Yusa buggy?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...ayphotohosting
Opinions? Has anyone heard of these? Im looking to pick up a cheap 1/8 buggy to convert, and this thing is selling brand new for less than I was planning on spending on a used one. My knowledge of 1/8 buggies is slim at best, but this thing looks decent in the pictures. The wheels look the same as some Ive seen on a lot of kyosho buggies, is it maybe a copy of a kyosho design? Or better yet, a relabeled kyosho? (wishful thinking, a new inferno for $100 shipped). Any help would be appreciated. |
buy it up and tell us how it works!
|
I would pass on that thing. I have only bought 1 thing from that guy on Ebay. It was a set of mounted/glued wheels and tires and they were crap! I bought them for bashing use and withing 5 minutes of running doing nothing really crazy one of the wheels went rolling away. The hub in the center of the wheel completely cracked out. Upon looking at the others I found that another one was already starting to crack. I just pulled them off and pitched them in the trash.
I guess what did I expect for $15 set of 4 wheels/tires. My suspicion is the buggy would be just as bad. Plus when it does break, where do you get the parts? 3 week mail order from china???? My advice would be, DON'T waste your $$$ on that thing. Just get a decent used brand name buggy, even if it costs more for the used brand name. In the long run you will be MUCH happier. |
I also bought from the seller and they wouldn't have shipped my items if Ebay had suspended their account for false contact info (I guess they have the right contact info now). It took almost a month for my items to arrive.
|
Don't waste your time/money chances are its quality falls way short of anything you could even buy used.
|
I wouldn't even consider it...
|
Squee, after jiggling his boyboobs that energetically 24/7 for the last month shouldn't that kid in your avatar be reasonably slim by now? I gotta say I prefer your old avatar, this one just makes me want to slap my monitor.
Oh and I agree get a used buggy that you get get parts for, buggys rock but a broken buggy in the bottom of your wardrobe is just a waste of space (and money). |
Lol...I figure he/she should be by now, but I guess not. I probably would have put the old one back up, I just can't find it again though...

Yusa Buggies? StampedeProject.com gives them a whirl.
So you guys didn't know huh?
I bought two of the Yusa buggies, would have bought four if the wife wasn't on to me... Jeez for under $100 each including shipping, they will be good bashing buggies to convert to brushless or finish off a few nitro motors that have a couple hours of life left. The'll be a blast, even if the quality isn't top notch, but they should be excellent quality from what I have turned up. OK so this will probably generate a little heat on me and whatever...the truth hurts. http://www.rc-monster.com/forum/images/smilies/gasp.gif :gasp: So on top of talking to a few international contacts, I did a little research and it turns out there are only a couple oversees manufacturers out there that are building hobby level buggies. In fact 90+% of the buggies all roll out of two factories. I have more than a couple reliable sources that confirm that Yusa was/is the primary manufacturer of the majority of the buggies available. Still trying to find their website and contact info to talk to someone. Those units are then private branded or upgraded per manufacturers spec. Most of them roll out the door simply with a sticker, body, and tires change. :surprised: Surprised, it's a small small globalized economy folks. I talked with two different popular manufactures off the record and both said yes, in fact the Yusa was the same exact unit as their current offering and then proceed to tell me everyone else that was using the same chassis, I was shocked. Wheels, body and electrics, and a machined shock tower here and there may be slightly different though. Now of course there are different "grades" with more or less features, but there is a reason the vast majority of 1/8th scale buggy parts are interchangeable. The Ebay Yusa doesn't have the CF or machined shock towers, but I would bet that everything else is of agreeable quality. So what is difference in price for the $80 Yusa and some other chassis? Marketing - service, support, sponsorship, branding and all the other stuff adding to operational costs can double to triple the cost of a buggy then of course there is the distributor and retailer markup - ergo an $80 buggy roller chassis become a $399 price point when you finally see it. Everything has a price. I'll keep you posted with pics when they both arrive. |
hey, welcome to the forums. Do you race at the Plex? Some of my buds from DesMoines is there this weekend for the RC Pro Series race.
Anyway... I think you have been sucked in a little too deep on the "Yusa makes everyone's buggy" thing. I don't doubt that they might roll out some rebranded products for other companies. BUT.... there is no way that only a couple companies make most of the buggies. The guys saying that are feeding you B.S. If this were even remotely true... it would not be a big secret. People would know... we would know. btw, I know of one $400+ buggy that rolls out of the factory under $150... then it's sold to the distributors for $250 and $350 to the LHS... and about $400 or so to the consumer. Sounds like this yusa is simply selling direct and bypassing all the markups. |

