I can see why they came up with this idea, and part of me wants to say 'ha, that's kinda clever really'- but in reality, fast electric boats are very demanding of the electronics, the batteries in particular- you simply can't water cool average or crappy lipos and hope that'll make the boat run better. You gotta spend the money on better equipment that would never need such elaborate cooling to start with.

If only they could sell a lipo without the heat of those blue flame stickers.

Most boat guys I know warm their packs up before running. No one is looking for cooler cell temps

Packs with a "True" High C rate don't get hot!

Oh I forgot! Those over-rated, over-priced, over-advertised packs are only 10C cells to begin with!

I thought their packs were waterproof? So that would reneder their cells impervious to water and its cooling effects? I think they have somehow found a way around the 2nd law of thermodynamics. I bet they spent alot of R&D on this... Good for them, hopefully they can find a way around the theory of relativity soon, cause I would really like to leave the galaxy next week for vacation.

Wow....This to me sounds like the last desperate attempt to sell a few more, but now super expensive packs, optional pump and even lower grade cells (Might be why they need cooling) before MA goes bankrupt. What will cooling just the top and bottom of the cells going to do anyways? They should've added a cooling plate in between the cells as well. I can also see many failures if the cooling hose gets loose and water just floods things a bit :lol:. If anyone knows a moron/idiot that buys them, please post the info here.

If they were really even close to 150C then they wouldnt need water cooling. But ya, true 8C batteries like those need all the cooling they can get.

bet a bog standard cheap 5200mah 30c hobbyking hardcase kicks its butt on runtime punch and lower temps

if they sold lipos where i live our consumer laws would have bankrupted them long ago all hype no performance

It was a typo, not true 150C but true 15C....They just ran with it because their editor doesn't know any better!

...or they forgot that pesky decimal point. Maybe it should have read 15.0C? Or even 1.50C?

Oil is a much safer option for cooling electronics. So how about Oil cooled water.

Where were they in the days that I was running some 3800mah tenergy nimh packs on my aquacraft supervee. Some guy had posted he needed oven mitts to take them out of his boat. This would have been perfect. Its not to late MA, Tenergy still sells them, add the water cooling and you could have something there.

I think Maxamps could really market this idea if they change their stradegy a little bit.

Advertise this as a gimmick to save your boat when your packs catch on fire! :lol:

Add a couple of jets and a heat sensor and you have a fire suppression system for when the esc blows up

Hey now, it's a Castle esc and motor in them now, if it blows up it's going to be from using MA packs!

Really? I thought my last one blew because I used cheap AA's in the controller!

We are well aware of MA's inflated ratings here at RC-M, there is a whole thread about the non watercooled packs with the same ratings.

Not only is 150C/975A an inflated rating but who has a setup pulling that much power that could test it?

In reality if we can get packs that are capable of handling 200A bursts and 100A continuous it would be adequate for 99% of the setups out there. Some boat guys might be pushing more than that on large speed run boats but thats about it.

How about a pump to relieve the pressure in the cells after the puff ?

Not to mention, who here believes a 12awg wire can support that kind of current?

All of you are out of your mind if you are not jumping in line like me to get these fantastic cells at an amazing price. I for one will be removing that pesky 2009 115hp johnson ocean pro form my 20' center consol boat ASAP in favor of 6 matched packs with the cooling pumps routed through an old garden water wand set to soaker for hellcat speeds on the open seas. Make no mistake these cells have so much power you need not even use a motor just tape them to your hull and watch the water part before your very eyes!!!

I understand why someone would use water cooling for the motor & esc/controller.But for batts?:no: .Seems to me maxamps is the biggest rip off of all.They was popular when they started,but I barely see anyone using their packs anymore.And from what I read in the forums throughout the years,their all about marketing & lying about the quality of their products:yes:

Not to side with MA but I think this actually makes sense. If anyone remembers when the E-revo first came out there was a lot of concern about the lipos being sealed and not getting any airflow to help keep them cool. Those concerns where justified and warranted, many people had issues including me. I modified the air intakes on the battery compartments and it helped by allowing air to flow over the batteries more easily. In a boat there is ZERO airlow and no way to get airflow. Even a fan would only circulate hot air over them. The constant current draw in a boat puts a huge load on batteries and they get warm, keeping them cooler would be better for them. However cooling batteries to mask the fact that they aren't capable isn't going to help but keeping an adequate lipo cooler should be better for it.
