Brushless Lightning project

So i am starting this up to some versions that i have seen that are magnificant. The Truggy will be a Hotbodies Lightning pro-R which. The car comes as a built roller. The system will be a mamba max esc runing a Faegio 9xl. I will use an elevated motor mount to give me the most side room for cells. It will not be lithium. to be able to run more cells i will change placement of the servo and move it to the center. i need help on the motor. i need someone to cut it. but i will design it. so anyone who can do this please let me know. i am hopping for dual 8 side by side cell packs. i hope it gets enough power.

coolhandcountry 11.22.2006 09:33 PM

you got it truggy already or plan to get one. I have thought of one of these
myself. 16 cells on a 9xl should work nice. I think lipo would be nice for lighter weight.

bemmermazda 11.22.2006 10:00 PM

yhea, it would be better but i dont hve that kind of budget. so, what can you do?

Good choice of motor and # of cells; i used this setup with a Quark 125b in my Lightning Pro and it worked really well.

Bye:018:

bemmermazda 11.23.2006 12:47 AM

sweet. what were you runtimes and speed?
how much is that esc?

bemmermazda 11.23.2006 12:56 AM

Feigao/Nemesis/Wanderer "XL" Brushless Motor 12 xl
how well would this work in the type of car i am using. i am looking for as fast as i can get. but no more than 65. i also NEED good runtimes.

Serum 11.23.2006 02:37 AM

the mamba maxx on 16 cells is too much imo.

You think the mamba can't handle the 16 cells real well.

smhertzog 11.23.2006 11:13 AM

I did a few speed runs with 16 cells and it didnt get any hotter than with 4s lipo orions. But like I said it was just for a few speed runs 16 cells is pushing it. Make absolutely sure you have a BEC if you try it and dont forget to cut the red wire:027: let us know how it works

HotnCold 11.23.2006 11:18 AM

And if your gonna be racing - then make the motor mount as low as possible for a low center of gravity - and you might ( depending on the thickness of the motor mount ) wanna think about supporting the back of the motor so that there is no flex up or down.... jmho..... Good Luck

Well, my speed was around 40 or so and i got around 20-25min bashing and around 10min racing.

here is the esc

you might want to use this heatsink with the Quark 125b

bemmermazda 11.23.2006 09:25 PM

i will use a ubec

Brushless Lightning pro-r

I am getting this roller for the holidays and i am planning on doing a conversion. Now i have come to the conclusion for the system, batterys and how i will mount the motor. but i now i hear i need a plastic spur gear, if so which should i use? Also is their someone out their that can cut out a motor mount for me if i buy the aluminum and mark the cuts? obviously for some sort of charge. Where can i get a heatsink for a Feigao xl series motor. i am using the highest one which i believe is the 9xl.
Another thing, can i directly solder the motor to the esc rather than using gold plugs? i know i can but will it be a good idea.

Serum 11.25.2006 04:28 AM

Will you please stick with opening one topic about this?

the heatsink can be purchased thru Mike, the owner of this forum, check out www.rc-monster.com

the wanderer XL (same as the feigao) comes standard with 5.5 mm gold plugs.

bemmermazda 11.25.2006 07:48 PM

which one should i go with for maximum power and runtimes on ni-mh cells?motor will be a feigao 9xl

squeeforever 11.25.2006 07:58 PM

A Neu motor would be my choice, but a Feigao C XL is the next best thing. You can't beat the price/performance ratio.

bemmermazda 11.25.2006 07:59 PM

and gearing, i will use the kyosho plastic spur from the rc monster store that is 46 tooth i think, im thinking a 15t pinion. what would you guys recomend

squeeforever 11.25.2006 08:07 PM

Kinda confused here...How many cells? 9XL correct?

bemmermazda 11.25.2006 10:08 PM

9xl will be the motor and i will be running 16 cells. two 8 cell packs.
in the future when i get more money i will invest in a nice lehner or neu motor.

gearing?

squeeforever 11.25.2006 10:25 PM

I would get a 14 and a 15T pinion.

bemmermazda 11.25.2006 10:34 PM

thx
recap:
mamba max esc
feigao 9xl
kyosho plastic spur 47 teeth'
pinion: steel 15t
2 8cell ni mh packs
5mm thick aluminum for motor mount

anything else i am forgetting?

squeeforever 11.25.2006 10:48 PM

One thing. A UBEC.

BitHed 12.09.2006 01:33 AM

...will the pinion reach the spur with a 5mm mount? Or is the amount of shaft protuding from the 9XL quite a lot?

Serum 12.09.2006 05:46 AM

Is the motormount part of the diff-holder or is the motormount a 'stand allone' type of mount? normally; with nice pinion (read beefy) you got the ability to have the pinion for 3/5th on the shaft and still be fine. In theory, the further the actual gear sits from the motor, the faster the bearing on the side of the pinion will wear out.

coolhandcountry 12.09.2006 11:03 AM

The 15 tooth sounds like a good strating point. 16 cells on a 9xl should be nice.
I would try to make a motor mount and diff holder together less chance of
flex between them.
