Stampede project done

Just finish my stampede project, now it's time to try it.
FLM tranny case, ext. chassis, alloy diff gear, steel idler, Ofna Hyper 7 suspension, MM esc, maxamps 5000mAh, 3s, Feigao 540 9L, gear in MOD 1 revo 40 tooth and 9 tooth pinion, Jammin halfoffset Maxx size wheel and Panther Komodo tires. Toped with a Peoline Revo Crowd Pleisure body, that i've paint myself.
I don't have the time to try it, but i'am little scared about how the drive train will hold the power of the 9L on 3s and the extra load of the bigger tires.

With the body on, it looks just like a Revo. Very nice work on it. My only suggestion would be to make a skid plate protecting the exposed motor and tranny case, or get a wheely bar like the one from Swami-RC.

The alloy diff gear, aluminum idler and tranny case should easily be able to handle the power. My only concern would be the plastic top gear. Here is a steel one you can consider getting:

What's_nitro? 09.15.2007 10:41 PM

That looks awesome! Nice job painting the body too. I think the drive train will be fine; one Q though, by "alloy diff gear" do you mean aluminum? Or do you have the FLM steel diff in there? Also what are you using for the rear CVD's, that Ofna suspension must widen the truck a bit.

david lamontagn 09.15.2007 11:54 PM

I've the top steel gear, and the diff is the FLM steel. And yes it's the Hyper 7 CVD's.
And JNEV, the top shaft you link is for the nitro stampede and don't work on the electric, the pitch geat is not the same.

snellemin 09.16.2007 12:38 AM

That's a really nice setup. Love the paintjob man.

jnev 09.16.2007 02:14 AM

Oh, sorry about the wrong link. But with an all aluminum tranny, you should have no problems at all.

SpEEdyBL 09.16.2007 03:00 AM

Are you sure that's a 540 9L? Looks more like a 380C can to me. Nice setup though.

B15 09.16.2007 04:24 AM

Looks like a 540c L can to me.
As for worrying about the drivetrain, my rustler has the same transmission set up/ mods as yours, and Im running 4s 5Ah lipos through an 8l with bigger, stickier (onroad) tires, with no transmission problems.

lincpimp 09.16.2007 05:32 AM

Very nice!!! I like the out-of-the-box thinking on this truck. You will not have any problems with the drivetrain. I have the exact same setup in a tube frame pede/buggy that is way heavier than yours and it holds up fine. I used jato spus and 32 pitch pinions, but that would be the only difference, and stock grey plastic trans cases.

rvogster 09.16.2007 04:32 PM

Can you give more details on the "Ofna Hyper 7 suspension"? What is required to get it installed? Is it way better than the stock setup?

squeeforever 09.16.2007 05:30 PM

I have the same question as rvogster. I have really been wanting to do a Rusty lately, and that only makes me want to do one even more.

Truck looks great, by the way!

zeropointbug 09.16.2007 06:51 PM

That looks great man! Nice and clean, good parts used around, nice job. :yipi:

chilledoutuk 09.16.2007 07:16 PM

that's clearly a 380c L motor.

david lamontagn 09.17.2007 08:07 PM

Yes that's a 380c "L" on the pics, but taht was just to take the pics, now it's a 540 9L, with a 40 tooth revo spur and a 9 tooth pinion.
For the suspension setup, i've take the a-arm of the hyper 7 TQ sport all around with front c-hub and CNC hyper 7 front knuckle and axle, to mount 17mm adapter and Jammin half offset wheel.
On the back it's same things, hyper 7 arm, hub carier, axle and dog bone, with 17mm adapter and Jammin half offset wheel.
For the outdrive cup, it's the Hyper 7 outdrive cup that i've drill another hole just beside the existing hole (the one where the allen screw goes), and put a Revo driving pin (the pin how hold the driving on the diff outdrive on a revo) thrue the hole in the stock traxxas output shaft on the diff. (Don't know if you understand my poor english:whistle:).
The big problem is the shock setup, it's verrrrrrrry to soft, and need stiffer spring, but i can't find a harder set of spring for my shock, so i'll put a set of Ofna Hyper 7 shock at all 4 corner.
The truck is on the heavy side compare to the stock Stampede (maybe twice of the stock weight), and this week-end i'll bring it to the job and put it on an electronic scale and give you the exact weight.
that's it:yipi:

squeeforever 09.17.2007 08:29 PM

Could you possibly get some close ups of the suspension, and possible the shock towers (what I'm more curious about).

david lamontagn 09.17.2007 08:58 PM

I wait for a part, it's suppose to arrived tomorrow, and as soon as the truck is in one pieces, i'll take lot of pics of the suspension and shock tower and put it here, no probs.

snellemin 09.17.2007 09:09 PM

Have you tried the Trinity heavy duty springs?

These springs are what I use on my close to 7 LBS rustler.

david lamontagn 09.17.2007 11:11 PM

Just order it!!!
Thank's:intello:

david lamontagn 09.24.2007 10:42 PM

lincpimp 09.25.2007 03:18 PM

Thanks David, appreciate the kind words.

