what to do now?

Well hi everyone, a couple nights ago I dug up my e-maxx and wanted to make a brushless basher (since I all ready have a brushless LSP for racing). Well it soon turned into sort of a home made G-maxx. The e-maxx has UE idlers, MIP CVD’s, RPM arms, twinforce center dog bones, and highly modified stock chassis. But it needs new diffs. Would these be able to hold up to a 9xl + 16 cells or 5 lipo http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...zerdiff&cat=17 with the RRP ring and pinions?

Well now I can’t decide if I want to keep the LSP brushless or make the e-maxx brushless. I can’t afford both.

On one last note I would like to keep the 2 speed and gear first for normal driving and second as turbo like in this thread http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3391 BTW I am running an RRP slipper with ofna mod 1 51 tooth spur, what pinion?

Now pics!
(sorry for a dusty truck)

no offense to you lightning but that truck looks racier then the lsp.

no affense taken and i agree with you, the e-maxx also feels more "solid" or "planted" if you know what i mean.

Mike.L 08.27.2006 08:33 PM

with a 8xl or 9xl you can start from 15T and go up! thats sweet cem, props on the low c.o.g:D

cemetery gates 08.28.2006 08:42 AM

thanks mike.L

i still need to know if these http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...zerdiff&cat=17 with the RRP ring and pinions will handle a 9xl and 16 cells or 5s lipo.

*edit* link fixed

Mike.L 08.28.2006 09:46 AM

that link doesn't work, are you using mod 1 or 32 pitch? because if its 32 pitch the gearing will be a bit different.

neweuser 08.28.2006 03:02 PM

Nice job! Great work. Funny though, i thought about doing the same type of conversion with my girls stock chassis! If you need 16 cells, i have two listed on ebay right now. If they don't get bids, PM me and we can work something out! Both are 8 cells flat packs...

Am I missing something here?? I fail to see what the differential ring and pinion have to do with gearing...Especially since there the same ratio as stock...

cemetery gates 08.28.2006 10:49 PM

well gearing is not a concern right now, i am more concerned about the diffs. i really cant afford UE 7.5's or the FLM cases with lightning diffs. in this situation would these http://www.rc-monster.com/proddetail...zerdiff&cat=17 with RRP gears be appropriate? (BTW useing a 9xl with 16 or more cells)............

rchippie 08.28.2006 10:50 PM

That looks great how you made your truck. I never would have thought to do that.

thanks man.

what happened was that i was going to make a custom chassis out of 5mm polyester and i told my dad what i was doing, and he said " well, why don't you just do this" and he holds the chassis down low. i was like i could make that work and i did...........

rchippie 08.28.2006 11:33 PM

Have you ran it yet ,If so how did it do ?. It's very cool that your dad helped you out.

i have not ran it yet, i could but i have the stock diffs with spools F/R....................

neweuser 08.29.2006 01:35 PM

Try to run it lightly to see how that work man!

tallyram 08.29.2006 03:46 PM

if you are careful and don't wheelie a bunch they might last for a while. i think the worst thing for the diffs is punching it from a stand still.

Serum 08.29.2006 03:53 PM

a spool is bad on higher speeds. Doesn't help the truck to get stable..

cemetery gates 08.29.2006 03:57 PM

the spools are in the truck now because i blew the diff cups with a dual HV-maxx setup.

would the maximizer cups with RRP gears hold up, or should i save up for UE or hibrid bulks........

Serum 08.29.2006 04:20 PM

My 7075 cups are still going strong. They are nog as tough as the UE's but on the 7XL they survive quite well.

shim the properly is my advice, and maintain them every now and then. And use aluminum housings or the new 3.3 t-maxx housings. (they use more screws, which makes them more stable)

squeeforever 08.29.2006 06:13 PM

If you can, go for the combo bulks instead of aluminum housings. After cases and bulks, it comes to about the same thing...

cemetery gates 08.29.2006 06:36 PM

i already have alu. bulks so it is a no go on the combo bulks. should i get the traxxas ring and pinions or the RRP ring and pinions? i dont want to be in the same situation like my buggy was by ripping the diff apart every half a run.............

squeeforever 08.29.2006 06:42 PM

I would go for some RRP I guess...

cemetery gates 08.30.2006 04:59 PM

well i ran my maxx today and i am very happy! even with spools F/R it handles better that my brushless LSP. it is also faster and lighter by 1.5 pounds!

my setup now:

custom chassis
9xl
Quark 125B
4 ofna shocks
transmission locked in second with UE idler
alu. bulks
16 cells (5s lipo soon)

i am running 51 spur and 15 pinion. can i gear up? the temps are bearly hand warm now........

neweuser 08.30.2006 05:07 PM

you may be able to gear up two teeth and be fine. How's the Quark? Also, are you going with Single speed?

cemetery gates 08.30.2006 05:09 PM

woops, yeah it is my maxx........

Serum 08.30.2006 05:36 PM

What lipo's are you leaning to?

neweuser 08.30.2006 05:37 PM

I would go 5s

Serum 08.30.2006 05:39 PM

more important; What brand?

cemetery gates 08.30.2006 05:42 PM

serum, i am going to get trueRC 2s and 3s 8k lipos.

neweuser, i have made my own single speed by removing the uneeded first speed gears and locking it in second with 2 screws and an arow shaft. i'll try and post a pic later..........

IMO. Great bang for the buck. Mine have been great, and Dan over there is a good guy as well. Been running 2 (2s + 3s, 8k) sets like this for 6 months now. For the money, you can't go wrong.

do you know if they would fit in the e-maxx battery trays?

squeeforever 08.30.2006 11:29 PM

They should.

jhautz 08.30.2006 11:41 PM

No. If I remember right, they were just a little to big in both length and width. The exact measurements of my packs are 2.0in x 5.7in including the bulges on the ends where the wires are under the shrink wrap. Measure your battery tray. Also, it would have been a tight squeeze for the 3s pack to go in and out without damaging it on the edge of the motor plate.

I haven't tryed it in a long time and I don't have a stock chassis around here any more to check it out.

cemetery gates 08.30.2006 11:49 PM

well length and hight are ok (the transmission on my custom chassis is higher than on the stock chassis) but the width is off by 2mm:035: :035: :035:

what should i do...........

jhautz 08.30.2006 11:54 PM

You could load them in the tray standing on edge. :005: You would have to come up witha strap of some sort to hold it though. And it would raise the COG a touch.

cemetery gates 08.31.2006 12:05 AM

i could do that, it would not really raise my cog because i am running 16 cells now with 6 flat and 2 on top. BTW i am going run the gorillamaxx straps and if you look at the pics on the first page, i dremeled out the back of the chassis so i could fit 7 cells flat. (i think i could fit 9 flat it i made a plate for the cells so they would not hand off the end of the chassis)

squeeforever 08.31.2006 05:03 PM

I remember TrueRC was selling pairs of 2S2P 8ah packs a while back. They were supposed to fit the stock chassis...

Serum 08.31.2006 05:45 PM

2s2p 8000's, so that would be 16000 mah?

or you mean 2s2p 4000's? the are a 1>1 fit.

i think Squee means using 2 2s2p 8k batteries for a total of 4s2p............
