AMEN!!!

Another quote I liked is what HotNCold used to have in his sig. Something about people in the US speaking english... He should post that here as well.

Good find pro. I also liked the one Hotncold had in his sig like Brian said. That was pretty funny, but so true.

I'd like to see it if he posts it.

btw.....I'm not saying immigration should be stopped, just controlled. AND since America is the "melting pot" the new (and includinng those arriving in the last 10-15 years) MUST meld into American society.
  • LEARN TO SPEAK ENGLISH...it is THE language.
  • UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A CHRISTIAN BASED NATION (we allow other religions, but don't piss on our founding fathers faith and the faith that breeds our generous & caring nature. Without it we would have nuked your asses years ago!)
  • Contribute to the country's well being. WORK. Contribute to society. PAY TAXES like we do.
  • Don't bring you're whole freaking extended family so they can claim social security and welfare without having paid into it for decades like I have.
  • Stop complaining. If your "mother land" was so great go back home. Stop trying to get us to cater to you.
  • Stop waving the damn "insert country name here" Flag on your antenna, rear view mirror, etc. This is America. Be proud to be part of the greatist nation on earth not just be here to take handouts!
  • Finally...I want a white middle class people parade. We have (in Chicago anyway) special parades for the Latinos, Irish, Black pride, gay Pride, etc.
Sorry....I'll get down from the soap box now...........:031:

generalizing in politics is dangerous.

i think you should realize that.

This is true. However my comments address concerns for a cohesive rather than a divisive society. Recent waves of immigrants have had a mindset of the latter rather than the former. The fact is this "mindset" is becoming increasingly common but certainly not all inclusive! Some still come here and appreciate the opportunity. They work hard to fit in and to make the most of opportunity. That, I can respect.

Serum 05.25.2007 11:37 AM

I wasn't able to filter that from your previous posts.

We have got issues here too with immigrants; we seem to have a good financial atmosphere, as well as the soft-drugs policies. some jump the opportunity to become well educated. I deeply respect that. Others don't and take the wrong turn. But most likely they where on the wrong track when they where in their own country as well.

Hard or impossible to judge IMO.

I think the entire world is changing and people are only taking care for themselves, and the tolerance is sinking away..

Last week i had two issues;

One of them was this; I had an appointment at two addresses, number 12 and number 14; Parked the car at number 12, and went to number 14.. Nobody answered the door, so i walked to the car to pick up my cellular; (in about 2 minutes of total time spent)

the guy of number 12 (being about 55-60 years old) came to the door and started shouting! Get the hell of my property!!!!, or I'll kick your car..!!! he shouted.. I was nailed to the ground, not knowing what to say.. i wasn't prepared for such an attack.. kind of surprised of his behavior, a few seconds later i pulled myself together. i asked him if he thought that he was acting in an appropriate/reasonable way. Somehow he was to dumb and hot headed, and repeated his fist words again, now with some more cursing added..

Needless to say i didn't visited him anymore.

I personally don't care what happened to him that day or in his life, My first reaction was; drop dead and F O..! but this probable makes me part of the change as well..

Tolerance.. That's what the problem is..

Procharged5.0 05.25.2007 11:52 AM

Perhaps.

My major beef is that people ONLY think of themselves and have no consideration for others. I believr that is the primary root of the evil. That and old fashioned greed.

Sidebar: US companies are selling off to foreign ownership with alarming frequency. Most recently GE sold of their polycarbonates/plastics division to of all groups, a middle eastern group. WTF were they thinking. Well probably they were thinking of ONLY the short term bottom line. That type of thinking here in the US is what will ultimately do us in.

BrianG 05.25.2007 12:39 PM

My major problem with immigrants are those that come here and sponge off the system. Many drive much nicer vehicles and live in far better houses than I do, and I've been a part of the work force since I was 12 (first job was on a farm - the hardest and most physically demanding one to date). Everyone thinks they "deserve" gov't money not realizing (or maybe they do) that this money comes from the taxpayers. Too many people looking for a handout and the gov't gives it to them.

On a similar vein; it makes me very angry seeing people that make a career out of being on welfare/gov't aid and just spit out more and more kids so they keep getting benefits. And of course the kids don't see any of those benefits - they still run around in dirty rags. Arrrg!

