Brushless Rustler
Hello all, this is my first post here at RC-Monster.
Here is my Lexan chassis Mamba Max 5700kv Rustler. The chassis is custom, btw. http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...m/P1010146.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...m/P1010148.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...m/P1010149.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...m/P1010152.jpg http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p...m/P1010153.jpg |
hey, good to have you here.:027:
how do you like the mm? |
hows the balance on it? and whered you get the lexan?
|
Well, the Mamba Max is nothing short of amazing! It's soooooo powerful!!!
I got the lexan at http://mcmaster.com and the balance is great. No wheelies with this setup because it's so long. |
cool, how is the chassis flex down the middle, looks great.....very nice job
|
Is the trans and suspension from the new style rustler? What gearing are you using for the mm5700? Nice piece you have built there :)
|
The chassis flex doesn't seem to bad at all, I can't really tell though. Those Masher 2000's really helped with takeoff and turning though. My previous tires (Worn down stampede tires) would spin out easily and I couldn't turn very well either. The tranny is from the old style, but it also has an aluminum idler gear. Gearing is 17/81, too high, I know. I could find a big enough spur gear.
|
Looks pretty sweet! you could move the batt forward a tad for handling too. Even it out a bit.
|
Nice car i like the dragster look
|
It looks great! Id put the battery forward for a evened out weight, it also wont be so prone to wheelies if done so.

Yea i read all the posts in the thread, dont worry ;)
With the MM5700 on good cells it should wheelie no problem, even if it is extended. |
Great rusty. IMO the chassis is very thick and wont be breaking to soon. The 1/16th inch lexan my robotics team ordered from mcmaster held up well. We also ordered 1/4th inch also. It was very heavy. How much does the rustler way in this configuration.
|
It is pretty heavy right now. And no, I don't not get wheelies, yet, that is. This chassis has a 16" wheelbase. Long, I know. The stock rustler is somewhere around 11-12. So this is a 4-5" length extension. I need to regear though. It's too high right now at 17/81. I just got an 87t spur and I have a 15t pinion. I might be doing wheelies once I do regear.
|
Just a tip. I was stripping spur gears acationally on my rusty when I put a 9l in it. You can replace the spur gear in the rusty with this 32 pitch gear and it makes it alot tougher. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJJ11&P=0 It drops right in, its almost the exact same diameter as the stock 64 pitch gear. You will need 32P pinion gears though.
Dont know if you are having any problems, but you said you were going to regear and I thought Id mention it. |
Thanks for that, though I don't think I'll need that very soon. Isn't a 9l for larger trucks (E-Maxx)?
|
That is one long Rusty...Maybe put some narrow wheels up front, get some Maxx size slicks on back, and get a 8XL in there with 5S lipo and you got yourself a MEAN dragster
|
Haha, the Rustler Tranny would literally explode! It would be a sight to see though...
|
I see you have the old school slipper. Look in to upgrading that to the new style slipper. Best darn upgrade you can get for a rustler. Parts needed for the conversion:
http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKMG7&P=7 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXKMG3&P=7 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXNMN8&P=7 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXDGG3&P=7 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXD121&P=7 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXJF37&P=7 http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...=++&search3=Go Exploded view from the traxxas website. http://www.traxxas.com/products/elec...pede_trans.pdf Edit: btw that comes out to $29.43 worth of parts. May seem like alot but its well worth it for someone that has gone brushless. If you prefer not to do the upgrade then plan on replacing many shafts, trans gears, and diff gears. Like I said before. Best upgrade I ever did for my rusty/pedes. |
That is tight. It give me an idea though.
|
yea move that batery up beacuse i see that you had to set the pre load quite far. putting that batery up should help ease that wheelies.
for hop-ups, i would get the new rpm arms, and possibly some flm upgrades. |
The thing is, I'm not getting wheelies, I guess it's too long or too heavy. I need new front springs, though, they're super soft. I'll hold off on the Revo Slipper Clutch for the XL-5, I have yet to strip a spur with a good mesh. I am going to get RPM Rear arms all the way around once they come in-stock at Tower, so I am pretty much set with this project. Ahh, I need more lexan!!! I need to build more stuff! By the way, Cool Hand, what is your... idea?
|
It has nothing to do with your project. I was one of my projects.
Don't want to reveal all my secerts just yet. |
