Taken the plunge...............
Well guys I've decided to take the plunge and do a BL conversion on my savage. Following parts are on their way: Mamba Max ESC, Feigao 9XL, Fastlane Shock Towers, Fastlane Upper Arms, RacerX Shocks, Kershaw BL Conversion Kit. Things to come later: IB4200 SHV Batteries, Andy Moore CTX Cellmaster. :013: hehe
P.S. Any of you savage guys using the X SS version? Will the old spur gears from a SS25 fit on the X SS without any mods? cheers simon |
Get an X slipper with plastic spur, that's my advice.
Serum is right. My X slipper is holding up fine to a 1521. Still wish Mike would release a Savage Slipperential!
Thanks guys I'll take that advice on the spurs. I just hope 12 cell nimh is ok, can't afford to go lipo just yet, hopefully not too far in the future. :002:
Maybe with the 9XL, you might want to try 14 cells. I like to run the 9XL in my trucks with 4S lipo. It's a good compromise among runtime, performance, and heat.
I was thinking of trying 14 cells, will the MM handle that ok?
OK, I just did some math (and it hurt). 14 cells will have a nominal voltage of 16.8v. I'm not sure of what the fully charged voltage will be. I know that all of my MM escs will handle 4S lipo, which comes off of the charger at 16.8v. Some of my MM escs will handle 5S, which comes off of the charger at 21v.
Perhaps you are right in trying out 12 cells first. 14 cells is probably an iffy proposition. I must apologize for my comment regarding the 14 cells. I have so much different equipment laying around that it's sometimes hard to keep track of what works with what all of the time. |
It's all good Aangel, my brain hurts when i do math also :027: Thanks for the help much appreciated :028:

...pullstarter you show in all sorts of funny places now dont you...I cant see that new pay cheque hasnt gone to your head at all :D And mate you shoulda just gone with the new FLM< chassis plates that take GP Savvy PARTS and mate them to an E-Savvy HEART ;) Good to have you onANOTHER forum i frequent though :P
What chassis plates be these you talk of Bitty?
Those TVPs are cool. Great idea from FLM. Anyone tried them yet?
They are cool. That makes converting a savage much easier for old & new hands alike, just have to find a tranny and the battery holders (or make your own) and hey-presto, you're done.
Hmmm very interesting indeed, is the e-sav tranny up to big motors?
That is a very interesting chassis. It's very short though. I would love to see one of these built though.
...the chassis is actually quite long...Almost big enough to take a Hellfire stock body...Too long for the E-Sav but probably good for the GP conversion...
...The drivetrain will take what you throw at it for sure...Especially when mated with the GP front and rear diffs... ...You can read ALL about the E-Savage at, surprise surprise, E-Savage.com  EDIT: Here is one shot of the original extended chassis...These are EP diffs front and rear, NOT the GP diffs like the chassis we are talking about...Gives you an idea though... http://e-savage.com/gallery/data/500.../JUSTAPEEK.jpg |
It they only sold battery trays to go with it. The conversion would be so simple.
Bithead. I just saw some pics of your esavage. nice. well i think it was yours. |
I have some battery trays from my Kershaw BL conversion kit, I'd like to get rid of the 2 speed tho its so heavy. Maybe a centre diff setup?
...battery trays are too easy...i just use some folded 1mm alloy sheet...plans and everything up at E-Savage.com...I mean the EP crowd has been borrowing ideas from the GP scene (RE: the E-Savage) for ages so maybe its time we paid something back...
MTBTIM:::Thanks mate...You can see my WHOLE gallery with this link...Might be something you like ;) http://e-savage.com/gallery/showgall...t=500&ppuser=3 |
hi
let me see if i got this right. this chassis above will take the normal gp axles of the savage. doing this will bring us in the weight range of the usual gp to ep converted savages, which is about 2-4 pounds more than the e savage. so then i should put a e savage center gear box in there instead of a modified savage gp center gear box right? this center e savage gear box has plastic gears and is designed to transfer the power of two 550 brushed motors in a light 9 pound e savage. and now it should transfer the power of BL setup for a converted gp savage, that weights about 50% more and is equipped with a big neu and 16 cells or the like? i might be wrong but and one could try it but i would be very positively surprised if this works. bye rhylsadar |
Hi Rhylsader;
Jamie designed this chassis so it would accept a good ol' savage front and rear end or the e-savage front/rear end. It only requires a e-savage gearbox. (they are surprisingly beefy btw, they use a 32 pitch gear which is about twice the width of an e-maxx 32p spur. |
hi serum
yeah sounds interesting. i am not worried with the 32pitch but the gears in the box. so anybody already tested an e savage center gear box with a BL set that is common in converted gp savys? bye rhylsadar |
Jamie, the owner of fastlanemachine used this with a savage front/rear end and the e-savage gearbox, with a 7XL and 4S lipo. Not the most powerfull setup, but way stronger than the stock dual engine.it held up fine with his
To be honest, i share your idea on the e-savage gearbox. |
E-savage spurs are 32 pitch also?
yes they are.
Hmm interesting, sure would make pinions easily available. Anyone seen any e-sav trannies for sale? Be interested to know what they go for :)
...Pulley there are a couple of chop-shop sellers on ebay who i know have what you want...Make sure to pull out the plastic shims from INSIDE the diff and replace them with alloy tubing...Let me know if you need them and I will put together a set...You must be outta smokes and gum by now anyway :D
Woohoo smokes and gum!! I'll cruise the bay and see what i can dig up. I'm off to Hong Kong in a few weeks may see if I can pick up an HV system there
..not getting to my end of the street? Oh i forget...That whole hamster thing got you banned from Japan ;)
I keep telling you they totally distorted the facts and misrepresented the truth in the most horrendous way!!!!!!!!!