And I agree about the lack of consideration of others. People are generally mean spirited IMO. It's rare to find someone who will lift a hand to help someone else. Just the other day, I drove up to a convenience store where a service guy was working on the outside ice freezer. He was trying to move it back into place and having a heck of a time. A bunch of people walked by and didn't even look at him. So, when I asked him if he could use a hand, he was almost too surprised to answer. And it only took like 10 seconds to do.

Just thinking about all this is making my blood pressure rise!

Anyway, rant over...

Procharged5.0 05.25.2007 12:51 PM

Brian,

Sorry to get your blood pressure up. The "heir of entitlement" attitude of the new immigrants boils my blood too!

anyway....go over to the "Optical Illusion" thread. Much more enjoyable! LOL!

crazyjr 05.25.2007 07:39 PM

I worked in a plastics factory for 15 years (sorry no rc stuff) and the last couple years there was an influx of hispanic Migratory workers with no english at all (owner was a successful businessman from atlanta) the last couple years it turned into a spanish channel because none of them could speak english. I was told they were setting up a spanish course for those of us who wanted it, I asked why they didn't offer an english course for those who needed it. I was told that would be discriminative, but it wasn't discriminative or insulting to dismiss my language( english ) in my country (america) . I told them they were wrong, it was probably the reason I don't work there anymore. Sorry i am a non-conformist, I have no problem with anyone wanting to live and work here, but please embrace the american way and speak english, at least to me, you can do whatever you want at home

BrianG 05.25.2007 07:41 PM

No, I think you are absolutely right. That would be like me going to Mexico and expecting everyone there to speak English. Sheer madness. My opinion is that this is America, and if you want to converse, speak the language or leave.

jnev 05.25.2007 09:08 PM

You are all saying the same thing, just in a different way, lol... and I don't know what way is the best. But I do completely agree with what you all are saying.

mach1stang 05.25.2007 09:42 PM

all i have to say is these days are tuff to live in and not make people mad, the other day me and my dad where taliking and my sister said she got like top student in P.E wel my dad jokingly said well kody failed (i did not BTW)and when you think of it you cant fail anybody unless they just dont go, because if you give them a bad grade in performance it becomes a big deal cuz theres always that chunky kid that cant quit do as good as the rest well you cant tell him he sucks at P.E because it would a judgemental comment. so all in all i think where stuff like this can get people in trouble is some people may find it funny and some may find it disrespectful (sp?).

squeeforever 05.25.2007 10:21 PM

Interesting read. I actually JUST finished a art project about illegal immigration and leaching off the system. I completely agree though. I think if are gonna come and live here, the government should make it to where they can't leach off the system and get welfare and such for a set period of time, or whatnot, depending on age, etc. The speaking English is another big thing. It really pisses me off when I here some guy cursing me out in Spanish when I pass them or go around them...

BrianG 05.25.2007 10:46 PM

And it seems more and more products (especially at the grocery store) have labels in english and spanish. Arrggg.

HotnCold 05.26.2007 07:34 AM

Thank you for calling the United States of AMERICA... Press 1 to continue in English... Press 2 to be disconnected until you learn to speak English...

HotnCold 05.26.2007 07:37 AM

Here is a "hit home" Scenario - These are too funny not to share, ( but sad that they are spot on )

Scenario: Jeffrey won ' t be still in class, disrupts other students.

1956 - Jeffrey sent to office and given a good paddling by Principal Sits still in class.
2006 - Jeffrey given huge doses of Ritalin. Becomes a zombie. School gets extra money from state because Jeffrey has a disability

Scenario: Billy breaks a window in his father ' s car and his Dad gives him a whipping.

1956 - Billy is more careful next time, grows up normal, goes to college, and becomes a successful businessman.
2006 - Billy ' s Dad is arrested for child abuse Billy removed to foster care and joins a gang. Billy ' s sister is told by state psychologist that she remembers being abused herself and their Dad goes to prison. Billy ' s mom has affair with psychologist.

seth556 05.26.2007 11:21 AM

I don't get why they say, "This place sucks, *country name* is so much better." Why did they come here then? Why don't they understand we speak english and not that other stuff?

But lets not bash all the immigrants. There are some good ones. Like the Columbian girl in my Spanish class (she helped me on my tests). But she came knowing english and was ready to conform to our society. She fits in with all the other normal American people.

BrianG 05.26.2007 11:29 AM

HNC: That's the quote I was thinking of! And I totally believe that those other scenarios are true. It's crazy enough to be true given the system.

