My new project . . . I just gotta set this bad boy up
Here is the link to the truck that I just bought on ebay. As soon as I get it I'm gonna strip it and clean it, then work on figuring out how I am going to mount the brushless motor, controller, and where the batteries are going to go. I'm thinking about putting a nemesis 8L, or 8s motor with a 9920 controller. I just haven't decided for sure which motor to put in it. Any advice would be helpful. This will be my first "small" scale brushless project (My other project is a savage that is converted over to BL) So I'm not quite sure what the motor and controller set up is or how many batteries to run.
Thanks guys, Here is the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...tem=6052251485 |
How many cells do you want to run? For a motor on anywhere from 14-18 cells, how about an 8XL or a 9XL? The 8L would run very hot on any cell count, and the 8s simply isn't enough.
BTW, the Hellfire is the same scale as the Savage, it's just more race-bred. |
It has a center diff and 3.31 diff ratio I believe. I think the 8L would have to much kv for it. I would suggest a 9xl or something.
O ok, I didn't know the hellfire is the same scale as the savage. I'm running a 9L in my savage with a 9920 controller on 14 cells and I like the power that it has. I will be better able to judge the number of cells that I want once I get it so I can see how much room I'm going to have for cells. But I think it will probably be like 12 to 14.
keep us informed on the build I may have a hell fire comming too
you will have PLENTY of room for cells. truggys are very long. if im not mistaken serum converted a hot bodies lightning stadium pro, same as i have, and he used a 8 cell stickpacks on each side with a xl motor.
I was looking at KV ratings for the different motors and I don't think I would want to run more than like 14 cells in it because of weight. I will be able to tell better when I get the truck and see how much room I have to work with. But I will definitely keep the page updated as to how it goes. I'm going to be making the motor mount and the battery hold downs out of composite materials from where I work. It's tensile strength is stronger than steel and weighs next to nothing.
Thanks for all the help guys |
I can only find a10xl in the nemesis motors, but I will just have to look around and compare some different things to see what I'm going to get. The truck should be here on Thrusday of next week.

The wanderers mike sells are the same as nemisis. Just has the 5.5 mm plugs on them for you.
Where/How can I get ahold of Mike?
Just throw him an email or sent him a PM.
I would email him. rcmonstermike@gmail.com

nitro is better though. ....www.rcpics.net/member/nrustler3
actually, nitro isnt really better... if you have EVER seen or driven a brushless rc you would sell your nitro rustler for a electric....
Yah, I would agree that Brushless is better than Nitro, but I love my nitro for long bashing sessions. Can't top the power of my brushless though.
It is an age old fight. some like the nitro others like electric. They both have ups and downs. I think it is nice to have both. That away you can have a choice of the day to play with.
bl is better
Some like both and some like only one kind, lets not turn this thread into a war of words betweent the two different types of power.
This should be a neat project, you may need to get creative mounting stuff on that chassis it is long but kinda narrow, I thought about that truck before I got the jammin crt instead, it can be done no doubt and it is sure to be badass, good luck
ya making brackets won't be hard because I work for a company that makes composites and the boss has already said I can make parts from the scrap when I am not on the clock. It's still two days till I get it, I'm getting impatient. :)
I got the truck the other day, and started taking off everything that I'm not going to need for the brushless setup. So now I am trying to find out where I am going to put the batteries, because the chasis is just barely wide enough on one side to mount them but there isn't enough room on the other side. And the rx box is in the way of just about anywhere I would like to mount them.
I have already made the motor mount bracket I just have to do a little more trimming before it is ready to go on. And the speed controller bracket will be done soon also. If anybody has any ideas or suggestions on where the batteries could go it would be greatly appreciated. Derek |
i would get rid of the reciever box.
Hi Bigdaddy!
I haven't seen this thread for a while.. Well, i don't know about the hellfire, i haven't looked at it's exploded views, but with the HB lightning i did, the problem was that the centerdiff was off-center.. i made a 5 mm thick plate, that centered that little bugger right in the middle of the frame, enabling me to have the batteries on eacht side. I dished the RCbox, you don't want to work around it. I also replaced the steering servo, and i don't know if you are planning on using the mechanical brakes. Because in general, pictures tell more than thousand words; here are a few pics to give you an idea of how i managed the batteries.. I hope they can be of any help. |
When I did a buggy. I had to lose the receiver box. Look around at some of the buggies to get you an idea. It has the center diff in it like the buggies.
Thanks serum that really helped. Ya the center diff is off center so it won't be anything to make a little bracket to move that thing back to where I'm gonna need it. The motor mount I made holds the motor in the same spot as yours but I hadn't seen your pics. I guess great minds really think alike. :)
What is your set up on that truck serum, and what is your gearing? Thanks for all the help guys. |
Well, it uses a 12/51 spur/pinion and the Hotbodies has got this nice diff combo, they are 10/43 instead of 13/43.
It uses a 7XL on 16 cells. The current owner is very happy with it. |
I sounds like a nice set up.
Did you test it out first? What was your thoughts of it rene? |
I tried it with a 10/51 and 12/51 on 10/51 it was crazy in terms of acceleration.
Topspeed was not too high though, nice for bashing and racing though. the 12/51 was a nice average, still not too fast, about 35-40 mph bit with a nice punch in acceleration, that was with 50K centerdiff oil. It just took off with acceleration, it was fun to drive, suspension was a bit too soft imo, but i think the current owner changed the springs. |
It looked fast in the video of it. I was curious for my projects. What size tire did you run on it in testing?
40 series bowties, with 14mm dish rimms.
that thing moves for sure. |
Why did you deside to sell it? I was thinking of converting mine.
Actually, it was never mine, i converted it for Gerben, actually, he was the one that introduced me to rc-monster.
He owned it for about 1 month, and then another guy from Holland bought it from him.. He wrecked a few cvd's on it, so i guess the power is quite something. |
IT IS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! *maniacal and evil laughter*
Well I couldn't decide which system exactly to get for the truck so I took the 10l/9918 out of my savage and hooked it all up today. I got two quick runs in before it was just too dark. After adjusting the spacing between the pinion gear and spur to get rid of the sparking (yikes) It straight hauls. I had a hard time seeing it as it passed lighted and unlighted areas in the street. I was running it on 14 GP3300 they were not fully charged because I used them about half way last time I ran my savage. It is the stock gearing and I believe a 12 tooth pinion, it's been awhile I will have to count teeth to make sure. The motor got a little hot at the end of the run but I could still hold the motor in my hand for about 5 to 7 seconds before it got HOT. I will probably work on the gearing some this weekend to see what I can do with it. It doesn't wheelie off the line but it will spin the tires like it's nothing. The handling of the hellfire is unbelievable. It is the most responsive truck I have driven. I will have to try and get some pictures posted later tomorrow after work. If I can still use my old hosting site. Thanks for all the help guys, it is a wicked truck. BIG D |
sounds good
get a few pics |
So what are you planning on putting on it? It sounds like could be a fun driver.
I think I will just leave it with the set up I have now. I might get some 4300 to try in it and see how that works. I will work on putting some pictures up when I get off of work.
Get the IB4200s. They Hold there voltage better under load and will charge higher or just as high in mah. Voltage might be higher with the 4300s but thats actually kinda typical with cheaper cells thats voltage drops off under load.
Sorry for the long delay with the pictures but here they are. . .. . . drumroll.
