Stock revo conversion;

Well.. After some inspiring days in Switzerland last year, i kind of fell in love with Dafni's revo's.. his basher-bitch, as he calls it, seems to be a pretty tough and ever going concept. (congrats on her Daf.. :) )

Made me want to make a revo that could hold almost all the available lipo-packs, and up to 16nimh cells (8 on each side). In order to make this happen, the mounting flaps for the front servo where in the way.. Well; this was the biggest problem I came across. nothing big though. More on this later, for now some pics about the ongoing process...

The frame without the flaps, left one small ear on it, for the radiobox. Since the frame is rather 3D, it's fair easy to work away all the wiring IMO.. (again, more on this later)

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053290017044713986"><img src="http://lh6.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiDkfzz6UgI/AAAAAAAAAvI/klh7jn02Mtk/s800/CIMG5364.JPG" /></a>

since the two angles on the side of the frame have a different angle, this was needed to have both the batterieholders sit at the same angle;
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053290029929615890"><img src="http://lh5.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiDkgjz6UhI/AAAAAAAAAvQ/IAX9jKu4fH4/s800/CIMG5367.JPG" /></a>

Mounted, it looks like this;

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053290042814517794"><img src="http://lh4.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiDkhTz6UiI/AAAAAAAAAvY/Avh0AQdkzxE/s800/CIMG5368.JPG" /></a>

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053290059994386994"><img src="http://lh4.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiDkiTz6UjI/AAAAAAAAAvg/IVoTT_j-JlU/s800/CIMG5369.JPG" /></a>

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053290072879288898"><img src="http://lh3.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiDkjDz6UkI/AAAAAAAAAvo/ukD44Di2rZY/s800/CIMG5370.JPG" /></a>

The CF angle come from Graphite Elegance.. 1/8th thick, 2X1" angles, i will make it lighter once all the holes are in place, I'll give them a neat shape.
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053290098649092690"><img src="http://lh5.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiDkkjz6UlI/AAAAAAAAAvw/MwCJuLyuoBA/s800/CIMG5371.JPG" /></a>

Perfect for 8 Nimh's;
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053290120123929186"><img src="http://lh6.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiDklzz6UmI/AAAAAAAAAv4/ub_BqKue3lU/s800/CIMG5372.JPG" /></a>

steering servo hang out; (used an FLM servo mount to hold her in place)
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053290141598765682"><img src="http://lh3.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiDknDz6UnI/AAAAAAAAAwA/vSXNYo7Ux34/s800/CIMG5373.JPG" /></a>

And this is where it will be positioned on the frame;
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053290197433340578"><img src="http://lh4.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiDkqTz6UqI/AAAAAAAAAwY/hKRp4CkiQEs/s800/CIMG5376.JPG" /></a>

More to follow soon.

Dafni 04.14.2007 12:05 PM

... and the saga continues! :)

Serum 04.14.2007 03:39 PM

Small update;

Here is how the rear of the batterieholders are supported;
It also helps keeping the servohorn from bending, since it sits at the bottom of the truck.
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053369083097666226"><img src="http://lh4.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiEsaDz6UrI/AAAAAAAAAwk/tS2sRkGj6J0/s800/CIMG5378.JPG" /></a>

The bulks needed a bit of work; Initially these holes are used for the nitro enginemount. they come out under an angle. I drilled the holes thru (straight) and put two screws in it, that are screwed into this threaded spacer;
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053369113162437330"><img src="http://lh3.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiEsbzz6UtI/AAAAAAAAAw0/vcX9uViBekA/s800/CIMG5381.JPG" /></a>

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053369130342306530"><img src="http://lh3.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiEsczz6UuI/AAAAAAAAAw8/Nl5qXBS0ueA/s800/CIMG5382.JPG" /></a>

and when put in place, it looks like this; Next thing to do is drill a few holes..
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.nl/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5053369147522175730"><img src="http://lh3.google.nl/image/buikpijn/RiEsdzz6UvI/AAAAAAAAAxE/1dUlwOiSSW0/s800/CIMG5383.JPG" /></a>

Sylvester 04.14.2007 03:48 PM

Looks great!

squeeforever 04.14.2007 04:11 PM

Serum, looks great! I guess you plan on doing something like on the Dark Impacts where the servo is at the back and a very long aluminum rod runs from the front to back for the steering link?

Mike.L 04.14.2007 04:26 PM

Wow thats simply amazing i just wait for more! Keep it up serum!

GorillaMaxx360 04.14.2007 04:50 PM

nice serum.\

It looks very clean and neat just the way i like it

Serum 04.14.2007 05:33 PM

Squee;

the plan was, indeed, to use a long rod. I've got this 3mm titanium rod i can use as a turnbuckle. only need to make some thread on it, and it's good to go.

Just finished hooking up the batterieholders, still having doubts on how to mount the motor. (using a stock e-maxx transmission) My initial idea was to make a motorplate that enables the motor to sit on the opposite direction of the transmission. kind of like the original gmaxx mount, only fixed to the gearbox. (this way i could mount the motor lower) It would use spacers to mount the motor onto another plate.

Good thing is i've got some driveshafts wandering around that are a perfect drop in for front and rear.. So basically, this project comes together pretty easy!

squeeforever 04.14.2007 05:55 PM

Serum, there was another member around here that did the same thing, I just can't remember his name. He had a Ofna Hyper 7 PBS buggy with a Maxximum and 18.97, and a Revo conversion that he had the same setup in, but sold the Revo for the buggy and then sold the buggy.

