trakpower vs orion

2 Attachment(s)
or the trakpower's alot better then the orion?
also how do you balance these kinds of lipo's?
dont mind the amainhobby on the pics, sorry bout that.

captain harlock 02.13.2007 08:28 AM

The CF edition by orion cannot be compared to the TrakPower( first being 3200mah of capacity, latter is 4900mah capacity).

The TrakPower would easily give more juice, but if you bring in the Orion 4800mah lipo pack, the TrakPower will have a very strong rival to confront.

Still, though, the TrakPower can hold more volts at higher amp rates, I don't know if the Orion has the same capability.

Also, you need a special harness for both the Orion and TrakPower for balancing. FlightPower has the harness for the TrakPower. Kokam has the Orion's harness.

Also, make note that the orion 4800mah pack is pricyier than the TrakPower.(O= 130+ dollars, T= 119 dollars or something).

jollyjumper 02.13.2007 11:02 AM

well i actually meant if i should upgrade to trakpower or should stick to the orions for my twin force?
i allready have 2 orions.

captain harlock 02.13.2007 11:16 AM

Which ones?

neweuser 02.13.2007 01:11 PM

The orions are ok, but if you can, get the trakpowers, they are to be some of the best according to Serum. He also has a data sheet on those as well some where in another thread around here somewhere!

jollyjumper 02.13.2007 01:26 PM

there site is down now but i know what you mean.

captain harlock 02.13.2007 02:28 PM

Go to http://www.oople.com/rc/photos/reviewtrakpowerlipo/

jollyjumper 02.13.2007 04:09 PM

thank you captian, but i was about to look at that all by myself.
by the way i have 3200 lipo's.
they are 450watts continous while the trakpower are 700watt.

captain harlock 02.14.2007 05:05 AM

Well, you know where to go now..:)

jollyjumper 02.14.2007 06:08 AM

if i have an 120/20 warrior and bk wanderer 6xl for example, would i see a big improvement? this would be in my 8+ pounds MT.

captain harlock 02.14.2007 12:11 PM

Well, I can't answer this. I'm pretty new to the MT world.
The only way to check the difference between the 3200mah orion and the trakpower is to use the eagletree bywhich you can measure the amp rates, watts and voltage.

Also, if you have a radar, you can check the speed of your truck with both the trakpower and orion's cf cased 3200mah pack.

Ofcourse, according to the specs of both packs, the trakpower has the upper hand easily and you'll surely feel a difference in power and speed.

jollyjumper 02.14.2007 12:56 PM

lets wait for the more expierenced guys to chime in.;)

neweuser 02.14.2007 01:51 PM

I run the 12020 on 10xl with 5s lipo. I don't think you would want a 6xl though. Maybe a 7xl on the trak powers would be nice, or even an 8xl geared...

jollyjumper 02.14.2007 04:33 PM

i'm kinda stuck with the gearing if i have to stick to the tranny.
have to start working on that center diff-idea.
then i will be around 15/1, now i'm around 20/1 or up.
that what makes me look at the 6xl, cuz i only get 30mph then.
would it run to hot?

neweuser 02.14.2007 05:26 PM

Well, what are you running for spur and pinion? In what truck?

Serum 02.14.2007 06:02 PM

Trakpower 700 watts? not really.. they claim to stay above 3V on 50C bursts. that would make a 2S pack a 1400watt burstpack.. Have not seen any graphs confirming this, but this was told by flightpower.

jollyjumper 02.15.2007 05:13 AM

i mean 700 watt continu. maybe more.
i have a truck with 6" tires, 3.31/1 diffs and 2.36/1 tranny.
spur is 50, pinions from 17~22 fit.
that leave's me with a range of 22.99/1~17.76/1.

captain harlock 02.15.2007 02:29 PM

Your Kyosho truck is so light that the TrakPower is surely going to make it fly like a hawk.

Bottom line:

BUY IT WITH MY THUMB UP!

jollyjumper 02.16.2007 08:24 AM

should i stick to 4s for the trakpower packs?
cuz i cant go to 6s if i would get the trakpower, i can only mount 2 batts.
:007:

jollyjumper 02.16.2007 12:25 PM

New 20C MaxAmps Lipo 6000HV 2S2P 7.4V Pack
how does this one compare to the trakpower?

neweuser 02.16.2007 01:03 PM

The trak powers hold their voltage better under discharge.

jollyjumper 02.16.2007 01:26 PM

thanks.

Serum 02.16.2007 02:00 PM

yeah.. much better.

Hopefully the 5000's offer more power. perhaps they are an option.

But 4S is quite a hand full already, 6S is a whole different bag.

I would take a smaller step, so 5S is a good in betweener..

glassdoctor 02.16.2007 02:53 PM

I'm thinking I sould try a 5s pack of these new cells and drop the gearing in my buggy/truggy. I'm curious to see how much the runtime is affected.

At 4s, the 5000mah may barely make the 20 min mark, but maybe I could drop the mah per minute just a bit with a lower gear/high volt. I'm not sure if the gearing will offset the potenial of higher current from the higher voltage.

jollyjumper 02.16.2007 04:39 PM

i'll go for 4s.
trakpowers.
lookin where i can easely buy at the moment.

nieles 02.16.2007 05:01 PM

http://cgi.ebay.nl/TrakPower-Lipo-ba...QQcmdZViewItem

there are 2 on ebay.

jollyjumper 02.16.2007 05:04 PM

thanks for the link, nieles.
but i dont really wanna buy of ebay.
i rather support the LHS. or mike.

Serum 02.16.2007 06:10 PM

Then i think the LHS is where you need to be.

jollyjumper 02.16.2007 06:16 PM

yeah, there are numerous shops in belgium that sell flightpower.
but does this mean they will also have trakpower?
i would want 2 packs and the balancer.
i do know a shop in holland does the trakpower packs and balancer.

Serum 02.16.2007 06:19 PM

pkracing?

jollyjumper 02.16.2007 06:23 PM

ha yes, that the one.
could come up with it.:mad:1

captain harlock 02.17.2007 02:21 PM

I'd rather buy them from www.duralitebatteries.com
A very good place to buy the trakpower packs along with the trakpower balancing connector and flightpower balancer at the best prices.

jollyjumper 02.17.2007 02:25 PM

they are cheap there, that for shure.
but i buy as much as i can locally.
support your local shops.:027:

captain harlock 02.17.2007 02:27 PM

So what are you gonna do, wise guy?:)

jollyjumper 02.17.2007 02:36 PM

buy them from www.pkracing.nl i think.
hehe, i do appreciate the link you guys give me.
but i just have difficulties ordering from usa and other far away countries.
but i will have to get stuff from rc-m mike in the coming months.
so i'm kinda in need of a idea on how to pay to a usa bank account.
i can only wire transfer money with the bank account i got. ( not visa or mastercard obviously).
