cogging noise on the mamba max 9xl setup

Hey guys been running my setup and its been running smoothly except today ive been hearing these cogging kinda of noise. i really dont know where its coming from. my friend told it could be the sound of my dogbones hitting the cupand told me to put some kind of foam to stop the noise. what do u guys think? oh by the way tried my setup on 2x 2s 4000mah 7.4v lipo and its wicked compared to my 2x 6cell 3300mah 7.2v nimh. what a big diff it makes. Also having some problem tried speed testing it front of my hse and it would go on brakes for half a second without me braking. do u think its some kinda of interferance? do u think its the ubec?

BrianG 12.09.2006 03:04 AM

Is it just a noise or does the truck stutter?

crazyjr 12.09.2006 03:11 AM

Are you running a failsafe? the braking thing may be the failsafe kicking in

carlog80 12.09.2006 04:04 AM

I think its more of a noise than a stutter. but as i said it would brake by itself! What's the failsafe? I already installed the ubec. It wouldnt even heat up as much. By stuttering you mean it wouldnt start right away on start up?

carlog80 12.09.2006 04:08 AM

by the way i ordered some stuff from mike and it said on the order tracking that payment has been recieved. When do you think they will ship? I ordered it on dec. 5th. do u knw how else i could get in touch with them?

MetalMan 12.09.2006 11:02 AM

Does this happen when starting the motor (when cogging usually occurs)?

carlog80 12.09.2006 11:06 AM

im running an emaxx too! im using a jr racing am controller. and a futaba rx cause the batt output in the jr isnt working so that i could use a fan

carlog80 12.09.2006 11:07 AM

no it happens during a turn and i i accelerate

phildogg 12.09.2006 11:10 AM

I've tried talking with castle about this through email but we were really not getting anywhere.. could this be interferance ? we are both running AM radio mines the stock tQ3.. thinking of selling this esc and getting the bk9920 myself..lol by any chance were you running near power lines?
phil

carlog80 12.09.2006 11:10 AM

its more like a clanking metal sound

carlog80 12.09.2006 11:12 AM

yup i was ! tom ill find out if there is anymore problems. I think its more of our controllers thats the problem

carlog80 12.09.2006 11:14 AM

well if you are that would be sad ! man and i was just starting to like my setup! now would be the right time to get the bk from mike its on sale for $150

carlog80 12.09.2006 11:20 AM

carlog80 12.09.2006 11:22 AM

well ill find out tom.

phildogg 12.09.2006 11:37 AM

coolhandcountry 12.09.2006 12:15 PM

does it make the noise if the tires are off the ground?

carlog80 12.09.2006 12:30 PM

actually i doesnt!! about the braking glitch that me and phildogg are having what could you say about that it would be nice if crazyjr could comment on this.

crazyjr 12.09.2006 01:49 PM

I have no brake glitch, never have. Carlog80, how are you using a futaba reciever with a jr radio? they are on a different shift or phase, I know you can use hitec and futaba together and jr, air, and ko thgether but never thought futaba and jr could be used togrther?? I think that could be part of your problem

phildogg 12.09.2006 02:00 PM

well why am I having the same exact prob. as him? I'm just using a stock radio.. I never had any probs with this esc and a 5700 motor in my rusty also with the stock radio.. any ideas..
phil

crazyjr 12.09.2006 02:08 PM

Honestly i don't know. I was refering to carlog80's radio setup. how is the esc setup? Are you running the default settings? I haven't played with the one in the G2R with 9XL yet, may need to go back to default and start again (except for the lipo cut off if using lipo's)

glassdoctor 12.09.2006 04:50 PM

I have only seen my 1/8 mamba setup do the braking thing I think one time, where it was running near full throttle down the street and it breifly stabbed full brakes all by itself. This happened to me at speed, not under accleration really.

This, BTW is not the same glitch I have talked about before, which happens with a stock MM setup in 1/10 cars while racing. That's a sublte hiccup that happens when the car is coasting for a second and then you get back on throttle a little.

I think some of the glitches reported could be radio related, esp when running a AM radio. Seriously, I would never ever run a high voltage, high power setup like we do on AM. And running this on a AM radio near power lines is a huge mistake IMO. Maybe that's not it, but I think you need to try running it somewhere else and see what happens before blaming the esc.

Also the ubec can cause some radio interference or so I'm told... they can be "noisy" little buggers.

Use an FM radio ALWAYS and use fresh batteries in the radio too if you have any doubts. Save the AM radios for the old beater stock cars.... like the ones I keep around for my kids. :)

crazyjr 12.09.2006 05:33 PM

Thank you Glassdoctor, I have never run an AM on a brushless setup (left them behind when i started racing), I have never seen anything like described by you guys, except the rollong reverse to foreward cog. I wish i could help, but i'm not seeing the problems that you and others are

carlog80 12.10.2006 09:29 AM

well today sucked cause its been raining all day so no races today. Anyway back to the problem. i never blamed the esc. I definitley think its my radio controller thats the probloem. and you guys are right about leaving the am behind. well i guess thats mu next project to get a good radio controller. what would you guys recommend? i guess just a mid priced one would be great. I defintly think it could have been the radio interferance.

phildogg 12.10.2006 09:34 AM

it was me who blamed the esc.. I know it can be the radio, just getting agravated is all will be ordering a new radio soon hopefully..

carlog80 12.10.2006 09:43 AM

i know what you mean! what radio were you thinking of?

coolhandcountry 12.10.2006 09:54 AM

I have a hitec agressor with spektrum in it. I love it. You could just go spektrum.
Go by a hobbyshop and see what fits you. If you want a good radio alot
of people love the nomadio.

crazyjr 12.10.2006 02:57 PM

I got a Jr xs3 in the G2R and a futaba t3pdf in the t$ both with mamba and both work fine(I think the futaba is no longer being made but you can find them on ebay)

phildogg 12.10.2006 03:00 PM

the 3pdf is now the 3pm I believe.. I'm going to just grab a 2pl fm or a 3pm futaba.. something fm comp radio cheap.. still have holiday things to buy and have already spent alot on this truck..lately..
phil

crazyjr 12.10.2006 03:49 PM

So long as its FM, it will do nicely.

carlog80 12.12.2006 10:38 AM

regarding that cogging noise does it only happen when its on the groung its like this ticking noice when you accelerate right?

crazyjr 12.12.2006 06:42 PM

The ticking noise may be the shafts, unless its really stuttering

phildogg 12.16.2006 05:05 PM

well as far as my hard brake for no reason the spectrum radio fixed all that.. thanx.. no trying to jack the thread bro but hoping you radio fixes yours also..
