Help me build the DREAM EMaxx
I got the chassis on the way guys.
http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...lm10700&cat=31 Now, I need your input on what needs to go into this truck. Here's what I'm thinking. I have a pair of fastlane machine Hybrid bulks. Gonna need some tough gears for this one. I'm thinking really hard about going with a Castle Mamba XL esc for power handling. Then power it with a pair of 4S 5000mah packs. This chassis will accept them for some 8S fun! The spinning toaster shall be a Castle 1717 that I've been saving. Plans are to use Mod 1 gears for toughness. I have some purple RPM arms that would be well suited for this truck. We need some cvd's. We need some bullet proof shock towers. I also have a feeling the stock 14mm hexes just won't be enough. What wheels and tires do we need for the bashing? Join in here guys. I'll post pictures as things progress. Your input is appreciated. |
If you are up for a little bit of modding ( just a little ), then the LST cvd upgrade would be unbeatable pretty much:
http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...=1#post4633281 http://traxxas.com/forums/showthread...=1#post4864749 FLM shock towers or UE knuckleheads for towers, kinda hard to beat really. If you go with the LST cvds, then that opens up a whole range of buggy/truggy 17mm hexes I believe- plenty to choose from there + various offsets. I like my axial terra-rizer tires & 8 spoke oversized ( 40 series ) rims, kinda like bowties pretty much. You may prefer something more aggressive like Badlands or the new Trencher X things- depends on the terrain and personal taste if there is no shortage of power to spin them  |
I'd go with UE Knucklehead towers - Beef.
The Traxxas CVD are also very good - Beef. on 8s and 1717 I'd go 40 series bow-tie or some sort of truggy small lug tire(crimefighter) My 1717 and 6s in my Maxx just is plain uncontrollable with any big lug tire(badland or zombiemaxx) Upgrade Your Toe Links! CHECK POST #7 #8 AND #9. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...ht=al+ball+end The stock ball ends are SOO weak and probabaly broke 20 or so before I upgraded to Ofna Ball ends. Never broken one and the upgrade is very cheap to do... |

You may consider a mono block chassis extension as well.

hey if cen7.7 diffs fit I would go for hpi bp diffs. strongest 1:8 diff i know of

I am not so keen on RPM arms up front. The truetracks are great for the rears as long as your suspension isn't raised high enough to let the cvds pop out of the cups. For the front I would prefer FLM arms. I've had both. I run FLM on the front and truetracks in the rear now. RPM arms bend hinge pins in the front sometimes. Good aluminum will keep hinge pins intact much better. I would get the FLM arms for the sole purpose of getting the hinge pin brace to use on whatever arms.
I meant to post this here and not in THIS thread. lol |
here you go
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/IMG_0261.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...s/IMG_0260.jpg they fit the LST, and LST fir the emaxx so the fit, like everythin it may need alittle work lol as for diffs either cen or HPI BP diffs would be great, LST diffs are fine, but like any diif if they arent shimmed well they will fail |
Should I get the Traxxas Center Diff for this truck?
I know it would improve handling somewhat, but my fear is, unloading huge amounts to the front end. |
I'd pass- the traxxas CD needs to be filled with cement to stop the front wheels unloading still; next best option is to modify a 1/8 CD to fit instead like MisterCrash did:

Heres one in my e-maxx... http://i288.photobucket.com/albums/l..._/white011.jpg |
ofna spider
looks like ofna spider in the center do you have them in your diffs to? best diffs hand down (if you shim them right) cost $$$ but you get what you pay for imo

Should we put the badland tires on this truck? :intello:
|
Badlands is the way to go, stretched over rulux wheels and glued on the inner bead. Coolest wheels IMO for both truggies and revo/maxx MT's.
Thomas G |
Thomas - They re-did the Badlands, They are now 3.7" ID.
EDIT: They fit the Traxxas wheels now LAME~! I thought they would fit the LPR style wheels. WTF is with that? |
I do believe they are coming out with a non Traxxas style bead on the Badlands. I remember getting an e-mail a few months back from Proline.

Don't tempt me! :whip: The thing about it is, I seen Bondo build a really nice truck using a 1717. He posted a video demonstrating it's power. I do believe the 1717 is an awesome powerhouse, from what I seen. |

How does it run Harold? I've had a 1717 sitting on my shelf for a long time. Brand new, never mounted. I'm really itching to try it out. Everything I've seen points toward it being a pretty good powerhouse. |

But, you may want to reconsider something else other than the Mamba XL. I purchased 3 brand new to run a Neu 1527 motor and she puffed up on plug in. So, I had sent all three to Castle (two of which had never been used). Maybe you may have better luck with the new revision... I would definitely recommend the RCM CD as well. Stock tranny suck Ballz, even with the upgraded metal gears, bearings, metal case. The CD is much better, as you would have less play. |

I'm still waiting on some feedback. |
A Box arrived today! :yipi:
Hmmmm............Looks like 40 Series Beadlocks with 23mm hexes. I wonder........hmmm.........maybe put these on the new truck? http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...m/DSC08767.jpg |

Should these tires be taped? IF so, what kind of tape?
I was thinking about that Black Gorilla Tape. Extra Sticky and Strong. 2 full wraps? http://i160.photobucket.com/albums/t...m/DSC08768.jpg |
Quote:
My savage: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...esavage+thread 2 wraps of the tape should work. On a side note, my emaxx I pictured now has a mamba xl and I run a neu 1521 on 8s. At 30mph I punched it and did a complete backflip and kept on going:intello: My emaxx: http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/show...ight=cybermaxx |
Dude, I'm about to bring my E-maxx back to life... I have you to thank for spending more $$$... :)

I see you like the Beadlocks too. This is the first set that I've owned, but the thought of no glue is appealing to me. Nice Emaxx you have there too. Sounds like power overkill in the 1717 and the 1521. Here's a thought for you............ I have a collection of motors, both inrunner and outrunner type. In my collection are several Medusa motors. Remember them? How about a Medusa 3660 1500kv motor on 8S? Makes me wonder. |

What is your setup?? |

I think the pin holding my 2nd gear has snapped, and I think my UE Spyder 8's are starting to slip. I'm thinking of getting all new Fastlane parts with CEN Diffs and RCM's Center Diff. I just finished putting 2 couches inside the new hobby room. I plan on spending lot's of time this year. I've been following a few threads and ready to spend some change... Not sure about wheels yet, I'm looking for Aluminum bead lock rims. As for Motor and ESC, I will drop in either my spare Castle 1717, NEU 1527, LMT 2250 HA or LMT 2280 HA. ESC maybe MGM 250A63V or another Mamba XL. I have too many Motors and ESCs laying around, and not enough vehicles to put them into.. |
Quote:
I imagine geared for about 40 that motor would work great on 8s. It does lack the mass of a 1717 or similar, and wouldn't be as "over the top" but it would definitely be a good setup. Most were using the 70 and 80mm versions on monster trucks. Who knows till you try:neutral: The temp gun will tell the tale:yes: |

I was running one of my Medusa 3660 1500kv motors in a E Revo and it kept snapping the driveshafts. Here is the thread on it. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15934 ALOT of really good torque, even on 4S. Geared properly, it would be fun on HV. |

When you said driveshafts I thought you were breaking real parts, not trx sliders:na: |
