HB Lightning Staduim Conversion Help

hey guys i have noticed on tower hobbies that the jato 2.5 is discontinued and the jato 3.3 is about $412.99, i have been also looking at that HB lightning stadium RTR. the price is $420 so i would rather pay the extra 8-10$

now i want to know if this is durrable and worth paying the extra 10$ Because im going to sell of the engine, radios, ect...

what motor should i use and esc? Im running 12 cells and want a tops of about 35MPH. More would be better.

*Note that i have been looking at the 9920 looks like a good deal and the new added beefier heat sink.

give me all your inputs on this.

GorillaMaxx360 12.17.2006 11:56 PM

Man this car is the way to go, it is durable, fast, and it races/handles well. And if that does not convince you(which it probably does) your moving all the way from 1/10 scale to 1/18 scale in a mere $10. HB is awsem i would do it any day (over the jato 3.3 jato is good but for 10 more bucks you get a 1/8 scale over 1/10 scale man thats good)

Mike.L 12.18.2006 09:20 AM

does anyone have any suggestions for gearing if the diffs will last to bl and what motor esc?

im a noob to this 1/8 scale stuff for the most part

squeeforever 12.18.2006 06:08 PM

The diffs are probably some of the strongest there is, so no worries there, but I would NOT get the RTR version. Get the Pro-R. It has all the hopups and no engine, radio, etc. WELL worth it IMHO...

Sylvester 12.18.2006 06:49 PM

Just got mine in the mail! Its SOOOO mint! :)

GorillaMaxx360 12.18.2006 06:50 PM

the pro is realy nice but i think the reason he was going rtr was becasue he did not want to spend over 400 but if i am wrong go for the pro

Mike.L 12.18.2006 07:20 PM

yeah since tower has a list of ways to save money i save 40$ on it so what the hek,

@ Sylvester, dude screw the ls RR Im gonna grab the pro.:D
thanks for the info guys but i still need a gearing suggestion, esc, and motor!

ceep your suggestions comming!

Sylvester 12.18.2006 07:40 PM

You should use spell check every now and than ; ;)

Your getting the pro or pro-r? I've once again fallen in love with another one of my toys :)

Mike.L 12.18.2006 07:48 PM

The Pro-r

the pro r seems to be most attractive to me now, after i saw yours it just made me want the best one there is:P

dom tell me what you would do....im running 12 cells for shure so....what motor gearing esc?:032:

Sylvester 12.18.2006 07:49 PM

7xl, UBEC, 9920, 15/44 start and go up from there. Hope this helps.

Mike.L 12.18.2006 07:59 PM

thats what your doing? for yours, why not the MM?

Sylvester 12.18.2006 08:08 PM

You asked what i reccomended for your setup....

I am still thinking about the MM. For me im probably gonna run 12-16 cells.

nbcaznmaster 12.18.2006 08:14 PM

well, LSP is a decent car, but i suggest the kyosho str. it has much better handling and sturdier. But it comes at en extra $300 or more.

Sylvester 12.18.2006 08:20 PM

I dont think the value is worth the money, and i dont like the looks of it either. Over priced imo.

squeeforever 12.18.2006 08:25 PM

Decent? Theres the biggest understatement of the year...Lets put it this way. Larry (CrazyJr) like the Pro-R I sold him more than his HPI Hellfire. Keep in mind he did tuning, etc with the Hellfire suspension and yet says that the Pro-R handles better...The Pro-R has NO tuning, etc. other than the springs. The thing still had the original wt. shock oil, no fluid in the F/R diffs, etc...That is saying something. Not to mention, if your gonna get a $700 truggy, don't skimp, get the Mugen MBX-5T Pro-Spec.

As for a setup, I would choose a Mamba Max ESC and the best motor you can afford. Neu 1515 1Y, Lehner Basic XXL1800, Fiegao C 7XL. In that order...The only thing is that the Lehner goes straight from 1800kv to 3000kv...I suppose you could use the 1800 and gear up...

