BEC in Micro-T?

Hey, I have a Micro-T in a box sitting in my room that I was going to sell (its still stealed and brand new). I was going to run it with some buddies, but they never bought one, so I never opened it.

I want to run something with more power than the stock battery, but dont want to drop the cash on brushless. However, I dont want to risk the speed control by running 2S lipo. I was thinking of running the 2S through a BEC first, so the ESC receives only 6v. This should help alot, since the ESC will receive an absolute max of 6v and not stuff like 8.4 on a freshly charged pack.

The stock battery is 150mah, and I heard it runs for like 10 minutes, so amp draw can't be more than an amp or so at most. I figure a 3A BEC should be plenty for it.

Any thoughts?

That should work fine. I would go with the one www.dimensionengineering.com has. It has a built in LVC as well. I to was thinking the exact same thing...

Thats a great site squee - has a bunch of cool products.

Too bad they don't make the "SmartBEC" in 6V. They only make it in 5V. That should still provide a pretty noticable increase over stock, just not as much as I had hoped. I will keep shopping around though.

I also found another problem. Doesn't the Micro T use an integrated receiver/ESC? This would prevent the ability of using a the Cutoff.

BlackedOutREVO 03.01.2007 10:49 PM

no bp theres no need, the stock can do it just fine, ur just adding on un needed wieght

squeeforever 03.01.2007 10:50 PM

Unfortunately, it does...If you open up the Micro-T, could you measure the battery compartment for me please? I just placed an order for a 460mah LiPo cell, and a few small things to build the pack. It should fit, or if not, I think I can make it fit. Its only about 8mm longer...

Are you sure the stocker can take double the voltage it is intended for?

BlackedOutREVO 03.01.2007 11:14 PM

yup, its actually rated for 7.2 volts

go ask anyone at one18th, they all run the stock sreedo no probs... some upgrade to a novak speedo, but most run the stock stuff, the motor and speedo does fine, and i have tired it to with a lipo from my buddys micro t,i used a max amps 2 cell 150 mah i think and it had room to spare

BlackedOutREVO 03.01.2007 11:18 PM

heres a pic to prove it stright from losi, look at the sticker, it says 4.8 volts to 7.2

http://i1.tinypic.com/4dz0sag.jpg

BP-Revo 03.01.2007 11:23 PM

In the manual it says otherwise... It says max is 4.8 and use of Lipo voids it etc etc....

BlackedOutREVO 03.01.2007 11:26 PM

bull, it works fine man, as long as the pack isnt insane mah.. squee is probably pushing it, id do 220mah MAX after that is when probs happen because it runs for waay over 30 mins

BrianG 03.01.2007 11:27 PM

Exceeding the mah rating won't cause any problems other than fitment. Actually, it's better for the battery to discharge less than it's rated for...

BlackedOutREVO 03.01.2007 11:29 PM

yeh it will because they run soo long and heat up the motor, and speedo... the motors rated for 4.8 volts so ur wearing it that mush faster with lipos, and speedo heats up

squeeforever 03.01.2007 11:35 PM

Thats why I'm only gonna run 1 LiPo cell for now...

BlackedOutREVO 03.01.2007 11:39 PM

why????? do u want a vid??? or what??? lol it works fine

That's a weak reason! Sounds like some effort needs to be made in cooling if that's true. :)

BlackedOutREVO 03.01.2007 11:44 PM

its the reason tho.... and lil a fan the size of what? a motor shaft??? :D

A video would be nice, but either way...I'm not worried about it since I'm not 100% if the battery will fit. So why spend another $8 on an extra cell to make a 2S if it won't fit?

BlackedOutREVO 03.01.2007 11:56 PM

true, and mah id be good, i c what ur doing lol i tohught u were going to do a 480 mah 2 cell.. nvr mind

and i need to find it first lol

squeeforever 03.01.2007 11:58 PM

I had planned on it, but then I desided not to...

BlackedOutREVO 03.01.2007 11:59 PM

yeh, do u think 1 cell is enuff?

BlackedOutREVO 03.02.2007 12:01 AM

here yah guys go! a whole thread on it, and thers a vid in there also

http://www.one18th.com/forums/showthread.php?t=45248

im lookin for the other vid

EDIT:

heres another one =)

squeeforever 03.02.2007 12:03 AM

Yea. 1 cell should be enough its its 4.2 fully charged. Whats the stock pack voltage fully charged?

BlackedOutREVO 03.02.2007 12:05 AM

around 5 volts cummin off my charger at .5 amps

BP-Revo 03.02.2007 01:36 AM

Squee - the stock pack is ~10.6mm thick, each lipo cell is 3mm thick, so it should fit fine.

I'm still deciding on what to do...but chances are I will go ahead and run 2S if I decide to keep the truck.

I am wondering if I could somehow stuff a Mamba 8000 in there and get in the 100mph club lol.

BlackedOutREVO 03.02.2007 01:41 AM

yeh rite LOL

that would be like a mm in a 18 t or mini lol

all tho someone at one18th has a mm5700kv motor and mm speedo in his rc18t lol, he runs with 3 cell lipos, and now 2 cell limns

BP-Revo 03.02.2007 02:01 AM

Yea...I was about to say there is a guy with a MM in a 18T...

I have a strong desire to run something crazy in my G2R. Something like Dual 1950's lol. Of course, logic and wallet don't agree.

BlackedOutREVO 03.02.2007 02:48 AM

no logic aggrees 100000% :D

its the wallet being to skinny, ur wallt is the only thing in life u want fat lol, g/f stays skinny =P jk

BP-Revo 03.02.2007 02:50 AM

I don't think the pavement on my housing track would hold up to dual 1950's LOL

BlackedOutREVO 03.02.2007 08:26 PM

lol ur diffs wouldnt like it much either :D

BlackedOutREVO 03.02.2007 10:46 PM

heres ur proof again from losi!!!! losi has a lipo kit for it now :D!!!!!! 2 cell lipo!

http://www.teamlosi.com/Products/Def...rodID=LOSB0862

BP-Revo 03.02.2007 11:53 PM

I stand corrected.

Yea... my diff's would just commit suicide up before I even set the mesh.

BlackedOutREVO 03.03.2007 12:11 AM

hehe, i know what im doing lol