BrianG 04.14.2007 06:55 PM

Looks nice so far Serum! I like using the stock chassis too since it is more custom. Can't wait to see the finished product! Aren't you done yet? ;)

jnev 04.15.2007 03:08 AM

Looks great!! If I was to convert the revo, I would also use the stock chassis... you just ahve so many mroe options in where everythign mounts and how.

AAngel 04.15.2007 04:15 AM

Serum,

As usual, very nice work. Once I get off of my 1/8 scale kick, I'd like to do a Revo; but first, the Serpent!

MetalMan 04.15.2007 11:51 AM

That's a nice way to do it! Will you be running a center diff, or will you go with a "slipperential" type of thing like I have in my Revo?

Serum 04.15.2007 11:56 AM

I've got some parts to make a slipperential like diff, but i do have got the right shafts at this point to use the maxx tranny.. And i have got a maxx tranny, with strobe.. arh, a centerdiff would be my favorite. :) let's see if i know a person that can make me some shafts.. (wink)

Mr.lst 04.15.2007 12:50 PM

It looks good but we need to see the finished product now!!!

Dafni 04.15.2007 01:04 PM

One day we'll NEED to race!

Serum 04.15.2007 01:18 PM

Amen Daf.. We sure need to!

rchippie 04.15.2007 03:13 PM

Rene your work looks awsome as usual :027: . As you know i have a EVO done in the daf style. It's cool but i think it's time to let it go & start another project. I like how your using CF for the battery trays.

Bobbyray 04.15.2007 04:28 PM

I'm new at this and would also like to build a Revo using stock plate, is the Revo trany not a way to go, what problems exist with it.

concreat 04.16.2007 06:55 AM

I am gathering info on E-revo projects for my own and this project has given me a lot of ideas and info! Great job so far serum!!!

Maybe you want to look at this too:
http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/showthread.php?t=218
It started it all... this conversion was done more than 2 years ago!
Not saying it's anything like Serums here, just wanted to let you know.

concreat 04.16.2007 08:42 PM

thank you for the thread dafni! you did a great conversion yourself what speeds where you getting?
by the way does the e-maxx tranny fit strate into the revo chassis or do you have to make mods, nobody shows the chassis without out the tranny in?

jnev 04.16.2007 08:49 PM

I don't have the revo, but from what I hear, you will have to widen some of the holes or drill new ones to allow the e-maxx diff into the stock revo chassis.

Correct me if I'm wrong...

zeropointbug 04.18.2007 10:45 PM

Nice work Serum! You crazy Dutch b@$t@rd, YEAH! :018:

cadima 04.19.2007 10:21 PM

Nice Serum! Keep it coming....can't wait to see it together.:027:

Okay! Replace the word diff with tranny and thats it. :027: I am liking the project so far- one can never get tired of seeing conversions.... no two are ever alike.

aqwut 05.03.2007 11:04 AM

Nice job Serum, I always like the quality and look of your workmanship...

Serum 05.06.2007 01:32 PM

The lady is nearly finished;
<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5061499988819596946"><img src="http://lh3.google.com/image/buikpijn/Rj4PbEA8VpI/AAAAAAAAAz0/B6k4zzR5Fr4/s800/CIMG5436.JPG" /></a>

Here is the steering link from aluminum with hard steel M3 inserts;

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5061500023179335330"><img src="http://lh3.google.com/image/buikpijn/Rj4PdEA8VqI/AAAAAAAAAz8/ECPGuhDgysA/s800/CIMG5437.JPG" /></a>

One well placed hole to reach the servoscrew;

<a href="http://picasaweb.google.com/buikpijn/StockRevoConversion/photo#5061500040359204530"><img src="http://lh3.google.com/image/buikpijn/Rj4PeEA8VrI/AAAAAAAAA0E/psRkR95a8j8/s800/CIMG5440.JPG" /></a>

Using this ball-stud from Serpent on the servo, they are really handy, it has got a M3 thread till the middle and from there it fits a 3mm allen key..

AAngel 05.06.2007 01:43 PM

Serum, what are you using to bend that aluminum plate. Your bends look really clean.

Serum 05.06.2007 01:54 PM

two wooden plates and a clamp.. (and some elbow grease)

aqwut 05.06.2007 08:21 PM

beautiful job!!...

cemetery gates 05.06.2007 09:39 PM

Cool! You always do a very clean job Serum!

Bye:018:

Mr.lst 05.11.2007 04:45 AM

why aren't you done yet? Just Kidding!

Serum 05.13.2007 10:04 AM

Yeah, it's about done.. I thought the build-up was more interesting than the finished product..

I want to test a 4 or 5S 2P 10000mAh pack in it.. With a slow turning KV motor, geared for about 25-30mph it should be a nice endurance basher..

20,000mah on a slow motor?! :dft008:

Your transmitter batteries will die before the truck and you will be 1 year older after the run! LOL!

Lets see some new pics, Rene!

Serum 05.13.2007 12:17 PM

i meant 10000 mAh in total.. :)

Which should set me back 1/2 year in age according to your calculations.

LOL!

What motor are you planning to run in this?

Serum 06.01.2007 06:54 PM

Don't know what motor i will use in it..

Somehow i'd like to test a robbe roxxy inrunner on her.. But they are not available yet. so perhaps a 9Xl for the time being. or a 1950/8 arh, on 4S and geared for the speed i had in mind, the feigao would be fine as it is i guess.

Mr.lst 06.11.2007 07:34 AM

come on let's see the finished product! it's been a while since your last update.

Serum 06.11.2007 01:45 PM

Valid point..

Still waiting on some things.. Don't know if to use 4S2P 5000 packs or 14/16 nimh cells.. Meant to be a basher.. but an endurance basher would be nice too.. :)
