Country Maxx
Okay so I ordered up my chassis.
I went with the FLM chassis this time. I got transmission off of ebay as well. I went with the 2 speed summit transmission for this project. I haven't decided on motor yet. Will run the Castle MMM though no matter the motor. I was thinking of picking up a 1515 castle motor to run on it. I can always just use my 1512 2.5d motor I have. I get pics as I build. Still debating on bulks to run as well. |
Well found a great deal on a motor and esc for truck.
Got them headed my way as well. Picked up the castle brushless system off a 3908 emaxx. I kind of liked the black motor and the esc mount as well. |
I too like those black motors, nice to have something other than green for a build. I am wanting one of the black motor systems for my other UE build as well. So what made you decide for a Summit trans instead of using a RCM center mount? I just got a set of FLM bulks to run on a basher truck and they are pretty nice.
What diffs are you going to use? |
At current time I just put the stock diffs with aluminum housing.
I don't think it will hold if push it to hard. My motor has arrived and it looks good. I still have not ran a MMM esc yet. I put my new plugs on esc today and mounted motor to mount. I got a set of truggy diffs but not sure to use for this or another future project. |
I know alot of people have had issues with the Traxxas diff gears. In my experience, if shimmed properly and in aluminum housings they hold up better than you think. I've blown 3 sets of Traxxas gears over the years, 1 due to bearing failure. 1 was never checked or maintained after initial setup and ate itself in it's 3rd season. The other was a well used truck to begin with and lasted only a few runs before it started complaining.
The FLM hybrids are a really good option though, i like mine alot. I'd run some numbers through the gear calc though before settling on the truggy gears. Truggy gears with a trans makes for a really low gear ratio, perfect if you want to run some really big tires though. Btw, with a Emaxx motor plate on the trans, a 65t spur (68t stock) needs a pinion 19t or greater pinion to mesh properly as a castle motor hits the trans housing with anything smaller. |
I will be running the summit mount for motor.
It be on other side of transmission. :) As far as tire hieght they will be kind of large. I got one set close to 7 inches tall. |
The summit/Revo mount does give you alot more gearing options than the Emaxx mount. Should look really cool with the motor down low in the rear. I think you might need a UE monoblock or some sort of chassis extension to get enough room for the motor though. Can't wait to see some pics.
|
Got the motor and gears in.
Waiting on chassis now. I am curious to how it will all turn out. 4s lipo should make it move along nicely. I am going with the newer style chassis. Looks like the trans if farther foward then older style. I hope my UE servo saver works though. |
black motors are where its at
|
I don't mind the green.
Just like the looks of the black better. Just waiting for chassis and such to come in. |
Okay got my chassis today.
Wow are these lighter then the first designs. Now for my problem. I got the newer style chassis but seems my UE servo saver will not work. It is to tall. Does anyone tried this or know of a easy fix? Do I need to sell it off and get the newer maxx steering setup? |
Ue servo saver does fit.
Just had to remove the top spacers off it. Doh! |
Does anyone know if someone makes a battery tray to fit the FLM 10900 chassis?
I want to put lipos in them to feel more secure about not losing them. Thoughts of things to do if not. I checked the store and nothing listed in there. |
On other peoples trucks.
Anyone hook up the 2 speed servo? If so do you have a pic of how? |
Took a couple pics today finally

On a stock chassis the servo sits in a pocket molded into the chassis. FLM may habe a mount, otherwise you may have to make one. I've seen some people use a RC-Monster battery tray attached to the FLM chassis to secure their lipos better.
Are you going to try and keep the motor up front or turn the trans around so it's in the rear? Looks kinda tight for mounting up front, the servo can be swapped to the other side easy enough, but will the motor hit the bulkheads by the shock tower? |
Well I was going trans flipped but will hit the esc and have to gring the chassis for spur gear.
