FLM combo bulks/advice?
Will FLM combo bulks fit 1/8 scale gears. If not should I get the ones that do for my Neu/MGM/4s?
What size gears fit in the UE ultra lite diff? Is this better than the FLM combo for my set up? Lastly what gears fit the FLM hybrids? Would they be better for me? |
FLM combo bulks use standard sise maxx diffs, they just do away with the diffcase and combine it into the bulkheads.
1/8 scale diffs go into the UE Ultralite diff cases- they are the only dif case on the planet that takes 1/8 diffs- they can take the 6 or 8 spider UE diffs or the Hot bodies (HB) 1/8 diffs which are the same size & use the same bearings which are large than normal maxx ones. The FLM hybrid bulks take 1/8 scale diffs, either the UE 6 or 8 spider diffs or the HB 1/8 scale buggy/truggy diffs. Someone is testing to see if different 1/8 scale diffs will also fit, since they use the same design & bearings in theory, but that is still to be confirmed. If you are interested, there are a few sets of UE 6 spider Ultralite diffs/cases for sale on feebay at the moment, but prices will reach crazy levels by the end of the auction..... |

Correct me if I'm wrong, I know the UE diffs are 3.31 (43/13) but the HB are geared higher than that, something like 4.11 ??
Reason to point this out, I've seen some last minute wailing when HBs were received expecting same gear ratio only to realize they're geared higher which requires re-gearing elsewhere to maintain same fdr. Nothing like last minutes surprises! |

The different ratio is to make up for tire size difference between buggys and truggys. For a maxx you'll want the Non Pro ones, unless you need the higher ratio for some reason. mkrusedc, if our going to get the FLM bulks I'd go for the hybrids and 1/8th diffs as well, since with your setup maxx diffs will all ways be a weak point no matter what cases you use. They'll last a while for now, but if your going to make a fairly expensive purchase, like the FLM bulks IMO it would be worth spending a bit more and upgrade the diffs now as well. Plus now that you experienced power, chances are your going to want more of it in the future :yes:, 1/8th diffs will let you do that. You'll need a bigger pinion though, if the want to keep the FDR that you have now. Probably 2 teeth bigger, but use the calculator to check. |

Just got my hybrid bulks in the mail, very nice! Beautifully made and well worth the money. Can't wait to get my racebomb together.

Patrick, thanks for detailing which diffs are which, I haven't seen that explained before. I had seen in other forums more than once of the last minute surprise when these were run and the results were less than anticipated speed wise due to the increased truggy gearing.
Now I know which way to go when my modded stock diffs give up under my BL conversion. |
No worries. I could understand people's disappointment when they put their flash new expensive diffs in their car, and then it when they test it it's about 25% slower than they were expecting.:cry:

Whilst we're on the subject of diffs, I was bidding on a UE 6 spider kit, but some bloke called 'Procharged5.0' beat me to them..... git :lol:

I don't understand why the used one have gotten so expensive lately. They are still available new (6 & 8 spyder kits) on UE, so its not like they are going away. I bought 3 sets of 6 and 1 set of 8 spyder diffs over the past 2 yrs and never paid more than $150, all in excellent shape. Now I'm seeing buy it now prices that start at $200, whats up with that?
Paying for them assembled (used) cause don't think they can assemble them correctly? |

On the subject of UE parts selling for silly prices, I think alot of it is down to them usually being out of stock alot of the time (panic buying?), plus us UK truckers cant order directly from UE so we end up paying extra to get them else where. I definately would rather have UE diffs that I can just drop-in to my FLM bulks; I dont want to buy whole new hybrid bulks & 1/8 diffs and have to sell my existing FLm bulks- to mauch hassle & I know Im lazy.....
