UE Supershocks vs Powerstrokes

Need help deciding whick shock setup would be best for my 12lb Ext. G-Maxx. Is it best to use the bypass system or all 8 spring loaded shocks on the Powerstrokes?

cabking 05.19.2006 06:22 AM

Its all here dude http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2489

squeeforever 05.19.2006 01:55 PM

I would recommend the Proline.

Papa 05.19.2006 02:53 PM

I highly recomend the UE supershocks. Not even in the same category.

coolhandcountry 05.19.2006 04:36 PM

The 8 ue work great on a 14lb emaxx. Love them. Have never ran the proline though.

giftacrylic 05.19.2006 06:29 PM

I have the MSR5's and they don't dampen enough (I have also bent 4 shock shafts in 6 trips to the track). Not to mention bottoming out hard! I am leaning toward the Supershocks b/c I race a XI-CRT with a OS30 and I love the suspension and handling.

Papa, have you EVER had the Proline powerstroke shocks? I'm leaning towards no....The quality alone is superb and I think if you just looked at a Powerstroke up close then you wouldn't say that. A UE isn't nothing but a Ofna just like there diffs....Anyhow, I'm sure if you know what you were talking about when it came to the Powerstrokes then you wouldn't say that they weren't even in the same category and possible, there not...but not like you said it. I would have to say that the Powerstrokes are better than the UE and not visa versa.

Papa 05.19.2006 09:11 PM

No, I have not owned proline super shocks. Although I have driven a few Maxx's equiped with them. The "Ofna" shocks are arguably the best shocks on the market. Why else would owners of X-ray, Mugen , Kyosho, Jammin be choosing them for there competition race trucks. TheUe version has Titanium Nitride coated hardened steel Ø3.5mm shafts unlike the Ofna version. What happens to the anodizing on the inside of the powerstroke shocks as it where's off? Perhaps your right, not the same category does sound harsh. The power strokes are far superior to the stock Traxxas shocks.

Mike.L 05.19.2006 09:40 PM

I guess this goes for personal chioce.

Papa 05.19.2006 09:45 PM

As is usually the case.

squeeforever 05.19.2006 09:59 PM

The anodizing hadn't even begun to were off when I sold my Maxx. I think it's some kind of hard anodizing.

giftacrylic 05.19.2006 10:13 PM

All I want is a plush ride w/o bottoming out hard, is that too much to ask for????:)):007:

squeeforever 05.19.2006 10:54 PM

Not really. The Powerstroke By-pass shocks would certainly help that.

Sylvester 05.19.2006 11:16 PM

Personally, i think both are great shocks! But im leaning more towards the UE shocks. Just the looks- i dont like the big bulky look of the pro-lines, yet ive never heard one bend/break, which is a good thing.

Serum 05.20.2006 02:31 AM

If it is of any value;

the powerstrokes are obselete. (which is a bad thing, because they are awesome shocks, and so are the UE's)

giftacrylic 05.20.2006 07:42 AM

They are available here https://www.ssl-stormerhobbies.com/c...s&pn=PRO602500

Papa 05.20.2006 07:44 AM

Looks like you can buy direct from pro-line as well.

Serum 05.20.2006 10:58 AM

Per piece papa.. they are obselete, check towers and all the other distributors.

Sylvester 05.20.2006 11:09 AM

They can get quite expensive! Id say get UE, they are just soo perddy:)

squeeforever 05.20.2006 12:25 PM

Well if you do deside to get the Proline, I have 4 by-pass shocks I don't need anymore. Just let me know.

coolhandcountry 05.20.2006 12:58 PM

Has any one tried to run the ue with the proline bypass. May be this combo would be the stuff. It would maybe out perform the two seperate. It is just a crazy idea in my head.

Sneeck 05.20.2006 01:31 PM

That is in fact a pretty good idea. It wouldn't win any beauty prizes, but it might work.

What do you want for them bypass shock's Squee?

giftacrylic 05.21.2006 12:24 AM

For those that have owned or played w/ both shocks, which do you prefer for racing?

giftacrylic 05.24.2006 07:11 PM

Ordered the Powerstrokes (the owners on this board that owned these swore by them). What springs and shock oils did you use?

squeeforever 05.24.2006 07:38 PM

Stock. It comes with 30 weight oil. I used that with the pistons that were already installed and it was close to perfect. I would just stick with the stock springs as long as your truck isn't really heavy.

giftacrylic 05.24.2006 10:24 PM

My truck is 12lbs RTR.

squeeforever 05.24.2006 10:39 PM

Might want to try a little heavier oil then. The 30wt is about right for roughly a 10lb. truck. Try 45 wt. to begin with.

Serum 05.25.2006 03:33 AM

Keep the oil the same, just try the stiff springs.

Sylvester 05.25.2006 07:49 AM

Yea, maybe 40wt with stiffer springs may be pretty promicing for you!

Serum 05.25.2006 10:00 AM

stick with the stock oil first. It has got this progressive dampening, remember?

squeeforever 05.25.2006 01:33 PM

True, Its just that when my truck got a little heavier it really needed some 40 weight. I just never got to try it out.

giftacrylic 05.25.2006 11:30 PM

Installed my new Powerstrokes today, one word....AAAWWWWEEEESSSOOOMMMEEE!

Thanks for all of your help.

squeeforever 05.26.2006 12:04 AM

Glad to here you like them. I knew you would. I have yet to here of somebody that didn't like them.

phidailo 06.08.2006 04:33 PM

I have a 12lb truck and wanted to know if i should go with all 8 coilovers or 4 coilovers and 4 bypass?

My truck bottoms out with stock shocks and stiffer integy springs on small jumps....I'd say 1.5-2ft jumps

Serum 06.08.2006 05:17 PM

you can do with 4 shocks/4 coilovers. You might get the stiffest springset though. (the white/silver ones)

BP-Revo 06.09.2006 01:56 AM

The standard 4 bypass/4 coilovers would work awesome. What I used on my Race-Maxx before (now in process of becoming a CF G2R). Anyways, the "stock" setup for those shocks is a little on the soft side for an E-Maxx. They are actually designed for a T-Maxx.

So, I would suggest picking up the "Firm" or "Extra Firm" springs and putting 50wt oil in the coilovers only, leave 30wt in the bypass.

The reason to this is that changing the oil in the bypass also affects the progressiveness, while only changing coilover affects the overall dampening. This is where the powerstrokes really shine, as you get to individually adjust specific damping parameters. This actually takes a little away from the Revo's suspension advantage. Note I did only say a little...the Revo suspension is still amazing.

phidailo 06.09.2006 02:02 AM

thank you...i just put the order in with some shock oil
