so what do i need to order? (bl revo)
well the money has now come in and its time to be ordering the parts. i have enough money to spend so money isnt really an option (i have about 5 rc cars still left to sell each going for the least 200 and the most 500) plus i have money on me now so im ready to order everything!
ill be using a revo with vantage chassis rpm arms alum steering knuckles alum rockers will be using stock tranny single steering so im pretty sure im going to be buying the quark 125b and the 8xl. if i want more power or w/e ill upgrade to neu or lehner but for now i will stay with the 8xl. for batteries i have 6s a123 but everyone sais thats too much.. so im either thinking 8 cells nimh or like 5s a123. ill use the 3s for my little rusty and invest in some new 5s packs. if i did that how woudl i lay them out. 2 on one side then 3 on the other side or what? i would invest in some trackpower but i just dont like the thought of them... 120 for a 7.2v battery and it could die on me. idk. illprolly end up going 5s because of the amazing charge times. as for a motor mount im going to talk to mike about getting on custom made. tires and rims... i have 3 different sets of racing tires... one set with white rims... one set with green... and one set black.. lol i also have those 3 color wings so i can match!! =D is thereanything else you think i will need to make this an awsome bashing and every once in a while race revo? i will be ordering soon so lets get some good talk going! thanks once again guys!! |
Why are you gonna talk to Mike about a motor mount? He has one on the store front for it....As for the aluminum knuckles, go with RD Racing knuckles.
|
I don't think a finned Neu will fit on it. And I know you can't use the rear motor support with any Neu (finned or not) because of the larger diameter.
|
well it comes with the knuckles the way i bought it on ebay.
and i had another thread asking what i shoudl get and they said i might need a custom one made because of the vantage. i did not think it willmatter but i will ask anyways. |
awsome. that makes it impossible for me to buy a neu! saves me money
|
Wait a sec! I said "I don't think...", which means I didn't try it. I just wanted to bring it to your attention before you bought one. :) I noticed there isn't much room between the bottom of the 10XL and the mount. But, yeah, the rear support won't work unless you mod it.
|
lol im fine with it. i dont need to go big with themotor. my freinds running 12 cells is fast as hell in FIRST. havent gotten it in 2nd yet... so my setupwill be fine
|
If you can afford it, why wouldn't you just drop the $350 on a G3R? Can't say I have any experience in Revo but heres what I'm getting
G3R (most likely the aluminum version) slipperential of coarse 8th scale diffs Lehner motor ESC still yet to be determined (curse castle for holding back monstermax ESC) For all the money it takes to get a brushless Revo up and running, it seems a shame to hold back on the gorilla chassis. Better of to start with the good chassis and work you way from there. |
Actually, Mike should have the version for the Neus ready by now...

He must be a robot or something. Granted, if I sell something on ebay and it finishes in the evening/night, provided its a week day I will post it the next day. But Mike is just relentless- he is part cnc part human....
|
he is a monster! haha
|
lol that he is ^^ well i bought the revo i bought just for this conversioin. no reason for me to get the g3r. maybe ill make another oine but withthe revo i have all i have to buy is a motor mount and then everything is a drop in replacement. well for the most part. finding spaceto put everything is the fun part
|
That is very true. Thankfully there are plenty of people who have had to figure this out before, so you can just do the same/ similar to them- but with your twist in mounting points/methods. Its all good baby!
I am in a happy mood cos I just sold my phaltlines for $140!!!! They only cost me about $80 new!!!! Its crazy- they are sold out everywhere in the UK, and since I didnt like them (too narrow) I resold them for a small profit- I also sold the G3.3 shocktowers for $20. You'll see what I 're-invested' the money in on wednesday.... goodnite. |
cant wait!!!
also. i figure if something goes wrong with the conversion thenn i will have so many other peoples to base it off of. but i will be ordering everything withtin this month! |
he is converting it to Brushless
|
who is converting what to bl?
|
you, thats is why you would not need a nitro engine. sorry for the confusion
|
oo haha yep!! cant wait to get it started!!
also do you know if anything is NEEDED to do to the tranny to make it work? |
If you want motor braking, you have to lock the tranny (into 2nd gear.) See BrianG's thread in the Revo sec.
Instead of going down on the batt count, why don't you go up on the motor turns, ie a 9xl or 10XL (assuming you could get the 6S A123 to fit)? You can keep the power, but have a cooler running truck w/ longer runtime. |
motor braking? what is that? how much slower will a 9xl be compared to an 8xl?

BrianG's Speed calc A 9XL on 6S A123 is faster than a 8XL on 5S A123. I'm not a quark expert, but I believe I've read they will run 6S A123 (22.2V), but 6S lipos (25.2V) are teh trouble spot. I'd personally go with 6S A123 w/ a 10Xl over a 5S A123/ 8XL if you are considering 6S an option. Speeds should be close, but the former will be cooler and give better runtime (but weight is more obviously.) |
I agree with with Finnster with that setup, 6sA123 with 9 or 10XL. That will move!
|
I agree too. We all know the Quark runs just fine at 5s. So:
5s lipo at max charge is 21v (4.2v/cell). The nominal voltage is 18.5v (3.7v/cell). 6s A123 at max charge will be 21.6v (3.6v/cell). The nominal voltage will be 19.8v (3.3v/cell). |
I would use 17volts (load) for voltage (6s A123) input on Brian's calc for top speed.
|
hmmm!! thst is cool that i can use 6s a123!! that way i dont have to buy new batts!
|
so i was just calculating speeds and with the wanderers my max speed i can get is like 35. not too bad but if 35 is my top speed why should i not just get a novak system for it? the reach around 35 right?
which neu motr would i usE? i putsome in and got speeds in the 40s |
To gain more speed, you can gear up the Wanderers or the Nues (especially the Neus) easier. The Novaks are more sensitive to gearing from what I've heard (pulls more current than the Novak systems can handle).
|
That is true, that is true. Havent smoked mine yet but I have blown a batterypack since the motor wanted more juice than it could supply.
|
so quark with a neu would pretty much be the best? for now i wont do that. but later maybe
|
Yeah, that would probably be the best combo, but a MM and a BK Wanderer would be a stronger choice than an HV - just use a fan on the MM...
|
well no i meant the quark with a 9xl or something
im getting the quark does mike take paypal? |

awsome! will be ordering stuff in the next week or so! just gotta wait for the stupid revo to come in.. has been over 2 weeks...
anyone know what you can do if they dont send the product and you pay MO?? thanks |
Where did you get the truck from again- ebay? If so then I would email them, and if no truck or refund is forthcoming, then raise a 'non-delivered item' thingy with ebay.
|
alright will do!
|
alright so the truck finally came today and WOW i have never had a gas truck like this. it is very touchy and wheelies while driving haha its so much fun!! thinknig of keeping this for gas and starting a new project later... idk
will let you all know... at least i knwo the setup ima do when i decide to get one! |
You can always keep one Revo as a nitro and get another one later on to convert, and see which you prefer....
|
i will probably do that. eventuallty beig the key word.. lol... i have a muggy i might wanna convert
