gmaxx or 1/8 scale?
I want to get a race truck but can't decide wether to just put so money into my emaxx or use that money to get a buggy/truggy?
In all honesty, it depends on how much money you plan on spending. Is your Maxx already BL? What hopups does it have?
nothing really. i have a set of 40 series crime fighters on wabash wheels.
Then it would really depend on how much you plan on spending. For the Maxx to be a good racer, you need a 3.3 setup, steel idlers in the tranny, beefed up diffs, BL, and a Gorillmaxx chassis.

I think that a lot of the things you need to uprade on the e-maxx will already be good enough out of the box on most of the 1/8th's (except for the brushless of course, and the rest of the electrics), so to me a 1/8th kinda makes more sence if you want it to be an all out racer, but I still like my e-maxx. |
Sum up the costs of all the good beefy parts that you'll be spending on your Maxx and if they easily top $1000, I say pick up a Kyosho ST-R or a Mugen MBX-5T.
Mike can easily pick them up for ya with nice prices and pro mods. |
I was kind of going towards the 1/8 scale. but then the next qustion comes up buggy or truggy?
Is the track you're going to race at really bumpy? If it is, then a truggy would be better for the increased ground clearance. Also think about how many people at you local track have each one.
I know that you already have the maxx, but since I put my muggy together, the buggy has been neglected. The truck is just a lot more fun to mess with. The conversion is also a bit easier with the truck because it's easier to fit a big battery under the body and the suspension carries the weight better.

Pros: Better rough track handling Likes rougher terrain growing class more room for elecs Cons: Heavier Costlier growing class not a buggy ;) Buggy Pros: Sexiest Bashable and trackable with people ALWAYS showing up to race (truggy too, but usually more people in the buggy class (here anyways)) Cost less Faster with equal elecs Cons: Less rough track ability but still can take it Less ability to run in grass if you bash less room for elecs That's just a short list with my opinions, but if you do that, it's easy to see which one you want more. |
Right now i like the 8ight and the 8ight-t
what exactly would i need for the gmaxx?
Here is my shopping list from my completed truck:-

quick qustion: can you use revo springs on e-maxx shocks? i'm trying the 4 shock thing. one more thing can you use revo shocks on the e?
way to short i'd say. with mods maybe:032:
Just go with the UE if you want 4 shocks IMO, it's what I use, well, in the rear, in the fornt I use the mutilator front shocks which are about the same length as Big Bores. but you can use UE all around.
what are ue?
unlimited engineering (supermaxx) shocks.
I saw those diffs couldn't find the shocks.do you mean the ones on the first page of the emaxx hop ups?

also i may want to do an elitric conversion. maybe the hellfire ss it's only 284 on tower hobbies. problem is i'm not old enough for a job so i would have to save up. i could use that as my race car.
ya those. how do you insert the links.
found some lexan that i could make something like the g3 org3r chasis. it's 0.90 thick and cost $38.00
sorry i ment 0.090. thats on just searching 5 min. the piece is 24" by 48" a little to big.

Some tips:
To insert links: copy and paste the link url into the reply box. And its not neccessary to make a new post everytime you think of something else to add to what you've already said- it might be mistaken for post whoring / an attempt to boost your # of posts. In terms of making your own chassis out of a flat sheet- it would be very difficult without a CNC machine & 3D modeling software. You would be better off buying a G3 or FLM chassis and the alloy bulkheads/towers & using 3.3 driveline components- a much cheaper method and still quite strong. if you arent old enough to have a job then it will take you a long time to save up the money to do the project properly. A 1/8 buggy conversion can be done much more simply & for a fraction of the cost. Take a look at the Candymans build- ignoring the custom chassis the conversion is simple enough- one custom motor mount, some battery trays and a custom servo mount are all thats really needed. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=6520 |