I will inspect the pede when I get it and post up some pics and info about the hyper 7 arm conversion as I know there will be some interest.

MTBikerTim 09.25.2007 07:03 PM

That is one nice stampy. I can't believe you sold it. Definitely post some more pics of the arm conversion. My friends have stampedes and I am looking for one as well. One of the things we need to do though is toughen up the arms a bit and increase the bearing size in the wheels as we keep destroying bearings. My friends now run bushes again.

david lamontagn 09.25.2007 09:08 PM

MT biker, on my (Lincpimp:oops:) stampede, or you can call it "mutant", the knuckle bearing size is the same as 1/8 scale Hyper 7 buggy.

So with the weight of this stampede, and this big bearing, i'am absolutly certain that Lincpimp will never destroy a bearing.

Same thing for the a-arm, it's the arm of the Hyper 7, and the hinge pin is capture on the aluminium FLM bulkhead, front and rear, it's suppose to be tough.

But i'am the softest guys on his r/c and i'am not the referance guys for durability test because i'am so "soft" on all my truck.

Maybe Lincpimp would post somes "bad things" about this truck in somes week, if he give it a good and solid bash session:eyes:

But, this will be his problems now:lol:

Now i must decided if i order the V1 hybrid diff for my revo, 8XL motor and 4s li-po, or if i put a LRP Z28 spec 3 nitro engine on it:neutral:

lincpimp 09.25.2007 09:24 PM

Yeah, I will bash it, if its got a problem I will find it. To be honest I can't see those hyper 7 arms breaking. I have a brushless stampy with the complete rpm treatment and a 12s feigao with a mmrun on 3s lipo that does 45mph and it takes a beating. The main thing that seems to fail is the wheelie bar, I keep breaking it, lol!

My pede is very light, I think that has something to do with the lack of breakage.

What servo is on the mutant David? Did not think to ask before I bought it! Oh, and do you have any more pics?

david lamontagn 09.25.2007 09:38 PM

The servo is a stock Traxxas 2055 (revo stock) not the best but if i had keep the truck, probably i would upgrade for a better one, but....

For the pics, it's the only ones i've.

I can post you a pics of the box (with the truck in it:intello:)

lincpimp 09.25.2007 09:47 PM

Yeah we need to see more box on these forums:rofl:

The 2055 works fine in a pede, not that much weight over the front wheels. I run the metal gear futaba 3305 in most of my pedes(I will have 4 when yours arrives). Just cause you sold it does not mean that it is not your creation.

BlueJuice 10.03.2007 05:31 AM

That has got to be one of the best looking stampedes i've seen, i'm jelous! its now my desktop now tho .

Have you got the truck yet? any chance of some pics i'm gonna be starting my Stampede project soon and would love to see more pics of the suspension up close.

phildogg 10.03.2007 09:42 AM

that sounds like a sweet set-up.. def. need to get pics up..
phil

lincpimp 10.03.2007 09:46 AM

Still waiting on the mail to bring it! I will get some good pics up on this thread. Especially of the suspension, and my aveox/quark 5s setup too! Should be fast!

david lamontagn 10.03.2007 10:38 AM

Hey James, i've call back CanadaPost service for they return me the Stampede, i regret to sold it, so the truck is redirect at my home, i'll refund you......................

:lol:that's a joke:na:

BlueJuice 10.03.2007 10:46 AM

:gasp:  thats funny, how amy times Lincpimp gonna re-read that post just to make sure it was a joke

david lamontagn 10.03.2007 11:07 AM

at least 20 times:rofl:

lincpimp 10.03.2007 02:10 PM

Refund.

Thats fine, just add the 5.25% that paypal pays me for keeping money in my account, I use it like a savings acct. Hopefully you do the same, so you do not have to come out of pocket for this. Sorry that you want it back, I was going to enjoy it. I understand though, thanks anyway.

david lamontagn 10.03.2007 03:18 PM

Hey James, as soon as i'll recieve the Jato spur and 5mm bore 32 pitch pinion, i'll ship it to you, for free:yes:

Thanks David, I can pay shipping.

I will let everyone here know that I have no sense of humor at all.

None what-so-ever, not even a little bit.

lincpimp 10.06.2007 07:05 PM

Got the stampede and have looked it over. Installed a MM and ran it with the 9l and 5000 3s pack. It was way slow so I had a look at the pinion, 9 tooth, too small for my tastes. It also had a 49t MGT pinion that was rubbing on the drive cup. I replaced the 49 with a 48t and it clears. I also put a 13t pinion on it for more speed. Went out again and got to the end of the road before the planetary gears in the diff let go. Rebuilt the diff with new internals and lubed everything with synthetic grease. Runs great now, plenty of power and it does about 40mph with that gearing. Batt and esc are keeping cool, good temps on the feigao motor. I will take some detailed pics on the suspension mods, since I know all of you want to see that. I think that I will put my 15l in this on 5s thru a quark 65 and see how it handles the higher voltage.