I heard some pretty convincing statements from people who have not led me astray before. I think your last statement is correct and is the case with the ebay Yusa deal. As stated in the auction, these were overstocks of some sort. I am sure Suprasales got them for an even deeper discount and are just blowing them out. I am dropping a Novak HV 4.5R in one and a Hacker/Castle system in the other. Should be fun. |
Thanks for all the opinions guys. I had decided against it until stampedeprojects post, now I think Im considering it again.
Stampede, do you know of a replacement parts source here in the US? Or another buggy whose parts will be a direct fit? |

Yusa Buggy Pics
Hey guys,
Sorry to say it looks the Yusa's were gone by the time we were half way through this discussion, but here are the pics. Screaming deal. Well worth the bucks... http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...mall_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...mall_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...mall_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...mall_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...mall_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...mall_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...mall_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...mall_small.jpg |
All I can say is good luck, and hope it works well for you. The biggest problem I see with this car are replacement parts...
|
Yes replacement parts would be a big issue even thought it's cheap won't do you any good having it sit there broken.
|
You said it was a pretty good copy of the kyosho 777, do you think any parts would fit? I like the bronze anodized stuff.
I bought one last week, I should see it any day now (Im hoping). The parts look pretty beefy and Im not very hard on my trucks, so I shouldnt have to worry about replacement parts. If I break something, Ill just have to make the wrong parts fit like I have with all my other rc vehicles. Ill be dropping a 7xl on 4s in this thing, then later maybe going to my 5s pack and getting a 9xl. |
I'm not worried about parts...
First off I bought 2 of these, second I am sure I can find something to fit, third I drop $100 everytime I walk into a hobby shop - I feel like I am already money ahead.
Time will tell, I will dedicate an area on my site to the Yusa buggy for those that scored one this deal. I am working with RC-Monster to figure out which of their mounts will fit for the brushless conversions. |
Well i was one of people to buy one of these Yusa buggies and so far so good. I can tell you that the Kyosho spur gears to fit with a little modification and that the Kyosho motor mount that mike sells fits perfectly on this buggy with the exception of the brace on the top. It does not line up with all 4 screws but 2 of them do so you atleast have some support. I don't think it will be hard to make my own mount out of a small peice of aluminum. I mounted up a Feigao 10L with my electronics from my LSP and took it out for a test run and so far i am very pleased it seems pretty solid. The buggy to me seems to resemble a Kyosho inferno a lot so i don't think getting parts will be all that hard, if i'm wrong on this someone please correct me.

Looks great!
Man, as much as I love expensive RCs, I really love cheap ones.
Nice work, you beat me to it. Keep us posted on the build. Tony |
Heres my Yusa I just finished.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...s/S5000318.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...s/S5000319.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...s/S5000320.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...s/S5000322.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...s/S5000321.jpg So far it has a 7XL on 4S 5Ah Maxamps lipo, geared 18/46. I used the Kyosho motor mount that mike sells. The batteries are mounted with associated cups to a sheet of lexan that is bolted to the chassis. The body is a trinity wasp made for a mp7.5, and the tires are proline badlands on panther dish wheels. Ill let you guys know how it drives when I have a chance to do that. |
Very nice. I like that body.
|
Okay i have finished mine too. Well i will be changing one more thing. I am going to add a HB LSP center diff as soon as it is shipped to me. Let me know what you think.
    |

