Lexus ISF body for mine.

hooppjs 11.05.2010 07:44 PM

Not sure if you guys know, but there is another forum about the GT/GT2 & Landmax here: http://forums.radiocontrolzone.com/f...play.php?f=345

We have written in there since 1000BC. You can ask for a second hand car as they often pop up. Most of em, like me, are die hard Kyosho nutters and would prefer to help you out rather than make profit. I have sent a heap of parts to the US, sometimes free, just to get a fan up and running. Works backwards for me with US, UK help.

Some of the brushless 1/8's were down many many years ago.

Manne 02.16.2011 07:21 PM

Well, Iīm here again, I want this project finished for the spring...And now I got a bigger budget to play with so I have started to think 1/8, It feels more controlable on 5 or 6s, Iīm thinking of using this esc instead wich I have in my revo:

http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...dProduct=10370

And this motor:

http://www.hobbycity.com/hobbyking/s...idProduct=6678

But on what platform!?

I have been thinking of:

subaru impreza body
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXLGB3&P=7

Hpi wheels:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=L5VGY002&P=7

Hpi tires:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...I=L5M97902&P=7

For the street and:

Hpi wheels:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXZPX9&P=7

Tamiya tires:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXGG35&P=7

For the rest.

A stock 1/16 scale mini revo/summit/slash/rally has a wheelbase of 21cm. If I extend it in the front with a traxxas cvd/integy/customparts hybrid It will be 26cm, perfect for that body and all other 200mm bodys.

If I go for this I will use the Old esc/motor combo I listed and run 4s.

But.... I want to build a 1/8 scale, feels more controllable at high speeds, feels more "real".

I want a platform that isnīt rare to find.... And I want it to be easy to find spare parts.. Thatīs why itīs tempting to build of a traxxas 1/16 chassis...I have built a few revos with alot of different setups, driven them for many hours so the reability of a build like that wouldnīt be a problem, itīs just that I want it bigger.....

Maybe this one?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXZBR8&P=7

Help a black man out.

phatmonk 02.16.2011 08:29 PM

Ofna has the 1/8 GTP it's a brushless specific onroad car.It comes as a rolling chassis.I had 1of these cars and it was a blast.

bdebde 02.16.2011 10:13 PM

THIS is the one you want. The other 1/8th you linked to is the dirt oval model... I believe it has a few "dirt oval" specific parts. The one I linked to is specifically for on road. I had a GTP as well, they are a blast!