It is to tight to the front so need to get another mount. Was looking at the one mike has in the store but not sure yet. I have to see what I can come up with for servo mount. Have to pick up the micro servo and linkage for it first. Regular servo seems a little large to put in between trans and esc. |
Definitely go micro on the servo, no need for anything bigger plus they have only 2 mounting holes instead of 4 making things a little easier.
How much room do you need to mount the motor up front? Can you grind down the summit mount to move the motor back a bit? I was going to do that on my e-Revo to squeeze a 1520 in it without hitting the shock mount. Just make sure you can get the pinion on the motor and mesh right before you shave the mount down. Also if you mount the spur backwards it'll give you more room to shave the mount down more. I forget how much room you can get if you do all this, but it's something to look into. Would look neater with the motor up front than the esc, plus I like having as much weight up front in my Maxx trucks, seems to help on power steering and suits my driving style better. |
I actually had the motor on there.
It fits but would need to move esc up front too. It starts looking all jumbled in one area then. I don't want to much weight in nose cause may roll over forward on brakes. I think go with single motor mount and put over trans. |
I found me a few flame stickers I had bought long ago.
I figure what the heck and added them to body to break it up a little. What do you think? http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...Emaxx001-1.jpg |
I had issues with my shocks after checking them out.
The shocks would bottom out before the skid plates would. I searched around through the many parts and found some thing. I removed the UE shocks. I went back to a 8 shock set up. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...Emaxx002-1.jpg |
Measurement on shocks are
UE 120 mm long New shocks are 135 mm long They seem to compress down to only 5mm longer fully compressed Gives me a lot of wheel travel now. More ground clearance as well. Can't wait to see how it handles with these on it. More parts coming in tomorrow. |
Parts come in today.
I got the micro servo mounted up and functional. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...Emaxx001-2.jpg Motor mount and box come in as well so got the receiver in box and wires ran. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...Emaxx002-2.jpg I hope tomorrow may take out for a short test drive and see what happens. |
Well today was test day.
I was pleased with how it handled. Sad to say the truck did not survive. Broke bulkheads and a shocks in rear. Back to ordering a few parts to fix it again. |
I got my parts and such in today.
Will try to get more photos later. Mounted some battery holders on chassis. |
New tires are mounted up.
Proline Trenchers is what I went with. They feel pretty light for there size. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...LMEmaxx004.jpg Since I broke up some of the shocks on last run I went back to 4. I did some spring modification on them. maybe not prefect but works well it seems. http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m...LMEmaxx003.jpg |
how many S battery are you running on it and what kinda performance do you get? Hows torque and top end delivery?
|
I am only running 2 x 2s pack for 4s total.
I haven't tried the 6s on it yet. Gearing at moment is 20/68. It moves pretty good and torque is good. I have punch control on though to keep it a little tame. I like the super low range in 1st gear for the hill climbs and such. It is just a matter of time before the diffs give me troubles though. Back seems pretty strong but front is set for fail without the center diff. Front stock and rear is aluminum house with flm cup with the 3mm screws. |
Your new rims and tires are sweet. I love those new Trenchers. That is cool you kept the 2 spd. for lower speed climbing. Nice work man!
|
Thanks for the compliments!
I mounted the trenchers on the Geode rims for the bead lock look. They are lighter then I expected for a large meaty tire. I am happy with the new design of my maxx I have. The new tranny is awesome with the extra low gearing. I went with the wide ratio instead of close. |
I pulled out some of my 2 x 3s packs today.
Just to test it out and see how it would do. Was awesome powerful. Broke another shock up though and heard some noise from the rear. I guess need to search for some 1/8 diffs if keep running 6s. I changed my firmware back to the 1.24 version. It seems to have a smoother take off then the 1.32. Anyone else notice this. Think I remember seeing a thread about it. |
sorry i didnt go all the way through your thread, but what diffs did you currently have, and have you thought about the ofna ones since they can be had pretty cheap?
|
I have leaned towards them but I need the cases and such.
I actually have a set of diffs here to go in it but no housings. I run it until finishes. |
