7XL or 8L /w MM on an Emaxx?
Not sure which way to go here. I'm planning on staying in the 12 - 14 cell range. I'd prefer something that will not blow up the ESC (obviously!) and not run smoking hot.
I see the 7XL draws 95A, right at the limit of the MM, and a bit beyond what cells can supply without too much voltage drop. I looked at the 8L, which only draws 77A, but gives me a more useful Kv rating to work with....but will that overheat? Any and all opinions appreciated! Sleebus |
i am not exactally sure which is the better choice but i have some people running mm with the 7xl just fine.
|
I think the 8XL or 9XL would be better than the 8L and they would be easier than the 7xl on the esc, you may have to gear them up for speed, if thats what you're after though

I personally would not run a MM in an Emaxx...
|
Don't run the 8L. It will get too hot.
I do run an MM with an 8L in my e-maxx. No problems with the MM, but the 8L gets REALLY hot. Next step for me is the 7XL. |
I'm running a 7xl and a mm esc on 4s li-po .. no probs here, with a fan on the esc temps are around 98-100 deg. the motor runs around 140's degrees. seems like a good set-up.

crazyjr, in comparison to what phildogg got, what temps do you get on your MM/9XL?? (if you run 4S, that is. Not sure if you still run Ni)
|
Cool. Looks like the 7XL it is. I'll prolly end up running it on 14 cells. Maybe that will keep me satisfied until the MMM comes along. :)
Thanks for the input guys, Sleebus |

Hmmmmmm. I wonder if it would take 22/66 without overheating? I'm thinking tho if you are running 140 on the motor, maybe not. Looks like your speed is around 30+ mph. Well now I gotta rethink this. Not sure if I want do drop all that money for slightly better than stock top speed. I was planning on running 22/66 with 14 cells to get into 40 mph territory. The motor seems perfectly comfortable in your setup, but I think what I have in mind may be pushing it too hard. Pewp. Sleeb |

Neweuser, If you want ultimate power and run high voltage, the mamba max is not for you, however if you want a reliable, consistent at 4s lipo and easy to use esc for racing, the mamba is probably the ultimate esc for the job. |

I love it no glitching!! thats all I wanted..lol phil |
Larry: When are you going to compare the mgm, bk, and mamba maxx to each other.

I just wonder way is the 8L getting so hot and the 7XL is not?
Is it because its more power in the Xl motors? I have the 8L now with 4s, heat sink on motor and esc. the gearing i use is 51/18 and 51/16 and the motor is getting hot, vould it be cooler with 7XL:032: Sorry the of topic |

...I was running the MM in the E-Sav with a 9L on 20/66 gearing (12 cells) and it was ok...Little warm though...Goes MUCH better with an 18...22 and it would shut down just by sitting there...This was WITHOUT an UBEC though...Still waiting for one to ship from ebay though...
