Rc18t

Hey guys! I just got an RC18T. And the stock shocks suck the biggie! I'm going to convert this thing th BL sooner or later. But my question is, what is a good shock to use? I would like something adjustable. Thanks!:027:

squeeforever 10.09.2006 10:26 AM

Is it the FT version?

neweuser 10.09.2006 10:31 AM

Nope. it has all the electronics. The shocks are oil filled and what not, but the bottms keep falling out of it everytime i smack a wall, and, one blew out the bottom. They just suck is all, so i need to get some goodies for it!

squeeforever 10.09.2006 10:58 AM

Aren't they different than the FT ones? If so, get the FT ones...

sjcrss 10.09.2006 10:59 AM

learn to drive and things won't break as much...lol...allready thinking about going brushless...man that didn't take long....you have had it less than a week i think....

neweuser 10.09.2006 11:12 AM

Since Thursday. The point in getting it was to convert it. It'll be some time before the actual BL system gets in there, but I'm going to get it ready first. Beef it up ya know. Thanks Squee for the advice. Just want to make sure I get real good shocks for it. Any other suggestions are welcome. Thought about the GPM's on ebay, just not sure though. new to the micro scene so..with that said, I want to get the best shock possible.

neweuser 10.09.2006 01:16 PM

Would anyone know if these are good?

I use 3racing shocks on my RC18T and love em. Also, the only thing you really have to do to get it BL ready is to change out the dogbones to either the FT aluminum bones or CVD's. You might also want to check out the slop in your factory diffs to make sure they don't need to be shimmed. I've been running a Mamba 6800 in mine on 6 and 8 cells IB1200 and GP1100 packs for a few months now. If you have any specific questions on where to buy parts or anything else, just shoot me a PM and I'll be glad to help as much as I can.

tallyram 10.09.2006 01:31 PM

stick with the ft shocks. flipping the stockers upside down might fix the problem!

crazyjr 10.09.2006 01:47 PM

use four washers on the gear side, mine slipped with the stock motor with anything less, they hold well with four

What do you think of the GPM that i linked? are they good or no?:010:

tallyram 10.09.2006 02:04 PM

i would say no to the gpm's. i've heard to stay away from their mini hopups.

neweuser 10.09.2006 02:08 PM

What would you say skellyo?

skellyo 10.09.2006 02:11 PM

I would say no on the GPM as well. I've heard of too many problems on GPM shocks with bent shafts. Also, I've had the stock, FT and 3racing shocks and the 3racing were the only ones that didn't leak all over the place. I have heard of people getting the FT shocks to stop leaking with green slime ( http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXSF70&P=7 ) but never tried it myself.

skellyo 10.09.2006 02:13 PM

Where I bought my 3racing shocks:

squeeforever 10.09.2006 03:03 PM

Yea, I would go for the 3Racing as well (didn't know they made them, actually...). Definately stay away from GPM. I was gonna buy a few GPM parts, but nothing structural. Only small parts that aren't important...

neweuser 10.09.2006 05:57 PM

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1 well. i got these cuz i didn't have a link yet. aRe these the same though? they sure look likte it! Just more money! damn!

Yup, they are the same! Thank god.

Yeah on the gear side to push the gears together in the gearbox

tallyram 10.09.2006 10:31 PM

i use the ft shocks mounted upside down, havn't leaked for around a year now!

neweuser 10.10.2006 08:59 AM

I got the 3racing shocks. They should be fine to use. It's going to be a slow project i think though. With school and all, not much time to play! ARG!

sjcrss 10.10.2006 09:01 AM

good winter project....take your time and enjoy it....

neweuser 10.10.2006 09:05 AM

It will be fun. Still need to finish the Gmaxx too. And Mandie's truck, and.....ARG!

sjcrss 10.10.2006 09:10 AM

i bet your CC companies LOVE you...lol......looks like you have to many irons in the fire.......lol

neweuser 10.10.2006 09:16 AM

It's not all CC. Some of the bigger stuff is. My UE suspension is all paycheck! mini 18 all paycheck....oh, wait, do you know what that is??? A paycheck is somethig you get when you work 40+ hours a week. LOL, yeah, too much going on at one time. Addiction at it's best!

sjcrss 10.10.2006 09:19 AM

good one there....chicken man

neweuser 10.10.2006 09:22 AM

For off road try the losi miniT pro shocks with the gold shafts there a little longer and handle the bumps and jumps better.

The trick to fixing the leaks in the FT shocks or any shock with o rings is use Asc green slime to lube the o rings when you build them it does help.:027:

How far can you go with a RC18? this is my 18B that has been over 80mph.:D

JOHNNYMAXXIMA 10.31.2006 04:57 AM

Very nice RC18! Too bad you didn't participate in the "Worlds fastest" shootout in California a couple of months ago (or did you) because it sounds like YOU would be holding the title for "worlds fastest mini" instead of Tony Phalen as featured in the December 2006 issue of RC Car Action. He "only" went 76.9mph with his RC18.
What setup are you using in that beast?
Thanks.

neweuser 10.31.2006 10:25 AM

Very nice toys! Where did you get the chassis and fins? Also, are you running your shocks upside down?

IBJAMMIN 10.31.2006 11:30 AM

I built this car after the WFRCC contest but I will be there next year.:D

right now I have a Quark ESC with a Wraith 7000kv motor with a 4s 2100mah pack the front wing really helps keep it on the ground at high speed a problem Tony Phalen was having is the car going airborn above 70mph.

Yes I run the shocks upside down it helps keep the piston suspended in the fluid on bottom out and no leaks I also flipped the rear arms for 3/8" longer wheelbase and mounted the shocks in front of the axle.:)

I think this winter I'm going to working on a custom extended chassis for the 18t, with a little help of course! :)

Very nice. My chassis will be aluminum though with the cases built in (i hope).
