feigao 8L gearing

well just ordered my first brushless system from rc monster.....the system includes:bk warrior9920 controller, feigao 8L, and cvd's thru the whole drivetrain. i plan on running 14 nihm cell on this setup. i was wondering what size pinion i should run if i plan to run with 66 tooth spur gear???:032: i wanted to run a gearing that is more speed then accleration.....what type of speed our we looking at with this type of setup?????? i'll have pics on profile soon as i get it installed.....:027: :D :018: :)

squeeforever 12.26.2006 05:53 PM

Do you mind me asking who recommended that? Sounds like its gonna run kinda hot...Buy anywho, I would try a 12T pinion to start with....

Welcome to the forums Cliccker.

What are you putting the brushless system in????

cliccker985 12.26.2006 06:08 PM

Do You Know What Kind Of Speeds I Would Get With Setup????should I Run 12 Cells Instead Of 14????

cliccker985 12.26.2006 06:10 PM

I Plan On Putting This Setup In My Pretty Much Stock Emaxx....

Try BrianG's speed calc worksheet. Should gove you an idea of what to expect.

Just wondering why you chose the L can vs the XL. A 7xl would be a great motor for your purposes and even with the slightly lower KV the bigger can would let you gear up higher and get more speed than the 8L.

coolhandcountry 12.26.2006 07:19 PM

I seen my bro run a 8L in his emaxx. It was mostly stock as well.
It ran hot all the time. I think 7xl is much better. I had better temps and
faster than his. Then again he was hard on it. I won't easy on mine either.
I would run 12 if you going to do it. Gear down kind of low. Then you can see
what happens.

Serum 12.26.2006 07:20 PM

That is one wicked hot setup! 12 cells will make that motor hot, leave alone the 14 cells! if you are planning on making it an every day ride, you need some proper diffs on your maxx! it will rip!

Serum 12.26.2006 07:22 PM

BTW with 12 good cells (very good cells) you should be able to hit the 50mph with that setup.

squeeforever 12.26.2006 07:48 PM

Yup. Serum is right. I hit around 50 with a very similar setup (on 12 Sanyo 2400 NiCads...).

cliccker985 12.26.2006 08:41 PM

what are some ways to keep the motor and esc kool without choppin up the body????what would be a good set diffs????what if i just went the hobby shop and got the traxxas diff spool for it???? what kind of gearing where you running in your truck to hit 50+mph, squeeforever????tell what you think if i got these cells from a battery site i found:
http://www.all-battery.com/index.asp...OD&ProdID=1661

phildogg 12.26.2006 11:37 PM

don't get those batteries!! at the very least get gp3300 from radio shack and rebuils side by side..

Can you say ''hell no'' dont waste your money on those. Maybe for your flashlight.:005: But your brushless system will run terible on those (if it even runs). Like Phildog said...At a minumum get the GP3300. As far as Nimh goes, I really like the IB3800 for the price. Cheap batteries DO NOT WORK for these high amp applications.

cliccker985 12.27.2006 01:05 AM

wher can i find some pack that would be under $50 a peice???i thinking a least getting some 3600mah....any options????

cliccker985 12.27.2006 01:08 AM

what do think if i just got these sport packs???4.4K Top Qualifier 4400mah 6 Cell Sport Pack

jhautz 12.27.2006 02:43 AM

maxamps.com has IB3600 6 cell matched packs for $45 each

The base of any good brushless system is the batteries.... Skimp there and your $300+ brushless system will not perform the way it should.

cliccker985 12.27.2006 02:53 PM

for the same price is it worth getting these packs from maxamps????? 4.4K Top Qualifier SC 1.25+ 4400mah 6 Cell Flat Pack

jhautz 12.27.2006 03:26 PM

Cant comment on those. Never tried them. Call max amps and tell them your budget and your application. They can recomend the better performing cells. Although, I am a believer in cells that have a track record.

Serum 12.27.2006 03:28 PM

I heard it was a drastic difference between 4S 4000's and those 4400's. I don't think they will deliver as much juice as good GP3300's

Procharged5.0 12.27.2006 03:29 PM

Typically the GP & the IB's offer the best performance (until you step up to quality Li-Po packs anyway!)

Serum 12.27.2006 03:30 PM

Yep, nothing beats good lipo-cells..

coolhandcountry 12.27.2006 05:13 PM

I went lipo and don't want to go back. I have had good luck with ib 3800.

cliccker985 12.27.2006 05:18 PM

would it be okay to get the shoot gun style ib 3600 or should i go with the cell flat type??????????

cliccker985 12.27.2006 05:21 PM

how much our we looking at to decent lipo's and a decent charger???

coolhandcountry 12.27.2006 05:23 PM

You could go wiht 6000 mah 2s 2p x 2 packs for 80 a piece I think.
The mrc 989 is nice for 140.
Then good idea to go with a balancer to for around 50.
I could be off on some prices so don't hold me to it.

cliccker985 12.27.2006 05:33 PM

is there mush difference between going with the shoot gun sytle pack or the cell flat from maxamps????????

neweuser 12.27.2006 05:39 PM

Well, you should really get the side by side if that's what you mean by shotgun. dude, go to radion shack and get some gp 3300 and take'em apart and resolder to side by side. 25.00 per pack of 6 cells.

cliccker985 12.27.2006 07:04 PM

what is the real difference between having side by side and stick style packs

Procharged5.0 12.27.2006 07:13 PM

Side-by-side allows for more current transfer & less resistance (both equal more power!)

Plus they run much cooler not having the additional shrink wrap.

Serum 12.27.2006 07:20 PM

Not entirely Hank; With the right inline packs, the cells are soldered together; this has a lower resistance than two soldering points+ a piece of copper.

Procharged5.0 12.27.2006 07:23 PM

I have yet to see one in the US market.

The "shotgun" tubes with direct cell-to-cell contact would perform as you allude to but would also retain more heat due to the enclosed tubes. The side-by-side package is still the best overall performer next to the li-po's.

If there was a better mousetrap the pro's would be using it.

Just my perspective btw. not trying to start an arguement with you!

I fear the anteater! LOL.

cliccker985 12.27.2006 07:29 PM

what type of tires should irun if i plan to run half street and half dirt?????any ideas

Serum 12.27.2006 07:34 PM

Don't fear the anteater Artur.. Fear his boiling water..

an inline soldered pack is available here from Hopf, they know their stuff. I can't tell you why the racers don't use them. perhaps it's got something to do with balancing them. You can't discharge each cell individual.

coolhandcountry 12.27.2006 07:34 PM

Are you going to or have a chance to swap tires before going from one to the
other?

cliccker985 12.27.2006 07:39 PM

i really only want to buy one set of tires right now because money is tight

phildogg 12.27.2006 07:43 PM

he is asking if you will be able to change tires before running on the other surface..I used to run bowties myself on both..
phil

neweuser 12.28.2006 10:01 AM

I would go with the Proline Bad Lands IMO.
