My CRT.5 conversion
3 Attachment(s)
Well I see there is a couple of CRT.5 conversion projects going on here this is what I have came up with. I wanted a car to run the Mamba max motors I have and once I saw the CRT.5 I new it would be perfect with 1/8th scale diff gears and suspension design in a 1/12th scale car it should be a great platform for brushless motors. :)
I have a 5700kv Mamba and decided to go with a 3s 4000hv Maxamps lipo pack to keep the weight down looking at the numbers 50-60mph should be posible and the weight is right at 4lbs. I went with the Kyosho 46t spur to keep the pinions reliable I stole some parts off my full size CRT the rear aluminum diff mount and drive cup and pin for the diff gear along with the front center shaft off my HPI savage. I also moved the center diff over to the right side of the chassis to get the battery closer to the centerline and also allow more room for a 4-5s pack later.:) |
nice truck Jammin. Where's the ESC?
|
NIce man i like the .5
|
Very nice!! Looks really clean and ncie set up. Should fly on 3s... :027: .
Where will you mount the esc, doesn't seem to be much more room left. |
How did you fit the kyosho spur gear on there?

The Kyosho spur bolts right up to the CRT.5 diff the only problem is the bearings. Check out RICEMANS post in the brushless section for the details on how to install the Kyosho spur to the CRT.5 diff. Here is a pic of the parts side by side you can see the diference in bearing sizes.
I'm working on the ESC mount now it's going to end up just above the motor in the center of the chassis. :) |

Where did you get the motor mount and the battery mount? What kinde of pitch is it on the kyosho spur |
in the future (as soon), Jammin ofna maybe consider E-CRT or E-CRT.5 Version.
this is i know news. |

IT'S ALIVE
I just got it done to late to drive it but everything works. :018: I used the ESC off my CRT so the UBEC was wired in so I decided to leave it makes it easier if I want to play with a 4s lipo later and I like the extra voltage to the servo. Anyone thinking about this conversion you can probably use the RC Monster motor mount for the Jammin buggy to convert it with a couple of washers under the front diff mount to level out the center diff it will make it alot easier to get the motor mounted up. :) |
Did you use the CRT mount that mike sells?
|
Everything looks great. Glad to see you here. :)
|
Hey this one looks great. Nice and clean.
|
Thanks this thing is a rocket on 3s I had a chance to run a few packs today and play around with the ESC to get the power to the ground. Temps were right around 140deg in the motor and ESC the battery started to get warm also whitch was strange? It got up to about 120deg when I was running in the grass to see how everything would do with a load.
I made my own mount but used a jammin buggy aluminum center diff mount so with Mikes Jammin buggy mount I think the conversion will be alot easier to do with the Kyosho spur. :) |
Looks awesome. Try to get some video, will you. All these crt.5's popping up, now makes me want to convert one.
|
Here's a vid I put on youtube www.YOUTUBE.com/watch?v=DnD6DVYfx2A
|
Looks fast! It's funny to see that little thing zooming around compared to the bigger 8 and 10 scale vehicles, lol.
|
It's a little harder to see better then the RC18's though. :)
I need to get some foams for it and try the 44t spur with a 4s pack and see how fast this thing can really go.:005: I think this is the prefect size car parts are alot cheaper then the 1/8th scale stuff and there avalable when the kit was released WOW what a novel concept I wish Associated would have thought about that before releasing the RC18R I'm still waiting for parts and that was 4 mo ago :mad:1 |
that looks great. I hope they make an electric version. If not I will just have to do what you guys are doing and convert one. That probably wont be for awhile though, cause i am going to try 8th scale for the summer.
|
I too think it's the PERFECT size. Small enough so it's light and parts aren't stressed as much, but big enough where you can put a standard motor on there and still have room for many battery options. I was also impressed at the build quality and the fact that it uses some 8th scale parts (diffs).
|
have you got yours running yet Brian?
|
Yup, I have all the pics in my thread. I plan on taking it to the local track today to get some playtime. :)
|
Nice buggy IBJAMMIN!
Welcome to the forums btw! |
haha, he's been here from october '06, lol.
nice truggy btw, little small imo but nice non the less. |
OK JOLLY! You got me!
I saw the handful of posts and thought he recently joined! That will teach me to check the joined date before I respond!!!! |

Yep I have been here for awhile LOL
I have a full size CRT conversion also just waiting for the MMM ESC or a software update to run the Neu motor. :) |
I really like the CRT conversions, they are really nice IMO. Have you ran the MM in there yet? Why not a Quark? My Quark and neu run real cool on 4s...
|
I almost went with the Quark ESC for the CRT but with the Monster Max coming out soon I figured I would wait plus the firmware update that has never came to run multi pole motors with the Mamba Max ESC? I did try the Mamba ESC but could never get rid of the cogging issue it runs great but getting it to go from a stand still was the problem with a 10lb truggy. :)
|
Cool video. Looks like the crt.5 is so much fun.
A couple days ago I was think about if I can have any two rc's... what would they be. I knew I wanted a truggy, but I wanted them to be similar and from the same company. I thought of a brushless CRT and a brushless CRT.5. And then it turns out you have both. :027: Oh my, are you lucky. |
I think I found some Jaco foams for the CRT.5 there made for the Associated gt t4 and t3 trucks but the size is 3-3/8"od and 1-7/8" wide Tower has the wrong pick but they should bolt right on with a shorter drive pin my GT tires would bolt right on. I'm going to have to get some and see. :)
|
All I gota say is WOW the motor is starting to breakin this thing is a rocket on 3s we clocked it at 56mph with the radar gun and it handled great at speed it just keeps getting faster with every pack.:018:
I think i'm going to have to get another one and convert it over to a speed car with a Neu or LMT motor and go for the 1/12th scale speed record at the worlds fastest RC contest in July.:032: |
just saw this video on another forum and thought it showed the potential of the mini. hope you like it :)

AWESOME video! Now I want a CRT.5!
I looks like it kept up with the "big boys" really well! |
Wow that is a great video spanked the 10th scale trucks in the turns and huge jumps. :)

Awesome video you found gixxer. How much could I get for a used rc18mt running a Mamba 6800 and many upgrades and with spare parts? I really want to convert a crt.5. These things are SICK!!!! |
well I just couldn't resist after seeing these conversions. So I ordered one. Now I will just have to figure out what electronics I am going to run. I think I am going to swipe my lrp comp from my xxx-t and probably put a 7.5 novak motor in it.
Then I have to find a servo. Ibjammin how is that hitec working for you? I checked out the 5245 and they are only $40 so I am thinking of trying that. |
Did you get it from tower? you can get 30 bucks off there price of 275 bucks? the Hitec servo is working great you can put a larger servo in but there almost twice as much money and dont have much more torque then the smaller Hitec servo. :)
|
$35 off of the price. They e-mailed me a code.
|
gixxer - can you PM or post the code? I need to buy something.... A charger or the CRT.5.:027:

Wow, in the 5 spoke video, the main jump was HUGE, but the CRT.5 seemed to handle it and everything else very well....ohh...don't make me buy another car yet :024: , I've got to finish my other ones and get them running properly first :005: .
Yay, tripple didgets (posts). |
seems like it goes well from that video, but with jammin jay drivin it could be a shoebox going like that.lol
congrats patrick on the first 100 posts. :003: |