No, not all immigrants are bad. I don't have a problem with any that come here for better opportunities and then actually work to achieve them. It's the freeloaders I have a problem with. And freeloading isn't limited to immigrants or other ethnic backgrounds either.

suicideneil 05.26.2007 03:02 PM

I'll second that last comment. The UK is a wonderplace for spongers thanks to 10 years of Labour goverment. In the old days, people worked for a living, benefits were few and far between, so only the truelly disabled could claim them, and all other able bodied people had a job, even if it was working down a coal mine breathing coal dust.
These days, if you can fill out a form and pretend to be physically or mentally impared in some way, then you get given tons of free cash. I was reading in a newspaper only a couple days ago about a body builder and dance instructor who were raking in £10,00 a year or more in disability benefits by claiming to have bad backs. The number of people found out for doing these kind of cons is rediculous, yet the government doesnt seem to be cracking down all that much.
As far as immigrants go, well, it seems some of you have experienced the reverse- racism that can occur. People & kids are being banned from wearing religious symbols like crucifixs at work & school, yet 'minority faiths' are exempt from such bans. Heck, its now perfectly fine to wear a burkha (head & body scalf that covers everything all bar the eyes) in court and classrooms- one younf girl took her school to court because they wouldnt let her wear a religious garment.

What they dont realise is its a two way street; we must respect their religion & culture and make certain allowances, and they too must respect that the UK is a Christian country and they must learn to integrate into our way of living. The greatest example of stupidity is the St.Georges flag being banned from taxis and homes/ offices incase it offends a non-christain, yet we have to put up with muslim rallies calling for the beheading of christians in Iraq....
I rest my case.

BrianG 05.26.2007 03:43 PM

Wow, this is really turning out to be a share-your-feelings thread!

My father (note that I did not say "dad"?) scammed for disability for something or other. Always something that was hard to medically disprove. Needless to say, I have had VERY little dealings with him.

BrianG 05.26.2007 03:45 PM

OK, this is a long read, but I've been holding on to this for quite some time. Several years ago, hurricane Katrina hit the southern US and left a boat load of damage. I wish I knew who wrote this, but I don't so it will have to be left unquoted:

Quote:

In 1927, a major unnamed hurricane struck the city of New Orleans. It was actually more powerful than Katrina. The scope of damage was much more severe because this particular hurricane actually hit the city. Katrina missed it by 25 miles.

The interesting difference is the response the government gave in 1927 to those hurricane refugees, compared to the refugees of Katrina, err- I meant "survivors" ---(sorry Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson). How much aid did the government dispense at that time? Zero, nada, not one dime. And you know how much aid the army offered? The only aid from the army came in the form of loaning the city of New Orleans tents and camp stoves. Ironically, later, the army sued the city for reimbursement. So what was the big difference here?

It was the attitude the people had towards the government at that time, compared to the attitude that Katrina's victims have. The 1927 "survivors" expected nothing from the government. 80 years ago, people understood that the government was there to "protect life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Today, Americans expect the government to "provide life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." That's a major difference. And now, a week later, when the government failed on all three levels of local, state, and federal to provide for their needs, Americans were sorely disappointed

Reverend Jackson and reverend Sharpton spend their opportunities arguing about semantics." They shouldn't be called refugees, they should be called survivors". Unfortunately, they missed the boat. It was a perfect opportunity to deliver a very basic message to their people. Fact, if you are poor and uneducated in America, this is what happens. Fact, if you depend on the government, you will be sorely disappointed. Fact, if you are poor in America, there is no reason for you to be uneducated. Its free! 12 grades. And if you really apply yourself, there is enough grants and assistance out there for higher education, which will raise you above the poverty level. And no longer will you depend on the government and be disappointed. Its unfortunate that this lesson will be missed by most of the "survivors".

A couple of other points should be brought to light. G. W. has asked the congress for 50 billion dollars worth of aid for the "survivors" and clean up of the city. Interesting isn't it? One million people displaced and out of work in that city, sitting all day in shelters, waiting for the next handout. Of course, the thought never occurred to anyone that just maybe, "hey, we should give all these folks jobs filling sand bags to plug the levees and clearing trees." (Wonder how many of them would want government aid if they had to work for it?)