Mike.L 12.18.2006 08:38 PM

Squee about the XXL motors? will mike stock them anytime soon? Yea i was thinking about the fiego 7XL, whats the difference between that and the wanderer7xl and rcm heatsink?

also in want to be able to do a whole bash session without any cogging, full backflips without it cogg in the air. *note i can add a fan to my MM if needed. And about the motor, would like if i doesnt make any heat issues.

GorillaMaxx360 12.18.2006 08:41 PM

go 7XL (best bang for the buck) also the quark controller is good as well as the castle creations.

Sylvester 12.18.2006 08:44 PM

The Wanderer have better bearings than fieagao, but that is a very minimal difference. IMO i just like the looks of the rcm heatsink so id take a wanderer with a xl heatsink. But the best bang for buck is the "C" motor. Looks good too.

Mike.L 12.18.2006 08:47 PM

yea i herd lots prefer the feigo C xl these days over the wanderer xl's.
IDK, i do like the rcm heat sink on there makes it look nice but im in for the performace here.

gorilla maxx 360, i know the quark is something to think about BUT, i dont think ill be hungry for more power to feed it with, so about 35MPH should be good for bashing, And + more cells is more weight.
Options
1.the quark is 280$ + 90$-(feigo c XL) =370$
2.mamba is 140$ + 150$-(LMT XXL) =290$
3.mamba is 140$ + 90$-(feigo c XL)= 230$
ill rather take option 3-Or 2

Sylvester 12.18.2006 08:49 PM

The "C" motors will maybe run 1 maybe 2C cooler than the wanderer with heatsink... No difference there, just my opinion.

Mike.L 12.18.2006 08:54 PM

yeah, i see what you mean kinda in a pickle.

Sylvester 12.18.2006 08:57 PM

I think option 3 would be the best for budget, option 2 would be ok to, but a bit higher in price.

GorillaMaxx360 12.18.2006 08:59 PM

Yeah it all depends what kind of budget your on

Mike.L 12.18.2006 09:04 PM

its better for me to ceep it as low as possible, but if im going to buy something that will give me problems ill rather buy the more better diamond if you know what i mean.

YEAH MAN JUST A SUGGESTION but if your on a tight budget/ or your trying to keep it low i totally agree with you if i was on that budget to i would do the same mamba max and 7XL is perfect for your needs and price:027:

Mike.L 12.18.2006 09:57 PM

yea thanks for the suggestions guys. 70% done in my research now what spures to put on my C diff? Kyosho 44 or 46. I herd 15 Pinion and start from there? that sonds good scince there 1/8 diffs.

squeeforever 12.18.2006 10:06 PM

15 or 16...If I were you, I would get 2 of each spur. That way you have a spare, and you have both to play with the gearing some since pinions aren't available in every tooth.

Sylvester 12.18.2006 10:09 PM

Well, i dont think the spur will make as much of a difference as the pinion would, pretty much going up 1 tooth on the pinion is going down 3-4 teeth on the spur.

Mike.L 12.19.2006 09:14 AM

OK, so im done..... I think. here is my new list
MM=140$
Feigo C XL=90
ubec=37$
2-mod 1 pitch pinions=22$
2-kyosho spurs 44-46=10$

Total:299$

a couple more quesions, can i get a ubec thats just as good at tower for cheaper? are the fiego motors 4mm shaft?

Serum 12.19.2006 05:06 PM

No problem Mike.

I thought you knew the link, but i guess you didn't.

Mike.L 12.19.2006 06:07 PM

OK...Now, anything eles anyone wants suggest for this project?

squeeforever 12.19.2006 06:46 PM

Hop-ups...Just a few things you can consider:

Racers Edge aluminum shock ends

8mm axle conversion (I can give you all the part # if your interested in this)

If not 8mm axle conversion, I would at least put CVD's all around (rear has dogbones).

Edit RC aluminum parts (almost, if not all of them)

HB GTX front and rear diff cases. There a direct replacement and a hell of a lot stronger...

Buggy upper arm mod (again, I can give you the part # if you are interested)

Shock socks are nice :D.

That should be about it. I have done most of that to mine and all of it was easy. I have yet to do the GTX diff cases and the Edit RC parts, but that will come soon :D.
