1/6th scale On-Road Razer project
Hi this is my current build it was a Duratrax Raze buggy and i fabricated a simple chassis for it and drilled some holes lol, i used a savage flux 5b drive shaft from TCS and RCM's mounts for the raze its almost done i just have to make some chassis supports and a few finishing touches. I did test drive it and it came out pretty good and really fast. The only problem is the tires and wheels, I was currently running proline buggy road rage tires and all i can say is they suck, I was running 5s 20/45 and they turned into pizza cutters and 1 ripped open down the middle!!! The street was a little wet so that might of helped cause the extreme wear. So now I need ur guys help to find some really good tires/wheels that will hold up to the abuse im pretty much just doing speed runs, drag racing and a little drifting. I was about to buy a pair of 3s lipos but its pretty damm fast right now and i still havnt tested it with the 25 tooth pinion lol
Here are some pics it started as this http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...rablmmm003.jpg then http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...4/razer002.jpg then this, the batt box wasnt mounted at the time http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...4/razer005.jpg and here is the road rage tire http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...4/razer008.jpg sorry for the bad quality pics didnt have my good camera at the time thanks for looking!!! |
the ipanema tires are the best on road tires. Road rages suck, regardless of the tire type, I have had a few of them come apart. A few companies make hard foam tires for 1/8 scale buggies, and there are a few different rubber tires that work well too.
Looks like a cool build. Do you have any current pics? Did you make a rear chassis brace to sturdy up the rear of the chassis? |
the 2nd last pic is the current one. can i have some links to the tires u recommend??will foams last if im pretty hard on the throttle(drag racing)?? and the chassis supports are next on my list.
Thanks, Miguel |
which ones are the the slick or the radials??
|
anything a little cheaper?
|
Not sure how the foams will hold up... I think grp make a rubber tire that may work. Losi have some sort of tire that everyone likes for on road, someone will chime in and tell you, think it may be a rally tire?
|
Losi used to sell GRP tires branded as their own, and they were "rally" tires on white spoke rims (GRP), those were the good ones. The "rally", onroad 1/8 tires they sell now suck. They are premounts on yellow dish wheels, they turn to pizza cutters easily, have tons of sidewalk flex, but they do grip asphalt pretty good. I don't have any links for the ipanema or GRP, but they are on eBay and elsewhere.
Edit, nice project. |
thanks overdriven are u talking about these??

are these any good???

Yes, those are the GRP tires. Thats the first time I've seen them mounted on Kyosho wheels though, thought they were only availible on GRP wheels (spoked and dish). Either way those are them and I doubt you'll find them not premounted to a wheel. I've never tried them on my own vehicle, but I did get a quick test drive on a losi 8eight and they seemed nice. Alot of guys rave about them and the ipanema. I'll be getting a set for my buggy when the weather warms back up.

How long is that TCS driveshaft btw?
|
Ok I will get those but are they that much smaller in diameter then the road rages?? And I will measure the drive shaft tomorrow
|
well today i found another problem the diffs!! i keep going through the raze front diffs even though they are shimmed pretty good can anybody tell me whats a more durable upgrade for the raze??
|
will 2 of these work???

Slick build Mac. With that much room why not a bigger motor?
|
because bigger motor = lower kv and i want to go fast!! lol & thanks
|
If you want to go fast I would say bigger motor and higher voltage battery setup (to make up for the lower kv as you mentioned).
|
Ok what will be faster a 1518 on 6s or 1515 on 5s???
|
Either on 6s would suffice. You could probably gear higher on the 1518 and get some more speed out of it, but you'll get more rpm's with the 1515. Not sure really those motors are close competitors.
With all that room I would run two 3s packs. Any word on those diffs? |
Yea for drag racing I'll be running 25/47 on 5s and once it gets warm again I'll buy a pair of 3s Lipos I'm aiming for 70? Do u think it's possible?? And my diffs and fluid should be here tomorrow
|
went for a quick run on 5s with my new tires:http://cgi.ebay.com/NIB-On-road-Slic...item4839bf213c
So far i can say they are really good because they don't Balloon?!?!?! But i cant say anything about them having good traction because the snow just melted and the streets were still wet. I couldn't do a good drag drag run because if a hammered the throttle it would just be burning out endlessly, so hopefully when the street dries i can get traction and get a good run http://i280.photobucket.com/albums/k...3194/5s002.jpg |
Cool build Mac, like I said I may have to hit you up for one of those chassis to build something similar with the extra buggy I have. I even have a spare 2650 and mmm that could power it.
Still interested in seeing what sort of lid you come up with for this thing. |
i have kno idea what kind of lid i can get for this but it roughly has a 22" wheelbase... any ideas??
|
Thats close enough for a HPI baja, either the truck or the buggy as they are 22.5" wheelbase. FG, MCD, Redcat are all around 20" btw.

The Baja buggy body isn't that expensive is it? Look on eBay for the Baja clone bodies, should be a bunch cheaper either way. I think fg/mcd onroad bodies are 535mm wheelbase.
|
For an on road car?

I have been wondering about those tires. Thinking about picking some up myself. How is the rubber compound? I have some of the Supra Sales off-road tires and the compound is very firm. Good for bashing and long wear but probably not too good for racing. Would you say the slick on-road tires are pretty firm too? I wish they also had a treaded/radial type on-road tire! |
They are pretty firm but they are really good for high speeds and drifting since they dnt balloon they also provide "ok" traction but for 20$ shipped u can't beat that!
|
I'll probably give them a try. Wish you could get them with the spoked rims though.
|
yea, there definitely worth a try
