Thought Id say hello

Hello, I'm new here, but not new to this forum. I have actually been looking at this forum for quite a while now, but never got around to signing up. I love brushless, just like almost everyone here, and I owned 2 brushless rc's. A rc18mt running a mamba 6800 on 6 cells which will soon be 7 cells or lipo hopefully. I also have a brushless stampede with all FLM parts and running the Novak GTB 4.5. I got it before the mamba max came out unfortunately. But I have sold this one, so as of right now, I just have the rc18mt. Within the next month or so, I will begin building another brushless rc which I plan to have for quite a while. I haven't really decided, but probably a g2r e-revo, e-maxx/supermaxx, or an xterminator which I can get for cheap from my brother and then of course there is the baja 5b which I saw drive in the sand the other day, and now I am just in love with it, lol.

Well, anyway, here are pictures of both my rc's. Well, I only have one now:

The first two are body on, sorry, I dont have any body off rigth now. And the rest are just pictures of my brushless Stampede I took while a friend was driving. Enjoy: :027:

Cool welcome to the forums and glad to see you have found a home here use the search tool it is very helpful on your journey to build one of the above many people have built gmaxxes, supermaxx, erevos, and i think one person even did a xtermination or a xtm or something. The search will answer many questions and it will show you lots of pics of many of our rides here so you can get an idea of what yours might turn out to be.

jnev 01.23.2007 11:30 PM

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will definately be using the search feature before asking any big questions. I am rpetty sure it is metalman with the brushless xterminator.

Anyway, I was wondering if you all can give me suggestions on a new project. Like mentioned above, an e-revo would be great as well as the an e-maxx. I would ideally like it to be brushless. I only bash, so I need something strong and also, where I do go to normally bash, it is where there is a lot of sand and quite a few sand dunes, so I would be running paddles no matter what most likely. This is why I was considerign the baja 5b to get, but it is also pretty pricey.

Any ideas are welcome. Thanks.

GorillaMaxx360 01.23.2007 11:33 PM

it all depends on your budget and your needs.
You already expressed your needs but now it is time to find out your budget so we can go from there.

jnev 01.23.2007 11:38 PM

It will probably turn out to be a long term project. So I will be spending a little here and there. I will probably start out with about $300 - $350, maybe $400 at most just for the rc or possibly kit, minus the bl system because that will come later and closer to summer. Then before the brushless system, I will be buying the needed parts for it to be able to take the extra power.

MetalMan 01.24.2007 01:05 AM

If you become interested in the X-Terminator conversion, just keep in mind that battery mounting might be difficult depending on the batteries you use. The chassis is pretty narrow, so you might need to mount the batts on the mud guards. Then, there are the screw posts on the mud guards :024:. Soon I'll be finishing up my X-Terminator, and will update my thread (if you're interested in seeing it). However, I would recommend against converting a X-Terminator if there isn't a Hobby People near you to get parts from. I work at a Hobby People, so parts for my X-Terminator are readily available :).

jnev 01.24.2007 02:16 AM

My brother also actually works at hobby people, so I'll be getting discounts from him. :027: I also thought that a 4wd buddy may not be to good in sand either, lol. After looking through these forums a little closer, I am now considering a brushless savage using the kershaw designs motor mount. The only problem is that it only mounts 7 cells on each side using there batteries :024: . Does anyone have exerience with it? I would much prefer Mike to do it, so if he can please let me know.

Thanks for the help.

MetalMan 01.24.2007 02:31 AM

Just out of curiousity, which Hobby People does your brother work at?

Serum 01.24.2007 02:44 AM

Hi RC, welcome to the forum..

Let's get you a setup that smokes your brother .26.. :p

captain harlock 01.24.2007 07:19 AM

Yeah!
2280/7 with 12s. Smoky and the Bandit.

jollyjumper 01.24.2007 07:39 AM

hello, have fun while you stay here.
nice 1/18th.

Procharged5.0 01.24.2007 10:37 AM

Hey RC! Glad to see that you've joined us over here! Welcome to the forums!

jnev 01.24.2007 11:15 AM

Thanks for the welcome guys. I am hoping to a have a set up to compete with my bro's revo. :dft003:

Metalman - you have a PM.

Mike.L 01.24.2007 04:49 PM

oh hey there wont be any competition your the automatic winner hands down! welcome!

Sylvester 01.24.2007 05:05 PM

Welcome RC!

Almost any bl system will smoke a nitro.

