Video of Castle Creations 5b conversion kit!!!!
|
thanks for the vid
|
:whip:Awsome... i would buy one and convert it if they were 4wd :whip:
|
I agree with bryan, i wont bother getting a 5th scale to convert untill the hpi makes a 4x4 one
|
Check out the cover of this months RC Driver Magazine for the exclusive ;)

I think if we want a 4x4 baja we are going to have to make one ourselfs.
Now that BL power is avaible I think it will be much easier to do. If HPI does make a 4x4 baja if will favor the gas version use belts to get power tot eh front. There is a "knock off" company that makes a 4x4 baja and it uses belt drive to power the front wheels. You can find it on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/1-5-Scale-Gas-Po...item255eceb30b |
Why is CC using Maxamp lipos in the baja?

Based on the Savage Flux trailer I saw with MaxAmps batteries (Haven't seen many MaxAmps commercials.), you can pretty much expect 20-4+% more performance with HK batteries.
What size motor is that? 2200 Neu? |

Its so big - its actually pretty fun...
This is all Castle - The Mamba Monster XL and Castle 2028 motor... |
Do they use Mikes conversion kit?

No, Castle produced their own conversion kit- I wouldnt like to speculate which is better as they both look rock-solid, guess it comes down to pricing ( Castle esc, motor & conversion kit in one whole package vs RC-M conversion kit + Castle esc and motor ). |

this is for you guys that wanted a 4x4 baja. its even in roller format its a "knock off" of the hpi baja. Some parts fit and some dont. http://ozlargescale.com/index.php?topic=2511.0 old thread of a guy who has one that is still gas powered |
If they stick with the Baja platform yeah probably. MCD and Cen (or whatever they are rebadging as CEN) at very least have 4WD gas versions with dogbones that go through the gas tank.
I saved it off and don't remember the url, but I saw someone who modded their Baja to have belt driven 4WD. Rather shoddy, but at least the concept seems doable. I'm sure Mike could come up with a really nicely packaged conversion. Quote:

I agree - large scale 4wd is a must
|
Geeze guys off topic much?, Not many have driven brushless 5th scalers. the weight benefit is very noticable compared to that of a 10th scale buggy. Earlier today I got to drive this very car and it handled the power very, very well for the amount of power it had. Its not as bad as you would think.
thing weighs 25+ lbs. -Bb16 |
brushless boy
who are you talking too? Drive a brushless 5b, your right I haven't but I own a brushless 5t (30 lbs) with 12s and a neu 2220. Is that close enough for you? |

Now now gentleman.. Let's just share information as it is most helpful to all. Interesting to hear that a brushless 5b isn't so bad firsthand. I've read others who have posted their opinions to the contrary.
Now that belt-driven 4wd knock-off.. I think I'm going to pick up a roller and try a conversion with it. Can't hurt, can it? Anyone else think it would be a decent project? Hmm.. I wonder if Mike's kit will fit.. |

I plan on getting the 4x4 roller knockoff after Christmas. It will be worth it after seeing the power a large Neu motor can put out. I have Mikes kit on my 5t, and after looking at the pics of the Kalee 4x4 baja, we will need different side plates for sure. I plan on making the adjustable motor side plate, so that you can adjust the motor up and down instead of left to right to allow for running different size pinions and still keeping the gear adjustment right. Brushless boy, sorry about that post, I thought you meant that a BL baja was a waste of time, its not as you already know first hand. |
|
he look thats me! lol
car was fun to drive but watching chris almost poop himself plugging in the Mmm xl was better! And then Monster mike almost taking out the neighbors car while jumping the 5b.. Good times fellahs! |
That video was pretty disappointing. I'm sure the conversion is awesome though.

Conversion.
So looking at this plug the conversion kit comes with the MMM XL ESC and the 2028 motor, and just that costs about $500, right? So $1000 for the baja 5b, $500 for this kit, and what about $1000 for the all of the RCM aluminum conversion stuff, plus about $300-$400 for LiPos, so we are looking at a total cost of about $4000 to $5000 for this vehicle, right? WOW what a coin drop, and that does not even go into any real hopups that are available for this thing with wheels, and costomized anodized parts to increase durability. One could easily spend close to $10K building up a nice electric vehicle for a fun toy. Maybe next year???
Don't get me wrong I think this electric conversion kit is a great addition for the Baja 5b, and hopefully some day I can afford to take the plunge. |
Do you need the RCM conversion and the Castle conversion? Pretty sure you only need one.
|
Not sure.
Not sure of exactly what comes with the conversion kit from CC. I was thinkg that it was only the ESC and motor combo for $500, right? From RCM I was talking about the aluminum extended suspension upgrade setup and whatever else they offer.
|
Why buy all of that if you don't need it? Only stuff needed is $500 for esc and motor. $1000 for buggy (sell the brand new motor for a $150 or so), $600 for the CC conversion, $500 for lipos and a charger. Thats only $2600 with you keeping all the gas parts.
Upgrades outside of that are optional and can also be added to a non-conversion 5B. You could also buy a King Motors roller for $300 or RTR for $450. EDIT. I can't find any more rollers on ebay. Maybe they stopped selling them that way. |

The overall idea is to make your 5b bulletproof and rid yourself of a vehicle that requires any kind of fuel to run it as well as limiting reapirs due to plastic parts breakage. Or if you just don't want to spend that much money, then go to Radioshack and get yourself one of those $100-$200 cheapo R/C vehicles and have at it. |
Maybe you missed it, but this thread is in the BRUSHLESS FORUM.
The idea is to make a brushless baja 5b that can outrun a gas one. Castle Creations isn't marketing anything more than a brushless conversion. To do what that baja did in the video cost no more than $2600. That's that. |
