Small Problem

My E-Maxx has been going through a change here recently and I have run into a problem. I recently purchased a high torque servo and installed it on my FLM chassis but the servo saver becomes loose when i try to operate the steering. In other words the screw unscrews itself from the servo and detaches the servo saver. Any ideas on how to fix this? Any suggestions would be helpful and appreciated.

Sylvester 12.31.2006 12:53 PM

Try some lock tight on there (blue). Where exactly does it come off ?

Oh and welcome to the forums!

coolhandcountry 12.31.2006 05:59 PM

You may consider upgrading to a ue or proline servo saver.
The hi torque servo will only wind the spring up faster in stocker.

GorillaMaxx360 01.01.2007 01:00 AM

proline or ue servo saver is the fix the unlimited engeenering one is nice but i find it to always be out of stock.

Bash R Maxx 01.02.2007 08:49 PM

A proline or ue saver is good but i don't want to sleep on the couch. (My wife wouldn't approve) Anyway it acts like the only thing holding it on is the screw. The teeth on the saver isn't even touching the teeth on the servo. I was thinking maybe it needed a bushing or maybe my stock saver is worn out.
I don't think i'm allowed to tell you the brand because it is from another OL store. (The servo)

coolhandcountry 01.02.2007 09:10 PM

Well if you changed servos.
The spline count may not match up so your servo is smaller than the hole
in the servo saver. That would explain the problem.

Procharged5.0 01.02.2007 09:13 PM

As previously mentioned it's wise to upgrade to a UE or Proline servo saver.

A short term fix would be to go to your LHS and buy a heavy duty 1/8 scale servo saver.

neweuser 01.03.2007 06:30 PM

Or try a kimbrough

Bash R Maxx 01.03.2007 07:51 PM

I just went to the LHS and bought a new saver. I'll let you know how it works.
I hope this solves it.

Sylvester 01.03.2007 09:10 PM

What saver did you get?

Bash R Maxx 01.04.2007 10:22 PM

A dynamite blue sevo saver. The LHS owner said this is what he ran on his BL gorilla Maxx and he never had a problem.

Any servo-mounted saver that I have ever seen, while improving performance over the stock setup, still is inadequate for the big, heavy tired emaxxes - especially if you have decent motor power. I have some 1/8 ofna servo savers that are a noticeable improvement over the wimpy stock savers(which is wimpy to protect the wimpy stock servo!), but the Proline and UE type savers are the best answer (dual servos and hence dual servo savers would work as well, but would end up costing as much as a good servo saver to begin with).

Besides, get yourself a nice couch and sleeping on it isn't so bad(and the wives usually like nice furniture anyways, so you could probably get a nice, comfortable, sleep-worthy couch!) . Just get the couch first or she may catch on. :)

neweuser 01.05.2007 12:30 PM

Mike, you are too funny! Thankfully for me, Mandie loves getting stuff in the mail for her truck. That's what I did, I just built her one too! No couch needed there! LOL

Bash R Maxx 01.05.2007 07:22 PM

My LHS told me the pro-line saver was discontinued and he couldn't get one. I did see one OL but was worried if it broke I'd be back to square one.

A new couch is NOT an option. (I like my couch) But I've been eyeing a new E-Savage for her. She wants to get into the hobby also.

coolhandcountry 01.05.2007 08:06 PM

I think the emaxx has more upgrade options for later.

phildogg 01.05.2007 08:26 PM

I'd go for a maxx over the e-savage..
phil

GorillaMaxx360 01.05.2007 08:32 PM

wow your lucky she is actually interested

Bash R Maxx 01.09.2007 01:17 PM

Yeah she's interested but she wants the E-Savage. I don't think it would be a good idea to get her a Maxx. I want something I won't have to put alot of upgrades into but is still fun to drive. Don't get me wrong I am happy with my Maxx but if she drives like I do It will spend more time on the work bench.

Procharged5.0 01.09.2007 01:21 PM

Go for the maxx. Upgrade the bulks and shock towers (FLM would work well for little $$$). You're basically done unlesss you want RPM arms for added durability.

I agree!

Procharged5.0 01.09.2007 01:37 PM

Well, I suppose shocks should be considered if a lot of hardcore jumping is being done. I hated it when i was blowing shock caps off (only happened when launching off the really big bmx jumps though).

neweuser 01.09.2007 01:45 PM

But even Bog Bores are pretty cheap and go with RPM pistons

Procharged5.0 01.09.2007 01:50 PM

I only know one guy who used them and he said "great in concept but a real PITA!"

How did you like the RPM pistons?

coolhandcountry 01.09.2007 01:57 PM

I don't think the e savage is as strong as the reg savage.
If you start breaking stuff I don't think it is alot of options to upgrade to.

Procharged5.0 01.09.2007 02:11 PM

I think you're right Leroy. The E-Zilla and E-Savage have limited aftermarket support and I think they cut some corners to keep cost down to compete with the E-maxx. Just my .02

coolhandcountry 01.09.2007 03:15 PM

I think they should have kept closer to the savage.
The savage was a great basher cause of the strength.
At one time they didn't even have a set of cvds to fit the esavage.
They may be out now. At least you can update the emaxx with the
tmaxx 3.3 stuff to make it more durible.

Bash R Maxx 01.11.2007 06:47 PM

My thing is I had to sink alot of $$$$$ into the Maxx to get it even close to what I would consider durable. In retrospect if I had not kept buying stock components and would have bought what I have now I would have had enough cash for just about every FLM or UE part in their catalogs (twice). Live and Learn I guess.

Bash R Maxx 01.11.2007 06:51 PM

I'm just looking to run this E-Savage stock.....famous last words.

Procharged5.0 01.11.2007 06:52 PM

Like the old saying goes.....do it once......do it right!

not like I can say much though....

I've had several sets of control arms, shocks and whatever else on my maxx too!

And on my car......oh boy! I've had several different sets of heads on it, several different custom grind cams, the list goes on, and, on, and on, and on, and on...............

I said that about my MAXX! Now, thousands of dollars later and only 2 trans gears left from the original!....................

Bash R Maxx 01.11.2007 06:59 PM

I ended up breaking 3 stock chassis before I got wise and got an FLM Ext.

Procharged5.0 01.11.2007 07:00 PM

Ouch! How did you manage that? I've never broken a single chassis.........

Bash R Maxx 01.11.2007 07:01 PM

I think the only thing left on mine is the elctronics, shocks and the drivetrain.

Bash R Maxx 01.11.2007 07:02 PM

I am by anyones standards a newbie and can't drive.

Procharged5.0 01.11.2007 07:06 PM

Well we all have bad days too. I lost sight of mine on a tight indoor track(another driver backed into me on the stand).....and smacked a wall coming off the big jump. Destroyed a shock, bulkhead, bent a control arm, and damaged a shock tower!

Thankfully it was all before I upgraded to UE Supermaxx but it was still a bummer.

Bash R Maxx 01.11.2007 07:10 PM

I hit a tree avoiding my niece. (She was five and thought it would be fun to jump in front of it.) One of the afore mentioned chassis a bulkhead, shock tower, and skidplate bit the dust.

Procharged5.0 01.11.2007 07:17 PM

Better than a screaming 5-yr old with a shattered ankle!

Bash R Maxx 01.16.2007 06:48 PM

Good point. But at the time i was thinking she isn't mine. But I think I have it to where only the bumpers and the body posts will break for no faster than I'm going.