Serum 01.24.2007 05:09 PM

And if you follow the strict and pattented guidelines of bombproof, you will literary smoke nitro..

jnev 01.24.2007 05:20 PM

That is what I hope. What are the guidelines of bombproof? :002:

Anyway, does any one have any recomendations for a new project? I only bash, so I would need something strong and something that has fairly decent protection against sand, since that is where I usually bash. I also dont particualrly want a st because it will be too simialr to my previous brushless pede. I was thinking something bigger like a maxx, e-revo, or savage, but any recomendations are welcome. This will also be a slow project so when upgrading is finished, it'll be a while from now, probably mid to late summer. My price ranges to start with are also on page one.

Thanks.

Sylvester 01.24.2007 05:33 PM

For a basher, a stock converted revo chassis, rpm arms and a nice bl system will be nice. The revo is a very nice basher, the emaxx would be nice too, but i like the suspension geometry of the revo, and its cheaper!

jnev 01.24.2007 10:12 PM

That is what I was really considering. Is the revo stock chassis better/stronger than the gorillamaxx chassis? Also, on the stock chassis, can the single speed conversion be mounted?

Thanks

Sylvester 01.24.2007 10:16 PM

The g-maxx is good, i had the g2r but hated how low the chassis was to the ground for bashing, i mounted a single speed gmaxx tranny to the stock revo chassis, made some battery mounts bla bla bla and was a VERY good basher!

Imo, take the stock for bashing.

jnev 01.24.2007 10:25 PM

That si probably what I will do then hopefully. Does the s-s conversion mount directly to the chassis, or is there custom work involved? I dont have any machining skills so I would need a custom motor mount and battery mounts made by mike or whoever knows how to make them.

Thanks for the help.

Sylvester 01.24.2007 10:29 PM

To make the tranny fit is quite an easy task, you just have to machine like 1-2mm off the side and it will directly fit into the space, than some drilling in the chassis so the tranny will fit. Just a tip, when you have the tranny in place keep the dogbones in when you are marking the holes to drill in the chassis, its just so you know the dogbones are even on both ends.

jnev 01.24.2007 10:31 PM

Thanks for the tip and all the help. Hopefully, I'll be able to make my purchase fairly soon, since I know someone that has a revo for sale.

Sylvester 01.24.2007 10:53 PM

Good luck with the buy!

GorillaMaxx360 01.24.2007 11:10 PM

you will like the revo a lot very durable.

jnev 01.25.2007 02:47 AM

Since most likely, I'll be running a monster truck (hopefully e-revo), I will need to buy a new charger. I will probably start out with nimh batteries and later on move to lipo. But for the charger, have any of you had exerience with the MRC superbrain 989? Also, before I go lipo, when charging nimh batteries, will I be able to charge two batteries at once using a "Y" harness? I also heard that they tend to false peak sometimes. Is this true and can it be fixed?

Absolutely! :024:

GorillaMaxx360 01.25.2007 08:53 AM

The ice is increadable charger and it does lipo and it is so easy to use

jnev 01.25.2007 10:36 AM

I was thinking about the ice, but it also needs a power supply which will then be another $60. It also can only charge 10 cells I think, so I would have to charge 1 battery at a time.

Ive been using the 989 since it came out and its darn nice I gotta say. Best bang for the buck out there for do everything chargers IMO.

Sylvester 01.25.2007 05:04 PM

I think the 989 is a nice charger for the money and specs.

jnev 01.26.2007 12:14 AM

Then that is the charger I'll probably go with then. Will I be able to charge two batteries at once using a "Y" harness?

Thanks agin for all the info.

squeeforever 01.26.2007 12:46 AM

Yes.

BlackedOutREVO 01.30.2007 02:42 PM

how does the y harnes work? and how would u hook up the ballencer to 2 packs?

id use to max amps 8k mah packs with the hyperion ballencer

jnev 01.30.2007 07:08 PM

The Y harness is one set of dean that is just wired so there will be 2 deans sets on the other side. The charger just has to be capable of chargering that many cells. I am not so sure about the balancer though.

Sylvester 01.30.2007 07:10 PM

Im not sure about the wiring of the balancers.. maybe metalman can scope in on this, or just ask mike or austin to make you one.

jnev 01.30.2007 07:18 PM

Sorry to be such a newb, :010: , but who is Austin? :013:

Sylvester 01.30.2007 07:31 PM

The owner of Maxamps. Its ok, every one starts off as a newb!

jnev 01.30.2007 07:38 PM

Oh, right... how did I not know that, lol. I have bought for them before, lol.
