Brushless Hellfire Truggy
I have recently acquired most of a HPI Hellfire truggy roller and will be using this thread to track my new conversion. It'll be a while before any real progress is made, but gotta start somewhere. :)
First question; does the Hot Bodies Lightning Stadium mount work on this truggy? I don't mind doing a little modding to the center diff, but would rather not drill new holes in the chassis. |
I don't know about the mount. But, I am glad that you are doing a Hellfire conversion, as I have always really liked this rc for some reason... so I'll really be looking forward to the conversion and finished product. Good luck!! :)
|
Brian; Help is on its way; Mike and I have got one too, we both bought the SS kit, and the motorplate is different, as well as a brace for the rear-side.
The problem is the upperdeck. it needs a rear-brace if you convert one, and the motor needs to be on the other side of the diff than the nitro. (otherwise the lipo's don't have enough space.) |
Nice choice Brian. I have always wanted a Hellfire, they are just so cool looking. What kind of setup are you planning on running?
|
It's good !!!
What motor do you want to use ? |
i love the hellfire model it looks so mean i want to do this conversion in the future to so this thread will be helpful.
|
Not really sure what's going to go in it as I don't have it yet, but it is coming. It's "pre-owned" so I already got some parts I needed. I knew about the chassis braces, but everything else is a mystery to me until I have it in my hands.
For a motor, probably a Neu. Not sure if I want to go 4s on ~2000kv motor, or 5s on ~1800kv motor. Also not sure if I want the 1515 for extra torque or the 1512 for snappiness. For the ESC, I dunno. It depends what is currently out at the time. Otherwise, probably another Quark 125B. |
I would find a way to get rid of the "spend 2 hours removing 50 screws" double deck radio plate.
I would also research this truck (on google) as many people have had durability issues with it and I believe cures are posted places. |
I'm sure the tray will be modified or even removed. It's just too big to keep in one piece! Once I get it in and take a look, I'll do the research like you suggest.
I got some of the extra parts I ordered from an eBay chop shop in the mail today - things I knew were removed from the truck: new shocks, swaybars, wheel hubs, and front CVDs. I also got a screw kit since the ones on there will be dirty and maybe even partially rusty. Serum: I fully plan on making some type of new front/rear brace, unless Mike comes up with something instead. :) I'm anxious to start this one. If all goes well, it may just replace the Revo. Not really sure on that though, as the Revo is quite a solid truck now that I've addressed all the weak areas. Haven't broken anything in quite a long time now. |

I have recently acquired most of a HPI Hellfire truggy LOL:005: . Some one's excited

Sure thing ***RC***!
Hippie: I thought that statement was suitably obscure. :) It had just better be true! ;) |

Maybe one of you Hellfire guys would be interested in a body I painted?
It's a HPI Hellfire Body (7198 DRX), note the lack of nitro holes, perfect for BL conversions :) http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/mai07010.jpg http://i201.photobucket.com/albums/a...t/mai07014.jpg PM me if interested. Any other special requests welcome! Cheers DAF |
it's a beauty Daf..
No doubt. |
Beautiful !!!
|
wow, nice Daf! :004:
I would NEVER actually drive with that shell on for fear of scratching it up. That would definitely be my shelf-shell. :) |
Thank you! I did that one with the intention to sell it. It is still available.
Every nice truck deserves a nice shell :) Scratching them up is part of the game...a nice body means more motivation to keep the rubber side down :005: |
The body is awesome. Any asking price? Also, just curious how the progress is on the hellfires and would maybe be interested in the future of doing the same. Any kits out yet for converting?
|
Progress is slow as I'm not in any big rush. I'm currently in the process of tearing it down, cleaning everything, and replacing any needed parts. However, it's slow going since I have to wait for the parts to come in each time. It looks like the F/R diffs need to be rebuilt. I was going to simply get a whole diff from an eBay chopshop, but it looks like all they have are rebuild kits. Poo.
I'll probably end up "machining" (read: hacksawing and dremeling) my own mount. Thinking of using 6s lipo and a Neu 1515 1.5y for great runtimes and would also require less beefy (and expensive) batteries. Just gotta find a suitable ESC. |
i guess you could test the mgm 18120 with integrated BEC.
|
Actually, I was hoping for an ESC with ~160A at 32 cell (8s) rating in case I decide to go with even higher voltage than 6s.
|
I would try the MGM 16024.
|
the 18160 can do 6S lipo too.
|
Brian are the diffs that worn ?.
|
Serum: Well, I plan on going with 6s, but it would be nice to have the capability to go higher in the future if I wanted.
hippie: Yeah, the ring and pinion show decent wear. It will probably be ok for a while still, but figured I might as well take care of it now that it's all apart. And the drive cups show wear from the dogbones pin as well. |
brian i recomend replacing the diffs with savage alu diffs (12 bucks per cup and it comes with screws) because my friend blew out 1 rear diff and RCCA blew out the rear one on there test drive.
|
There are several Savage models - do they all use the same size diff cup? I was thinking of picking up a savage diff instead, but I'd still need the hellfire ring and pinion to get a lower gear ratio.
|
i am not sure what model it is but i think they are all the same size the only mod would be to use a different helfire bearing on the diff instead of the savage bearing. this is the one that fits i think

Yeah, I just hate going through the bidding process just to get outbid by $0.51 at the last second. I'll look a bit more at some point.
|
Quote:
Dont bid on anything . What i do is click on the items ending soonest. Then i find the item i want & set the price that im willing to spend. I use a stop watch I turn it on at 1 minute & go to the bid section type in my bid Then when there is about 15 - 20 seconds left i send in my bid. |
yep, all the savage diffs are the same, and the diff gmaxx360 linked is the one you want.

Any updates Brian? Are you still working on it?
|
Not really. Just buying small parts here and there to get it to showroom condition. The majority of my paychecks have been tied up in other things lately.
I already modded the large CF plate, so it's really just a matter of choosing a motor, ESC, and batteries. Once that is done, I'll know what extra parts I'll need to fabricate. So, it's basically a completed roller right now (sans tires) and will probably stay that way until spring. |
I updated mine at my birthday with aluminum c-hubs, steering knuckles, and that's the state it's currently in.. Didn't do anything on it. Perhaps I'll have a closer look tomorrow.
|
How strong are these truggys?
|
...wow...when i first posted MY conversion hardly anyone looked at it :D And now we have Serum and BG working on them too? Time for me to put it back together i reckon :D BTW the original thread is in the truggy section somewhere...couple of months back now...

1st Plastic is quite bad, its wear out with time. 2'nd problem with diff that Diff housing is too flexible and Diff Bevel Gear and pinion will wear out. Our nitro guys use in midle (Alu)Savage differential and in Front and Rear they put HotBodies Spiral cut bevel gear and pinion and shim it. Some guys tells that propper shimming solve problems on stock hellfire diffs. But Hellfire performs very well on track. Handling is pretty good! |
