Twin Force

1 Attachment(s)
I like solid axle trucks and decided to built up a twin force. Bought this truck from E-bay and received it in the mail on Wednesday. The object of this project is to build a VERY FAST solid axle truck. I've installed and ofna center diff, custom steering and aluminum battery tray. The battery tray and motor/diff assembly can be removed from the truck with just 4 bolts each. The truck seems to be light. RTR weight with the stock tires/wheels and no batteries is around 8 1/2 pounds. light weight wheels and tires will decrease weight by 1/2 pound.

Here is a few pictures. The start!

Thank you,
Promod

Last one. Still need the custom driveshafts and a few other things. The driveshafts are being made by Bill at RCalloys. He makes a very strong driveshaft and makes them quickly.

Thank you,
Promod

Thats thing is going to haul on a 12XL. How many cell's are you planning on running?

I hope you keep the pictures coming throughout the build. I would be interested in how the finished product turns out(lookin' great so far). I am very curious just how fast you can get it going!

To start with 6 Kokam 3200's and if everything works ok than 9 Kokams.
I will keep everyone updated on the progress of this truck. The driveshafts will not be here untill next week. I did lock tight every thing, polished the steering links, put 100,000 oil in the center diff, and make a new aluminum motor mount with a small brace.

Thank you,
Promod

Looks awesome! This will be a great basher, I'm sure!
First TF I've ever seen with a center diff. This truck has alot of potential, tons of room for inventive mods such as your diff.

Great! Two thumbs up:cool:

9s Lipo! You are gonna need some room to open that sucker up! Looks good, Promod. I will be keepiong up with this post for sure.

hey guys, just wondering if the pics to this truck are still available. i really wanted to see what a center diff int he twin force was like. i have a twin force that i am modding the crap outta right now, and wanted to make sure it would handle the power im gonna throw at it.

suicideneil 03.03.2009 08:04 PM

Nope. When the forum server crashed a year or so ago, all the attached pics (uploaded to the rcm server) went bye-bye.

The twinforce didnt have a center diff, it had a chain driven center tranny unit. Very beasty so far as I know, so it should hold up to BL just fine I believe- there are more twinforce threads around with pictures, so its worth digging about a bit more

But Promod was one of the first people to begin retrofitting center diffs into vehicles which normally accommodated transmissions . This Twin Force did, in fact, have a center diff.

thanks for the reply, i am aware of the twin force tranny as i have had one for about a year now. i just wanted to see how he incorporated the center diff into this thing. I have the twin force Spirit edition with the CF side plates. i am converting it to a 4 link suspension system and also have a some ideas on other things i would like to do to it.
putting a center diff in was something i never thought of, but if it adds some sort of driveability to the chassis, then i will look into it.

thanks again

Haven't heard from Promod here in quite a while, I bought one of his TF's last year. He had two of them that he sold, One was an Xtreme CF chassie'd with a center diff and was used in the vids for the 50MPH on 4s thread. The one i got was a new era extended chassie'd with center diff, I wish i could have got the other one as well. I ran mine with a 2250/10t and an MGM 16018, even with a leaking diff, it would hit the wheelie bar hard. I am currently looking for the part i need to fix it, Its the right rear outer diff hub, once i get that part I can play with it again.

Here are some pics of mine, not sure if they are of this one or not

that looks pretty awesome man. what kinda speed were you getting outta that one?

can you take a pic of what it looks like around the tranny and diff area? its hard to see whats there with all the elecs in there.

crazyjr 03.04.2009 01:11 PM

I will as soon as i can, All he really did was drill 4 holes into the skid and cut a hole for the diff gear (he used an ofna diff/51 tooth plastic diff gear) there is a slight offset for motor clearance. My current gearing is 19 pinion with the 51 spur and 1/8 buggy diffs (stock)
here is the setup according to Brian G's speed program
6s
Differential Ratio: 3.3076923076923075
Transmission Ratio: 1
Other Ratio: 1

Total Motor Speed: 26262.6 RPM
Vehicle Speed: 51.04 mph (81.99 km/h)
Effective KV Value: 1183

and 4s
Differential Ratio: 3.3076923076923075
Transmission Ratio: 1

I know i never run the motor even close to the true potential but it never got hot or faltered. The MGM is giving me some problems, Got to send it back in, but i am running a quark 125 (unmodded) and will see how it runs on 4 and 5s.

5s should be intresting

I will get the pics, of the diff setup, as soon as i can

mjderstine 03.04.2009 01:25 PM

awesome man.

so he took two center diff mounts, put them on the center plate, and ran it like that? sounds VERY simple to me, and easy to do.

is the main benefit of the center diff to help preserve the driveline?
how much does it help over the stock slipper gear that is already there?

I have also modified my driveline with revo driveshafts instead of kyosho universals or the stock dog bones. do you know if there are any diff outputs that would accept the traxxas revo yokes?

crazyjr 03.04.2009 06:28 PM

the main reason for the center diff is to split the power Front and rear, if you get a lot of power you can set the center to offload more or less to the front depending on traction available.I'm sure there is a bit of protection, but its not the main thing