And finally, they haven't hardly begun the task of picking up dead bodies, and already the finger pointing has started. The congressional hearings and probes will go forever. Millions will be spent on a wasted diatribe of a bipartisan "witch hunting expedition"- all of which will be nonsense. If you're a democrat, you are going to blame the president. If you are a republican, you are going to blame the mayor and the governor. This is another case in point of how the government will once again fail its people, they could have spent the millions educating the poor and misplaced citizens of New Orleans so that they could go out and get a new and better life, instead of wasting it on useless blame investigations.

Exactly....

Why don't we just call ourselves

America....the doormat for the world................

America.....the country that rolls over.....

(Politically, Not militarily)

America...land of free stuff for foreigners.

This all reminds me of when I applied for a college loan and grants. If I was hispanic, black, or a transfer student I could have had all the financial support I could handle. But since I was a white middle class kid I was SOL. No money available for the core families of this country.

SilentMonster 05.29.2007 12:06 PM

And why the freek do I have to press 1 for English?

The other day I went through one of those self check out lanes at Wally World in Flagstaff, AZ. It wouldn't let me scan an item until I picked a language. I refused to use it and walked away and made a big deal of it verbally so the lady in charge could hear me.

Procharged5.0 05.29.2007 12:16 PM

GOOD MAN!

Locally there has been a lot of grief sent towards business owners so in the "self scan" lines you can by-pass the STUPID & RIDICULOUS language selection screen by just scanning the first item. It automatically defaults to english. Thank GOD for that!

BrianG 05.29.2007 12:19 PM

Just be glad that english is option 1. Before long, it will be at the end of the list...

A lot of fast food places now have people that only understand "number 1", "number 2", etc for the various value meals. Which is good until you want something specific. Now, I make it a point to order something different and have to speak to a manager. And I make sure to loudly vocalize my grievence so everyone can hear. :)

Are there any countries that don't suffer from all these types of problems? Because I want to move there.

zeropointbug 05.29.2007 12:23 PM

Procharged5.0 05.29.2007 12:28 PM

U hoser! LOL!

AAngel 05.29.2007 01:43 PM

I really do have mixed feelings about some of this. I am first generation American on my mother's side and fourth generation American on my father's side. English is not the first language of either of my parents. My father, having been raised a coon ass, spoke French and my mother spoke Korean.

The Amerian way of life is probably one of the most sought after things in the world. I know that if I lived in a country where doing well was not a function of how hard you broke your back, I would have to look to the future for my kids, and I'd have to do everything that I could to take them where there is more opportunity for them to enjoy life.

On the other hand, I, as an American, want to protect and preserve our way of life, this nation which has given us so much, and the sacrifices that many have made so that we can live the life that we do. To that end, we really need to start enforcing immigration laws. Having them doesn't mean anything if there is no enforcement. I don't understand why the politicians can't stand up for their country. What's with all of the tolerance?

Unfortunately, big business is playing a rather large hand in perpetuating what is going on. I was on my way to work today and realized that a bill board, that has been there, adverstising the Toyota Tundra truck was now written in spanish. What's up with that?

Wow Pro, I thought the UK sucked but now I think the whole world sucks, like a giant vacuum cleaner. Its true of many, if not most countries these days though- in the olden days when immigration was a non-issue really, people came to the UK invited (after WW2 I believe to fill the space left by dead soldiers or something?), and they brought their own skills and money to set up businesses and carve a place for themselves. Nower days people come to this country illegally via people traffickers (sp), and they just disappear into the hands of gang masters who get them jobs picking fruit&veg, or cockle picking (see: morcombe bay tragedy). The government makes it far too easy for people to claim benefits without having to really prove they deserve them, and are too affraid to crack down incase they are seen as racist, instead we have to put up with it and are them ones who are cracked down on in terms of rights/freedom to celebrate our britsih way of life. Im not Hitler or anything, none of us are, and some immigrants work damn hard, and had a genuine reason to leave their home country- fleeing conflict/percecution/barbaric governments, and I welcome those people; its the freeloaders who need to be sent packing. Sucks like I giant hoover indeed....

OK, let's all chip in to buy an island! A utopia where everyone does their fair share and where there are R/C tracks within a 10 minute drive or less. :)

Sorry Neil! Didn't mean to push you over the edge buddy!

I do think the respective governments of our countries need to get their act together before it's too late.

We have over 100million in our country currently and more than 50% of California's population is of 1st generation immigrants or illegal aliens.
