Brushless MGT owners..

Question to anyone who may know - a mate of mine just borught an MGT to convert to brushless, with an Emaxx tranny. I have it infront of me, and I can't see how the tranny is ment to go down low enough - do you have to make many modifications to the chassis or am I just looking at it wrong?

Cheers.

Serum 09.28.2006 12:40 PM

Leroy has got a thread about it.. the bl mgt owners here are rare, but Leroy is raving enthusiastic about them.

Rtsbasic 09.28.2006 12:41 PM

Hopefully he'll chime in here then and explain how the heck it fits in :) I've seen a couple of vids of EMGT's running with maxx trannies, just no clue how they do it.

Rtsbasic 09.28.2006 12:45 PM

LOL, thanks for the link mate, since the site was redesigned I never seem to find that button. Well thats my execuse anyway.

Serum 09.28.2006 12:47 PM

Accepted.. now you know what it looks like.

you knew you can choose your own skin for the forum in the user cp?

Rtsbasic 09.28.2006 12:50 PM

I had completely forgotten about that, thing is the new looks grown on me since it came about a few months ago, just don't like the design at the top. Hard to get to PM Inbox, etc. And the search should be closer to the main content like every other forum! ;)

Serum 09.28.2006 12:53 PM

Yeah, you get used to it though.

Rtsbasic 09.28.2006 12:58 PM

Aye you do indeed.

Unfortunately I can't find the info I'm looking for in Leroys thread, only frustrating me further because thats the 3rd one I've seen today with the tranny in :(

Serum 09.28.2006 12:59 PM

Be patient, i am sure Leroy will offer help.

I guess he is riding his new bike to gain some muscles....

neweuser 09.28.2006 01:16 PM

Yes, he has become a true biker!!!! Also, he put a center dif in his MGT....

Rtsbasic 09.28.2006 01:18 PM

You trying to tell me you guys don't live on here? j/k :007: I'll try and be patient :)

Serum 09.28.2006 01:43 PM

Sometimes it may look like that..

Leroy is cheating on us with his bike...

neweuser 09.28.2006 01:44 PM

Damn Bike! I think we should snatch it some night so we can get Leroy back here!

Serum 09.28.2006 01:45 PM

I think it's better for him if we left him..

Rtsbasic 09.28.2006 01:46 PM

You can never escape this hobby, he'll come crawling back..

Serum 09.28.2006 01:48 PM

LOL didn't knew a centerdiff MGT was that good of a crawler..?

coolhandcountry 09.28.2006 07:30 PM

I have not left you. I am still around. :D
I made some adapter plates to go under the tanny and mount it to the mgt
chassis. The last one i did I cut the bottom out of chassis so it would go down
I like the center diff better at the moment. I got others to bash with tranny.

Yeah I been riding my bike. I don't consider it cheating. You know about it ;)

Rtsbasic 09.28.2006 07:33 PM

So you haven't left us after all!

Thanks for the info, so if I cut the chassis on the underside to let it go down, the dogbones would reach the diffs etc okay?

Btw..you think it'll need custom dogbones ordering, or do you know of some that will work? Perhaps even stock, or some Maxx 3.3 sliders, if they bolted up to the diffs?

Serum 09.29.2006 01:23 AM

With the sliders, you need a shaft that comes out of the diff instead of a cup.

Good to see you are biking..!

IMO, that's the worst kind of cheating! Blantenly right in our faces, no beating around the bush, no lying, no hiding! LOL J/K man!!!!:005:

coolhandcountry 09.29.2006 10:27 AM

You would have to mod a slider to fit the pinnion of the mgt diff. It is 8 mm diameter. I not sure how strong it would be if you did that. I used like a 100.5 in rear ue ti one. Used I think it was a 89 mm or so for front. Don't hold me to the front one though. I think i listed it in the thread i had.

neweuser 09.29.2006 10:37 AM

CHC, you should post that vid you made!!

Serum 09.29.2006 11:20 AM

89mm, thats one from a savage, correct?

coolhandcountry 09.29.2006 02:40 PM

Try a buggy. :D Mbx for sure.

Serum 09.29.2006 02:54 PM

Shouldn't you be out biking? LOL

neweuser 09.29.2006 02:56 PM

LOLOLOLOL......Go pedals! A lot more diff than pulling the trigger on a radio!

Serum 09.29.2006 03:02 PM

Tomorrow i will be going out for a fieldride.. I guess i am cheating on you guys too.. (i bike a lot too, 3-4 times a week is my goal..)

Rtsbasic 09.29.2006 04:15 PM

You've completely confused me now, granted thats not a hard thing to do though!

What do you mean by modding a slipper? The plan is to drop the whole Emaxx tranny in with a Strobe on? Do you mean maybe mod the slider (drill it out) to fit the MGT diff?

Thanks for the measurements btw, they sound correct :) Now to find some dogbones on the cheap that'll work.

I feel compelled to mention I bike quite a lot as well, trying to get back into shape at the moment, failing but trying. Don't think I'm regular enough to be cheating yet though :010: :)

coolhandcountry 09.30.2006 01:41 PM

I said slider. ;)
I meant the slider part. It only fits like a 6mm shaft not 8mm. But the mgt has the thru hole in it. You could try it.

Rtsbasic 09.30.2006 02:00 PM

Sure ya did ;) :D When I next have the car then I'll chop the chassis apart and modify a pair of sliders. If nothing else it'll work until some dogbones of the right length can be found cheap-ish :)

Its getting my old 9920 and 9XL in, and the plan is to drop 6s2p of them emoli li-ions in eventually, but in the mean time use 14 GP3300's. Using 40 series moabs (7 inchs tall, pretty big). What sort of gearing do you think it should use? 18/51 on the 9XL/14 cells? Or is that asking a bit much of the motor/batteries?

Rtsbasic 09.30.2006 07:12 PM

Just spoke to my friend who has the car, he has the tranny out the MGT, tried putting the emaxx one in, but the mounting lugs don't reach the mounts on the chassis - the tranny is too narrow. Any suggestions? I thought it bolted straight up :(

just make plates that connect the transmission to the mounting holes. i did this once when i had a MGT.............

Rtsbasic 09.30.2006 07:32 PM

Sounds so simple..its really hard to picture what needs doing, when I don't have the car here :(

Do you think lexan plate adapters would work okay, or would it have to be metal?

Serum 10.01.2006 03:06 AM

Depending on the thickness..

Rtsbasic 10.01.2006 06:27 AM

hmm, have some 6mm laying around. The holes are gonna be pretty close for using lexan, but i might give it a go anyway.

Serum 10.01.2006 06:30 AM

It's easy to work on, so it's not a big waste of time if it's not working the way you planned.

Rtsbasic 10.01.2006 06:33 AM

Damn Serum, you never sleep man? :D

When I next have the car I'll give it a go..if not, i have some 3mm alloy that should do it okay.

coolhandcountry 10.01.2006 08:29 AM

I had mine mount to the chassis. I made a plate for the bottom to run the screws thru. I had to dremel the chassis out for the screws to pass by. It only rested on the outer edge of the trans. It is easier to do the plates. Looks better to do the other way.

Serum 10.01.2006 10:16 AM

LOL, I don't sleep much to tell you the truth.. It's driving my girl crazy.. But there is a time-difference between you and me, so i consider you where the one that hit the deck quite late..

Leroy, i understand your signature like no other man. You are sooo right.
I have got tons of RC standing upstairs waiting to get finished. i have got the urge to make, to do something. But i am driving my bike for about 4 times a week now, so that's quite an energy absorber. But i get a good feeling back from it..

Daniel left a bit on us too. His last post was quite some time ago.