|
That is exactly why. I tried the center diff from my LSP and it worked a lot better. It's a pretty cheap fix.
|
So today I drove it for the first time, and I already broke it. I was driving around my backyard and a birdfeeder pole got in the way at about 30mph. It snapped the front inner suspension arm mount at one of its mounting holes. This a relatively simple part, so I cut a new one out of a sheet of aluminum. The one I broke is plastic, so hopefully this one will hold up if I repeat todays incident. I forgot to get pics of the wreckage, but heres some of the new arm mount going in, and a pic of my first mod to this buggy, the color matching offset hubs.
http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...s/S5000326.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...s/S5000327.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...s/S5000328.jpg I also have an LSP center diff in the mail. Thanks for that idea, Mike D. These have 50t spurs correct? Did you have to dremel the chassis at all to clear the extra diameter? |
No i did not have to, i am using the Kyosho 46 tooth plastic spur gear.
|
Mike_D, that body you're using, it's a Proline Crowd Pleaser for Hyper 8, with Racing Finish Metallic Blue, isn't it? I have that same (or VERY similar) body on my Hyper 8 with metallic blue fading to black.
|
Metalman, you have a very good eye (no pun intended). I went with that body just because i like the way it looks on the hyper 8 so i bought it and just cut it to fit the Yusa, it works. I always go with a solid color because i suck at painting and my bodies don't usually last me long enough to put in much of an effort to try and do a good paint job.

Guys, I am fianlly working on converting both the buggies I have over to brushless.
One will be a direct conversion that retains the braking servo and braking "feel" of the nitro units. The other will be a standard NTB conversion like you are doing. The hole point in me doing this was to determine if dumping the brakes from these conversions really makes that much difference in braking performance. I did a Losi 8 Buggy conversion which was featured at iHobby with dual 3s1P A123 packs ~20V, Castle MM, and Neumotor 1515/1Y, RC-Monster Plate, and my own home brewed battery holder. The feedback form some pro drivers was that the brakes were excellent so I am anxious to see the difference side by side. |
My MM gives me more than enough braking power to lock the wheels on any surface I drive it on, but the adjustable brake balance of the stock set-up would be nice.
|
Stampede,
I saw that Losi 8ight at the I-hobby expo with the A123 guys and thought it was awesome. I wish i could have seen it run. |
These appear pretty close for manuals and parts.

I too have purchased a Yusa product, but not the buggy but the 1/8 onroad/rally car chassis.I was nervous at first but feel better knowing that its not a complete blind purchase.I'm looking forward to that package arriving in the mail.Stampedeproject I've gone to your site and all I can say is...thanks for the shot in the arm.
|
So far i have not broken any parts but i still think the Yusa resembles the Kyosho Infernos more.
rcjmaxx, welcome to the Yusa club. Post pics when you can. |
Direct Conversion DONE! Now on to a standard conversion.
This conversion retains the brakes, uses dual 2s1p A123 packs and delivered 10 minutes of runtime. http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...mall_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...mall_small.jpg http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-Kyos...3370_small.jpg I'll keep doing updates posts here. http://stampedeproject.com/Yusa-1-8-...-buggy-rc.html Very fast no wheelies though. Love it. |
Heres some interesting links I found by googling yusa buggy.
http://www.rcoffroad.hu/leirasok/pro-enigma.php http://www.rctech.net/forum/attachme...8&d=1076059047 http://world.inhobby.com/index.php?o...roduct&id=2126 http://cn.104info.com.tw/gate/gb/biz...no=16517523000 Apparently the buggy is called a Protech Enigma in europe, and there is a pro version thats called the Enigma XR. Yusa sold this buggy as a RTR called the B240. It looks like this RTR was/ is only sold in southeast asia. There is an updated version (maxx style front pivot ball suspension, laydown steering servo) of the rollers we bought that is sold here as the RD logics SHO, and as a "Swift" under various brands (power racing, prp, nanda). So im betting we can use most of the rd logics rear suspension and chassis parts on our yusas. |
Nice work!
Based on that I found Manuals for the Protech Enigma XS & XR http://www.protech.be/Manuals/T59manual%20web.pdf http://www.protech.be/Manuals/T56manual%20web.pdf and this in the US - "Power Racing Katana" http://www.powerracingrc.com/katana.shtml And this. http://www.larrysperformancercs.com/...ABX&type=store and of course parts available in the US. http://www.larrysperformancercs.com/...gi?category=43 and RC-Boyz http://search.stores.ebay.com/RCBoyz...saselZ16028217 I suddenly feel good that if I break something that I can get parts. I am feeling like I got a better deal by the second. |
