brushless e savage
I have a e savage and i am going brushless and i am thinking about the following.fiagao 540c9xl motor and a warrior7020 controller. does this sound good or no. any input would be great i am green at this.
thanks to anyone that replys. |
I replied in another thread, but ;
The motor you got is good, as for the esc it is a little on the danger side , but with a fan on it , i bet it would be fine. Did you also get a UBEC for the controller? How many cells are you running? Already said this in the other thread to but welcome to the forums! Im sure you will enjoy it here. :) |
yes i have a ubec and i am running 14 cells presently? and yes there will be a fan on the controller. thanks for the input is is greatly appreciated.
|
correction the controller is a 9920 not a 7020
|
Good. The 9920 is a much better choice. The 7020 would be on the small side.
|
XL motor wont fit. Go with an L sized motor. You could go with a 9 or 10L motor with MambaMax ECS and a UBEC.
|
Really... An XL wont fit??? Now I know why people convert the nitro. You can fit whatever you want.
That seems like a HUGE design flaw to me. |
Well...........when I say it wont fit......lets put it this way.
If you have a dremel, you can make it fit. Here, a picture will say it better. http://img440.imageshack.us/img440/3...52largefv2.jpg |
I have a feeling we are going to start seeing alot of these E-Savage threads showing up.
|
How long have you had it. How is it holding up. Are there alot of parts interchangable with the nitro savage? Like the E and T maxx parts?
|
Had it for three weeks now. I can hardly believe how well it’s holding up, dang thing hasn’t broke on me yet. This is the first and only savage I've owned so far so I have no idea how interchangeable the parts are with the nitro savage. Honestly, just buy a motor, ECS, and tires of your choice and drive the heck out of it. That’s what I did. I've had 2 E-maxx trucks and I can honestly say stock for stock, the E-Savage is ALOT tougher. I hate to say this. But traxxas better watch out. This thing is likely to really dip in to their rusty/pede and E-Maxx sales. Maybe this will force traxxas to stop playing around and release an E-maxx with the Revo style slipper.
|
They can forget the emaxx upgrade IMO. Just release the e-revo. Thats what I want to see. Not that I'd get rid of the g2r or anything.
|
can you post any more pictures of the motor mounts and the area around it. I can see what limits the motor length, but I cant tell if its easily removed without see whats areound it.
Is the e-savage smaller than the nitro savage? |
yes it is smaller and ligher

Heres a few more pics. I'll take a few upclose pics of the motor mount tomorrow when I can pull the spur cover off. http://img411.imageshack.us/img411/6...argebv2.th.jpghttp://img443.imageshack.us/img443/1...argewh5.th.jpghttp://img146.imageshack.us/img146/3...argext8.th.jpghttp://img300.imageshack.us/img300/5...argehh8.th.jpg |
i had i feeling that would be the problem but cuoldn't tell from a far veiw it it woulb be good or not. (for xl motors)
welcome and again nice savy!:) |
why wont the xl motor fit?? everything looks fine. i have everything ripped apart now and i mounted it just by hand to see what it would look like and eveything lines up.
|
If it fits, then cool! As long as you have about 75mm from the mount to the obstruction, and you can route the wires to they aren't in the way, you should be all set.
I think the concern came from the fact that the Lehner basic motor he's using is 48mm long and had so little extra room. It only makes sense that a 74mm motor wouldn't fit unless the motor was mounted in such a way to keep the wires clear of the obstruction. |
I am certain that an XL won’t fit. I had Mike on the phone with one hand and a measuring tape in the other. The L can barely fits with only a few mm to spare.
|
theres no need for a xl tho... its a light truck i dont think it needs a xl.
what do u guys think? |
i don't think in general.. if thats of any help..
|
does the e-savage use sliders like the e-maxx?
|
In stock form, i thought it did.
You can check the HPI site and download the exploded view. |
2 Attachment(s)
got the motor installed on the truck i had to do some trimming but it looks pretty clean.
|
Looks good venom.
|
Heh.... Built in motor clamp.:027:
|
I, too, would shell out my hard earned money for a factory E-Revo. Just in case there are any Traxxas employee lurkers out there... :-)
Hey Hyper, what led you to mount your ESC in the spare motor location, rather than placing it back on the stock ESC platform? And does the Castle ESC not come with an on/off switch? I noticed your toggle mounted into the battery connection... |
I mounted it next to the motor because that motor has very short wires on it and wouldn't quite reach over to the platform. I always break off those cheap plastic on/off switches that come with the mambamax. The toggle switch you see is just a replacement switch I found at Radio Shack. I taped the switch to the battery wires just to keep it from flopping around
